2017-18 Class 1 Hoops Thread

Who will win the Rematch?

  • Total voters
    9
  • Poll closed .
Things I have learned of Semo: Scott County Central lost a ton of players, (so probably ranked too high for now) and Eminence keeps everyone pretty much and has a 6'8" sophomore. Advance will still be good but slightly undersized.

In central mo: Glasgow going run and gun after losing 3 starters and losing a lot of size.

St. Elizabeth has had a tough start to their season. Lost by 5 against Crocker in the Show-Me/Frisco Shootout in Waynesville, then lose to #8 Jamestown. Looks like Jamestown was able to corral the Struemph kid better than Crocker was. Of course, the two of them get back together in a couple weeks in St. Elizabeth, so that will be interesting.

Advance is back.......

They jump back in the hunt. Good for them! I really thought wuebker and Mayo being gone would have really set them back. Apparently not. That leaves Risco. Have to wait and see what scc does

Dora 75- Risco 59.

Well my top 10 went on its head.

Based after one game (lol) I'd go:

1. Walnut Grove
2. Advance
3. North Andrew
4. Greenfield
5. Worth County
6. Dora
7. Jamestown
8. Meadville
9. Eminence
10. SCC?

Is the limit on games still:

16 regular and 3 tournaments;
18 regular and 2 tournaments; or
20 regular and 1 tournament?

What
Class 1 Lesterville defeated Class 1 South Iron 70-45 to win the 91st Arcadia Valley Thanksgiving Tournament. Lesterville defeated Bismarck and West County on the way to the championship. These were the only two class 1s in the field.
what does Lesterville have? Should they be considered with Advance, Dora, Eminence, and SCC?

I wouldn’t put Lesterville up that high just yet. They start 1 junior and then 4 sophomores. The first kid off the bench is a sophomore and just as good as a couple of the starters. Last year they only won 5 games with starting 4 freshman and 1 sophomore. After last night’s win they are now 4-0. Point guard is quick and great ball handler. They have a forward that I think is averaging a double/double so far in point and rebounds. These kids have put in a lot of time and the coach has the program heading in the right direction. He does a great job with the talent he has and knows how to use them. In the AV tourney they were up on West County by 15 and then beat South Iron by 25 in the finals. They will take some beatings this year but will only make them better come districts. Only have 2 seniors I think on the team. 1 quick cat guard and then a 6’3 forward. Major minutes go to all the sophomores. They looked pretty good at the AV tourney. Really wish they played Eminence this year to get a better look at how they stack up.

Saw St. Joseph Christian last night. My conclusion is that they have a lot of potential, but it is hard to tell due to competition. Thy have 5 players (including 3 starters) in their main rotation that were not on the team (Varsity or JV) at the end of last year. The best players are Tucker who is a junior and Jeter who is a freshman. Maggart looked improved also. I think they will be a better outside shooting team than last year. I am not sure they have enough to challenge North Andrew, but they have the talent for an upper division finish in the GRC West which is absolutely loaded this year.

Being a private school has it's perks.

Mid-Mo update. #8 Jamestown has gotten off to a great start going 5-0. That included win over St. Elizabeth, 4 wins this past week , winning the Tipton Tourney beating strong class 2 team New Bloomfield (side note was told 1st time winning Tipton tourney in over 20 years!). Followed that up w/ a 8 am win @ Norm Stewart Classic over Laquey, having them down 37-9 @ halftime. #10 St. Elizabeth after opening loss to Jamestown went to Eugene tourney. The come away with 3rd place, beating Osage in 3rd place game. They also had short turnaround playing in Norm Stewart Classic beating Chillohowee. These teams will inevitably meet again in District play in couple of months.

Chamois is solid, and will continue to improve on the year. The play a tough and physical brand of defense. Plus the Brandt kid is an Offensive stud, who can score inside and outside.

As a NW BB fan.....I would tweek a little....North Andrew well deserving a top 3 spot. Worth County certainly a 4-6 type of team.....and could rise as they return a couple missing players. Winston is rebuilding yet still having some success but #5 is a little high for them this early.. Understandable as the pollsters have seen them in the polls pretty much non-stop for 4 years but they are still a question mark.

Other NW teams to watch...Jefferson, Mound City, SJ Christian and ?

Dont we have a big NE rematch this week....Meadville and Linn County?

Since we have a post about NWMO....

SWMO: Will anyone their own size beat Walnut Grove? Not sure about Greenfield's record..we have a poster from down there that could give us a report BDGT? where are you?

SEMO: Advance, Dora, Eminence are three possibilities, but Advance sent a message with the 17 point win over Eminence...

NEMO: Jamestown, St. Elizabeth, Meadville, Linn County seem to be the area leaders with Jamestown and Linn county as two favorites

I think Pattonsburg is a sleeper. I see them pulling off some upsets this year.

I might be a bit biased as I have a son that plays on the team but I will say this Greenfield has a good team and it will be a good game but I think WG will come out on top. WG has a very tough schedule this year playing majority of Class 2,3 and 4 teams so they’re going to have some losses as you can already see. But to answer your question I don’t see anyone there size beating them in SW this year but you know that’s why we play the games anyone can beat anyone on a given night.

Meanwhile in NWMO:

In a preview of a possible District 16 title last night, Jefferson pulls out an impressive win over Mound City 58-42.

North Andrew and Winston got solid wins to stay undefeated.

Worth County was toe to toe with Class 3 Maryville for three quarters before falling 56-36.

#3 North Andrew is at #6 Worth County on Tuesday. Both teams have returned almost everyone from last year in a rematch of the quarterfinal. Anyone have any predictions or insight into that one? Nw bball?

#4 Greenfield is 2-3... story: http://www.ozarkssportszone.com/2017/12/07/big-second-half-sends-marionville-past-greenfield/

The Eminence/Salem score you posted was a girls game. The boys beat Clever 82-68 at The Ozark Mountain Shootout.

And then SJC plays at Worth County next Friday. A big week for Worth County next week. If they can win both, they will almost wrap up the #1 seed in the West. But that is a HUGE IF. They lost to both last year.
