walnut grove did several cheap things during the game, even tripping a player. their coach's arrogance reflected in his players. Eminence's coach head and shoulders above Meinders. He just rode the wave of some really good players.... that could have been better

One of the best games I seen all weekend with the class 2 championship with van-far coming back from 12 down to overtake hayti in overtime a close second

First off, congrats to the Redwings! They had the toughest path to the title and got it done.

I think North Andrew belongs in the discussion. Had Walnut Grove shot their normal percentage from 3pt or FT line, or a myriad of other things, this thread might be different. Had North Andrew drawn Chamois in the semis, it would look different too.

All that being said, tremendous achievement by the Grove to get to the title game three years in a row. Those boys play hard and aren’t scared to face anyone.

Early favorites for the title next year (disclaimer, who knows districts, quarters or classifications which may send SJC to C2): Dora, Mound City, Eminence, Winston, St. Elizabeth, Lakeland, and Jefferson. Three teams are NWMO, just speaking from what I see most, so I’ll be anxious to hear who will rise in NEMO and SWMO. Maybe Dora will end up in SW and someone else will emerge from the boot heel.

It has been a really fun journey and discussion throughout the year. We over doubled the posts and had way more views! Looking forward to being even better next year!
I agree with your assessment of the favorites from NWMO. Mound City returns all but 1 player from a team that pushed NA in the Sectional.

Next year should be a riot. Eminence returns both Dyer boys, McBride, and hopefully Parish will be healed up from his ACL injury. Advance loses Vermillion, Walnut Grove loses Gilkey and Thomazin, and Dora basically brings the house back. There’s still a lot of competitive basketball to be played next year, and I can’t wait.

Haters going to continue to be Haters.

....... I've attend every Show-Me Showdown
from 1988 thru 2018 and from my seat and
IMHO the class 1 state champ game between
Eminence and Walnut Grove was one of the
best and very enjoyable to watch as a fan
with no horse in the race between two very
good and equal teams.
I'm amazed that communities with school
enrollments under 120 can produce such
good teams. The Eminence coach is a genuine
class guy...
Congrats to all final-4 perticipants ..!

Under 120? Those are huge schools.....lol. As a Chamois fan, I thought we competed well all things considered. Especially in the game vs North Andrew. Believe nerves showed in that first game, and Eminance did a great job taking my lil bro outta the game. Definitely some big, deep (for 1A), and talented teams across the board there this weekend.

It is hard to predict because of the change in using only 9-11 classes, but SJC had a big increase in enrollment so I would be shocked if they stay C1. Will still be involved in the discussion for other GRC teams, but hope we can get a lively C2 discussion going because both SJC and Milan have great shots next year and depending on how the brackets are drawn, they could potentially meet for the GRC title and then for the state title later in the year. (Yes I am getting way ahead of myself and I am very biased.)

What a year!! I was hoping Eminence would win this thing! Coach McBride and the boys are completely class acts! For Coach McBride, it has to be a dream come true to coach a state title with your boy on the team! What a great season, Class 1 ball is my favorite brand of ball in the state! May not be as many show time dunks or anything like that but boy it sure does mean something to those small towns. A state title means something to all that win one but us drive through towns sure do know it is something special! Congrats to the Red Wings and all the other teams competing! Can't wait until next year, can we say repeat?!!

For those who didn't have a chance to see much of the North Andrew Boys this year. Would have loved to have seen an Eminence/NA Matchup.

I hope we are in whichever one they are not :) I think the pipeline there is getting stronger... ;) ;)

Heaven help everyone in NWMO if they get some size!

agreed.....and I hesitate to mention my thoughts on next year.....because YDKM will try and get another 1000 looks out of this Class 1 post...but Jefferson and Mound City posters are probably watching SJC classification pretty close....1 of those 3 schools will be favored to feed into one side of the QF game (unless things have rotated too much)....the other side? who knows....SW, Orrick, Winston, Mercer...too early to tell....need to see those classifications and district groupings...going to be a while on that info

Another one to follow will be if Dora goes C2, or if Dora and Eminence will both be in SE quarter next year...could be a lot of significant changes!
