I'll take a stab at it

1. Walnut Grove
2. Eminence
3. Advance
4. Dora
5. North Andrew
6. Jamestown
7. Winston
8. SJC
9. Pattonsburg
10. Worth County

Or somethin like that. Maybe it'll spark up more discussion at least.

I like your synopsis. Advance plays some serious competition. Bubba and those boys will be ready come postseason time. The Grove is in the same boat, tough schedule and they are the champs until proven otherwise. Eminence is playing really good ball right now. The South Iron Panthers may have figured some things out here in the SEMO area, they beat a Festus ball club and took home a 5th place finish in the Central Christmas Tourney. Class 1 basketball sure is fun!

Unfortunately, I was not able to attend the SJC game today since I am visiting family this weekend. However, the game brought back memories of when Brandon Shanks hit the game winning shot at the buzzer in 2012 to send SJC to the final four. Malik Tucker hit a 35 foot shot at the buzzer to send the game into overtime and SJC won it in overtime over St. Michael. SJC is now 10-2 with their only losses to Mid Buchanan and LeBlond and victories over Worth County, Lathrop and St. Michael. They have a crucial stretch next week when they go to Pattonsburg before hosting Stanberry. If they can come out of that unscathed, then they should be playing for the GRC West title against North Andrew on January 30.

Walnut grove again missing due to all of their losses, but no way they aren’t the favorite in their quarter still. Maybe some of you swmo-ers know of legitimate challengers to Walnut Grove?

So, most of the losses over the break were to bigger schools or other ranked C1s..I guess I’ll go ahead and give my top 10:

1. Advance
2. North Andrew
3. Walnut Grove
4. Jamestown
5. Eminence
6. Dora
7. St. Joseph Christian
8. Worth County
9. Winston
10. Meadville

There are plenty of good arguments against some of my picks, but I kept Advance on top because they got beat by powerhouses in C2 and C3 recently (and still own a 17 point win over Eminence, which is probably the biggest win of top 10’s over another ranked team)

North Andrew hasn’t lost, but their schedule isn’t very strong to this point.

Walnut grove is headed to Springfield as far as I’m concerned until someone beats them in C1.

Jamestown has size, speed, and a playing style that forces uptempo and erratic play...no one in their area matches that style of play in C1 that I’m aware of.

Eminence might be my biggest under rated...only reason I have them down there is because the other teams are still the dominant teams in their area and they had the big loss over Advance to open the year. However, they are playing really well right now.

Dora is playing well and has hung right with Eminence, they just don’t have the size to match eminence right now. This Luna triplets and the Haney kid are excellent freshman players.

St. Joseph Christian makes their debut in the rankings. They have lost to c2 ranked Mid Buchanan and C3 Bishop Leblond, but have also beaten some bigger schools. They are above Worth County due to their head to head win, but Worth County was down 2 starters. As I said before, SJC plays Pattonsburg right out of break, so that will provide more clarity too.

Worth County has been pretty up and down, and haven’t played nearly as well after suffering injuries to three of their starters from the opening game. 2 of them will be back after break, including all state 6’4” shooting guard Cade Allee who hasn’t played since game 3 of the year.

Winston dropped a close game to Pattonsburg (who should get some top 10 looks) by 32-31. Still, with the loss at Pattonsburg, Winston has proven they belong to this point with some pretty quality wins to start the season. We will see if that young team will gel and get on a run into their conference season.

Meadville is #10 and the second best team in NEMO quarter to this point in my book. Linn County, Chamois, Glasgow (rebuilt final four team from last year), Slater, and St. Elizabeth are also to be watched in a fairly wide open NEMO after Jamestown.

Regional Power Rankings:

NEMO:
1. Jamestown
2. Meadville
3. Linn County
4. St. Elizabeth
5. Chamois

SEMO:
1. Advance
2. Eminence
3. Dora

Not sure after that

NWMO:
1. North Andrew
2. St. Joseph Christian
3. Worth County
4. Winston
5. Jefferson (their record on maxpreps is incorrect)

SWMO:
1. Walnut Grove
2. Lakeland
3. Greenfield
Not sure after that

Regional power rankings:
1. SEMO
2. NWMO
3. SWMO
4. NEMO

Winston will get on a roll because of the conference they play in. The HDC isn’t the strongest conference out there. Haha I saw Christian over the weekend at the LeBlond Tournament and they impressed me. Knocking off a pretty good St. Michael’s team is a good win for them. I like them a lot right now.

How do you See SJC matching up with Pattonsburg and North Andrew?

If the playoffs were held tomorrow, my district and bracket picks:

Semo
District 1: SCC
District 2: Advance
District 3: Eminence
District 4: Dora

Swmo:
District 5: Walnut Grove (Greenfield as #2 seed)
District 6: Drexel
District 7: Lakeland (or halfway...50/50)
District 8: Leeton

NEMO:
District 9: Jamestown (good district here with Glasgow and St. Elizabeth looming)
District 10: Chamois
District 11: Linn County
District 12: Meadville (with Brunswick and Slater as legitimate challengers)

NWMO:
District 13: Winston
District 14: Worth County (but don’t sleep on Pattonsburg or potentially Mercer)
District 15: North Andrew (St. Joseph Christian as a formidable 2 seed)
District 16: Jefferson (Mound City has potential, but haven’t realized it yet)

Sectionals:
Advance over SCC
Eminence over Dora

Walnut Grove over Drexel
Lakeland over Leeton

Jamestown over Chamois
Meadville over Linn County

Worth County over Winston
North Andrew over Jefferson

Quarterfinals:
Advance over Eminence in a classic
Walnut Grove cruises over Lakeland
Jamestown over Meadville in a classic
North Andrew over Worth County in a classic

Semi-Final:
Advance over Jamestown by a decent Margin
Flip a coin on North Andrew/Walnut Grove...give edge to defending champs and the state 3pt record holder

3rd place: North Andrew over Jamestown
Final: Advance gets redemption in Title Game rematch.

Sleeper teams to break my bracket: St. Elizabeth in NE, Pattonsburg or SJC in NW, none to speak of in SW or SE other than teams that will win districts already

I think they should be able to handle Pattonsburg this week. But it appears Pattonsburg can play some defense so it will be interesting. North Andrew will be tough. They are very good and have experience in big games. But that will be a fun game to watch in a few weeks. Only time will tell if they can beat them.

Any other teams to fill out my top 5 in the region? Favorites in the other districts in that quarter?
It’s tough to say because you have Eminence and Dora in the SEMO Quarter. Local media in SWMO covers the likes of them more so than Lakeland. Sheldon from my understanding is playing competitive basketball.

Drexel is 7-3. SWMO has one really competitive district. The Lakeland district may have Weaubleau and Halfway, but I doubt they will make a run outside of winning their district

Pattonsburg has been able to match up with SJC well. They defeated SJC last year and outscored them in the jamboree earlier this year. Both teams are playing really well right now, so it will be interesting. I think SJC will come out on top, but it will be close.

I think SJC and North Andrew will be for the division championship. It should be a packed house and a good game. My pick is North Andrew, but SJC knows North Andrew very well having played against the same players. SJC's core players are mostly new to North Andrew so they will have to rely on scouting.

Pattonsburg got out to a big lead and was up 15-3, but SJC battled back to tie at 19 at half. It was back and forth the entire half before Pattonsburg hit two free throws with 5.7 sec left to win 42-41.

Pattonsburg had the best half court defense that I have seen SJC play this year. SJC got most of their points in transition, 3 pointers or out-of-bounds plays. They had a very difficult time penetrating the Pattonsburg defense.

I don't know if Pattonsburg's defense is good enough to beat North Andrew, but I was very impressed with them. They are very solid fundamentally. They play good defense, are patient on offense and rebound well. IMO SJC played a pretty good game other than the first quarter. They just didn't make the plays down the stretch to win.

It sounds like NA will have a legitimate test then...and I also saw Worth county Lost to C2 Stanberry. They seem to be struggling at the moment. I still think they will find their stride later in the season and be a really tough out.

Greenfield lost to a good C3 Stockton team (9-3) 59-49. Had it had 5 with 2 minutes to go. First game in 2 1/2 weeks. Play in the Golden City Tournament next week.

they going to see anyone c1 that will challenge them? What seed did they get?
Most Teams that will challenge them in that tournament are C2. They got the 2 seed behind Lockwood. Greenfield got the 3 seed in the Stockton Tournament behind Stockton and Harrisonville. Most of their schedule is C2 or higher for the rest of the year. They only face one C1 the rest of the way on their schedule, besides opening with C1 Everton in the GC Tournament.

Yes. I think Worth County still has players out. But they had a tough schedule to start Conference. Two big games on Friday. Pattonsburg vs. North Andrew and SJC vs. Stanberry.

Is there any chance that Everton upsets Greenfield in the opening round?

I'm going to say no, but it is high school basketball. Greenfield beat them their first match up without their big by 17. Greenfield is playing much better than they were at the beginning of the season

Are there any good games for our top 15 teams in the state that we need to keep watch on? Thanks Hoops for the GRC update and "just" for the greenfield update. Appreciate it!

Any new insight to the potential Eminence and Advance matchup?

Jamestown is playing in Stover tourney and if they get by semi tonight will play either Dixon or Stover in championship Saturday.

New Poll Today...should provide some good conversations

Class 1

1 Advance 8-3

2 North Andrew 8-0

3 Walnut Grove 6-6

5 Dora 9-3

6 Winston 9-1

7 Jamestown 10-1

7 Eminence 9-1

8 Meadville 9-1

9 Lakeland 9-1

10 Halfway 7-0

I have heard no one overly complimentary about halfway or Lakeland, but they have good records. Lakeland’s loss is to a decent, but not great Green Ridge team who is 7-3 with a loss to Stover which, if they had won, could have ended up playing Jamestown at the Stover Tournament. I see Green Ridge plays class 2 #1 Sacred Heart Next week too. Halfway’s 1 reported loss is to a sub .500 Hurley team.

Eminence beat Dora head to head and have a better record, that one is a straight up miss. No other way to explain that.

Pattonsburg has a great argument to be in the top 10, but I think Winston still has a greater chance of winning a district Title. If they beat North Andrew, no one will be doubting Pattonsburg anymore.

Jamestown should still be in the top 4. They are a really solid team and odds on to be in the final four.

I think the top 3 are where I would put them. I have heard Thomazin had 11 3’s in walnut grove’s last game. He isn’t slowing down any. And the kid is going to go be a division 1 pitcher. Crazy athlete.

I wish we could get another showdown between advance and Dora or eminence.

We potentially have a Worth County (district 14 favorite) or Jefferson (district 16 favorite) matchup against #2 North Andrew next week in the Stanberry tournament as well.

Greenfield would help themselves possibly by updating maxpreps just to market themselves a little more. I have not seen them, but have a feeling they are more worthy than the other two from down there (and maybe I’m way off). Although a .500 record is hard to rank unless you are the defending champion playing all c2’s-c4s.

I still think St. Elizabeth has a chance to make a run too among the not usually mentioned on here. Meadville is solid as always and will be a tough out.

Mercer is a potential sleeper in Disrict 14 as well. Chamois is my sleeper down in central Missouri. I also think we will have some surprises in the swmo districts based on records and no one really separating themselves.

It is also interesting this time of year teams are battling illness, injury from all the games, possible ineligibility..you never know if you will be full force any given night. Should be a fun stretch run though. I’ll be back with maxpreps poll tomorrow if someone else doesn’t beat me to it.

Also a very likely Winston-Pattonsburg rematch in the Osborn tournament next week as well.

Another possible big game is Linn County vs. Milan in the Milan tournament. Milan is the #1 seed and #4 in C2 right now. Linn County is the #2 seed.
