Wow. Should be a dandy quarterfinal!

Kinda hard to make a pickum on the games huh?
So: https://www.mshsaa.org/Activities/DistrictWinners.aspx?alg=5&class=1&year=2018

Risco in OT
Dora huge

Lakeland Huge
St. Elizabeth by 15

Linn County by 2
Wellsville by 2 on buzzer beater

Winston by 19
Jefferson by 15 in fourth meeting after losing first three by margin of 7 combined.

Quarter round will be a lot of fun![/QUOTE

Thank you for this information. I enjoyed the game a lot - and so did my 84 year-old father who was friends with former South Iron coach Tom Beardsley.

Beardsley was the coach of South Iron, a conference opponent, in the 62-63 season, my freshman year in HS. He had one of the fiercest rebounders I have ever seen in future Iron County sheriff Ken Ruble. Glad I was not ready for varsity at that point!

Put your final four Picks here!

Dora v. Risco (I have Dora big)
Lakeland v. St. Elizabeth (Going to stick with St. Liz in a TIGHT one)
Wellsville v. Linn County (Linn County)
Jefferson v. Winston (Taking Winston in a classic)

In Springfield:
Dora wins big over St. Liz
Winston big over Linn County

3rd Place: St. Elizabeth over Linn County
Title Game: Winston over Dora

Final True top 10 (but not how it will be ranked)
1. Winston
2. Dora
3. Jefferson
4. Eminence
5. Mound City
6. St. Elizabeth
7. Lakeland
8. Risco
9. South Iron
10. Linn County

It makes it very hard for me to pick these games never having seen most of them. I don't think Dora will beat St. Elizabeth big, if at all. There is a big size difference between the two. Winston is the most mysterious of all for me, they are running up against Jefferson who is on quite a high after knocking off Mound City. My take is that if Dora can beat St. Elizabeth they will go all the way, but my lack of knowledge of northern teams is likely showing. We all have loyalty issues with picking against our local teams. All I can say is that this will be one of the most interesting finals 8 teams, then final 4, that I have seen in Class 1 for some time. Pretty sure I'm working a trade show the weekend of the finals, if not I'll be there to eyeball that action.

Let's not count Jefferson out just yet. I think it will be a daunting task for Winston to stop the Farnan. On the other hand, Lewis (Winston) may be the best player in the area. Two of the best coaches going head to head. Should be a classic!

My pick of Winston was as the underdog. Jefferson has more scorers. They also proved their defensive prowess holding down Mound City. If they can do to Lewis what they did to Osburn, could be a long night for Winston. Remains to be seen how Farnan 6'6" will affect the matchups for Winston.

I just tend to think Winston will be well prepared. The two schools are in MSHSAA for Jefferson (30th smallest school in the state) having 34 kids from Grades 9-11 and Winston (45th smallest) having 45 kids Grades 9-11. Gotta love small town hoops. Both towns will be fully turned out. And either one of them will be in the state title game if they advance. Stamp it.

Next year's Jefferson and South Nodaway coop would measure 84 students in this year's enrollment. Equal to same class and local rival North Andrew. If 6 classes happen, they may both move up? Who knows.

We will see if that size gives Dora trouble, but my sense is that if they gave up 70 to Lakeland, they could give up 90 to Dora. It will probably be a different pace of game though, although Dora won’t want that.

People that have not seen Dora play yet are in for a treat. They are on a different level than the rest of class 1. They were up 47 to 20 at half on Risco. #3 can flat score and the triplets are tenacious on D. Will be a fun watch

I agree with you that Dora is on a different level but it’s all about making shots in the BIG GYM atmosphere. If Dora doesn’t make shots it might be a tough night going against a big good post oriented team.

They work the ball pretty patiently to their big man and men. Should be a good game. Haney and the triplets are good, but I have underrated St. Elizabeth before and was wrong every time.

Jefferson will be the most disciplined team in Springfield. They can flat out guard, take quality shots on offense, and have a solid rebounder and rim protector in Farnan. I favor Dora, but Jefferson can keep it close. They shut down a comparable Osburn from Mound City to the Haney kid. And they are used to low possession games, which will frustrate Dora.

At the class 1 level no kid is comparable to the Haney kid.....and Dora hasn’t lost to a Missouri school this year.....and they don’t have luxury of playing schedule with a lot of other class 1 they play up most every night
