THE Class 1 Hoops Thread 2018-19

Haney is the real deal......but the triplets are no slackers they all can score.....so it’s not like he don’t have help.....you double Haney the triplets will make you pay

Dora has played against big men, the question is has any of the rest of the teams played against a team like Dora. I know no northern team has, they play a different style up north, pace and speed will be different.

I'll wait till they play the game before conceding to Dora. They play the games on the court, not on forums. I'd say they will get a very good game played against them by a lot bigger team that won't get in a horse contest with them. St. E will take the ball inside every time they come down the floor. If Dora can pressure their guards enough that they can't make the entry pass to the big guy then they will win. If they can't stop the entry passes they are going to be SOL because that big dude is pretty good around the hoop.

St Elizabeth and Dora do have one common opponent, even though it was first game of year for St. E. Dora beat Licking by 2 in the infamous free throw game and Licking beat St. E by 22. Obviously anybody left playing has a chance at this point but I would be surprised if St. E has seen defensive pressure like Dora will bring.

St.Elizabeth has only played 3c1 schools all year until districts. They have seen lots of different dfences all yr. Class 2,3,5 schools are just as big as St.E. and some of them faster. They have proved they can play with just about anyone. Dora beat St.E. boys when they were 8th graders and the St.E. boys never have forgot it. I think this will be an exiting game.

If St.E. were to play Licking 1/2 way through the season I think its a different game.

At the class 1 level no kid is comparable to the Haney kid.....and Dora hasn’t lost to a Missouri school this year.....and they don’t have luxury of playing schedule with a lot of other class 1 they play up most every night
I disagree. The Wakefield kid from South Iron is comparable to Haney, and in my opinion, a better player all around. I’d take him over Haney any day of the week.

You might want to watch a little bit of this to see what the Dora buzz is about.
We all know the Haney kid is good.real good but has Dora had to face anyone as big as St.E.? St.E proved it could handle a press when Lakeland gave them lots of free points. Looks like Dora scores off its press aswell. I still think its going to be a good game.

Well the Nicholson and Swan kid from Licking go 6’7 and 6’6 respectively both are very good around the rim.....Doniphan has a 6’6 big who has a good move and finishes well inside.....Mountain Grove has the Massey who is 6’6 and average a double double.....Thayer has Stone and Spencer who both 6’5 who can score at will.....and we all know what McBride at Eminence can do.....so it’s not uncommon for them to give up 5-7 inches to big inside player.....but your very taken and as for the guy who meantioned the kid from south iron what kind of numbers does he put up again?

Lakeland schedule was class 1 loaded and as for St Elizabeth I seen a few class 3 on there and really the only loses that stand out as you got beat by a better team was licking and Strafford.....

They've played 9 class 3 schools and a class 5 school

I’ve seen Dora play 5 times, I’ve seen Wakefield play probably 50 games. Wakefield doesn’t avg as many points per game because he has more good pieces around him. But he’s a better defender, and it’s not even up for debate. He’s a better passer, and I think he’s just as good of a shooter. Numbers aren’t everything. You have to consider how they play with the team around them. I just hope Wakefield is fully healthy next year after breaking his hand this year. South Iron almost beat Farmington with basically a team made of sophomores and freshmen. They’ll be tough next year.

No seniors that play on St. E, 4 sophomores on Dora squad, and South Iron returning everybody makes for a lot of off season speculation!

Lakeland got beat 22 by Licking. That game will get ugly early.

I think you are talking about St. Elizabeth losing early in the season to Licking, not Lakeland. I'm glad you are so sure about that, I might take your word on it and get some money down! :)

If Wakefield is better then Haney and he has more good pieces around him then Haney does, why is South Iron losing to Eminence and Risco and Dora beat Risco by 35? I haven't seen Wakefield play except a little on video so this is not meant to be disparaging of him as a player, I just don't understand how it works. You can argue that he is better but team is not but not that his numbers are less because pieces around him are better if South Iron is losing to people Dora beat. I do realize he was hurt part of the year.

my bad you are right, but I will take Dora against St. Elizabeth. Dinner would be great.
When St. E played Licking, it was their first game. The big guy Struemph had just been cleared to play (had labrum surgery) and the other big, B Heckemeyer was out with a foot injury. I don't think they'd lose by 22 if they played Licking today.

Dora is very talented, but if St. E plays like they have been, it should be a great game

I was once an administrator at Dora, they had a good team back then, but not like this. This is storybook stuff. However, I agree with you Ctownbball. They (St. E) have improved greatly as the season went on just because of what you stated. If arguably their best player hadn't moved to Iberia they would be even better. I'll go out on a limb and say that I expect a great game between two young and very different teams.

I've seen this said a few times on here (I think). When Voss (great kid btw) played with St. E you could pick your poison with about 2-4 players going off for 20 that night. When they were together they all brought something unique to the team. I couldn't pick the best or worst. I'm sure it has helped his individual game going to Iberia. It's nice to think about how good this St. E team could be with him on it, but he isn't, so best of luck to him.

I think if St. E can protect the ball and work the bigs, they'll have a chance. If not, Dora will do what Dora has done all year.

No way. The Haney kid is sitting on multiple D-1 offers. His numbers are better. Head to head, Haney is better than Wakefield.

St.E. c3 games Licking(first game of yr)
Centraila,Southern Boone,Linn,South Callaway,Fatima,Strafford,Eldon,and c5 Battle. The rest are c2 except chamois,jamestown and tuscumbia.
St.E will hold thier own. That is my opnion.

I wasn’t arguing with you on the south iron kid I ain’t seen them play this year was just curious about his numbers cause if he got good bunch around him then he should be better assist man avg wise

Yeah I know how to count.....and yeah those loses to Strafford and licking are quality loses and I missed the battle game.....but I stand corrected southern Boone is decent team

Not in any way, shape, or form trying to run down this Haney player. I have no skin in the game but have followed class 1 ball for 20 years. This tape may not be a representative example, and I didn't watch it all, I admit, but a skinny sophomore white kid that loses the ball and misses free throws are pretty common .

If he is good enough for multiple D1 offers, I would assume I would be intrigued enough to watch more than the first qtr. I also would probably be able to pick him out without the announcer.

Not trying to be a smartaleck, honest, just not seeing it.

I watched the whole thing. #3 Haney is a fine player, but 20 is not bad. Looked like 25 Masters had a good night. The whole bunch is quick and play good help defense, collapsing quick on the ball. I don't think their press is anything special, but the overall defense is very good. They are a good Class 1 team, no doubt about it. So is St. Elizabeth. Good game on the way for Friday!
