It looks like Couch plays Dora soon, and Couch looks good by the numbers due to difficulty of schedule. Could be a big time matchup. maxpreps was pretty accurate last year. We will see about this year.

Any thoughts? I think some of the maxpreps records and things are off to this point.

They have been without one of their best players during that stretch of four losses.

Rogersville, a good Class 4 team.
Mt Vernon, a good Class 3 team
Class 2 contenders Hartville and Crane.

They beat Crane by 16 when healthy. I will go out on a limb and say there aren’t very many Class 1 teams playing that caliber schedule. If healthy they’ll be a contender in March.

I’m probably going to go see them play in January when they come up to St. Joe to play Mid Buchanan. I’m intrigued by the matchup so I may see for myself the kind of team they are.

wow...the rematch was flipped. Did you see the game then? Meadville improving? Or just acclimated/adjusted to Linn County from first game?

Meadville is young and they have not established the leadership as of yet to reach their full potential. Linn County and Meadville are pretty evenly matched in the talent department, in my opinion.
Meadville led the whole game in the NW tournament, then some fantastic shot's falling for Linn Co. gave them the lead late. Last night Meadville had a few more of those shots fall.

Both teams fun to watch.

WG played in a heavy Class 3-4 tournament (Clever) to begin the year. Beat a good Verona (C2) team by 15. They have played one of the toughest schedules for a class 1 in the state. Should probably still be ranked #1 IMO. Greenfield is 4-4 and not 100 percent healthy either, and I know they are not Top 10. They have losses to a solid Spokane team, Cassville (C4), Marionville (don't ever count out Ted Young) and to Verona with limited playing time by their big. Don't sleep on either team.

Upcoming C1 matchups of significance: Anyone want to try to do some picks? (I'll do mine below the schedule)

Thursday:
Walnut Grove @ Wheatland

Friday:
Bloomfield @ Advance
Jasper @ Greenfield
Dora @ Cabool
St. Joseph Christian @ Worth County-- two of the top teams in GRC West
Blue Eye @ Eminence-- Decent matchups considering scores and records
King City @ North Andrew
Meadville @ Brashear
Linn County @ Brunswick
Gilman City @ Winston
Lakeland v. Green Ridge @Sedalia -- Potentially a good game based on scores of common opponents
Jefferson @ South Nodaway
Eugene @ St. Elizabeth (Eugene is ranked c2)
Lesterville @ Zalma
Leeton @ Ballard

Saturday:
New Bloomfield vs. Jamestown (rematch of Tipton Tourney Final)

My Picks:
1. Walnut Grove- might be close without Gilkey
2. Greenfield (but have no idea)
3. Dora- young guns roll
4. Worth county regroups in a close one at home to separate to the top end of the GRC West
5. Eminence...seem to be playing at a higher level with their "Big Country" getting lots of buckets
6. North Andrew looks to cruise over down the road rival
7. Meadville riding that momentum from big win over Linn Co
8. Linn County - based on scores should be a solid win, but brunswick is a hard place to go play
9. Winston - HDC champs roll
10. Lakeland - upstart could be in for a game based on scores
11. Jefferson - should be an easy one
12. Eugene - c2 powerhouse rolls
13. Lesterville - no idea, just going with better record
14. Leeton - Should roll, but not sure
15. New Bloomfield gets revenge in this one over the secret mullett power of Jamestown's 1-2-2 press and trap

Walnut Grove w
Anyone have the Walnut Grove boy's score from last night? I also see Halfway is 5-0 down there...will they challenge Walnut Grove without Gilkey??
I doubt it. Their schedule is not overly impressive. Most wins are against average to below average class 1 teams. Gilkey is the needed component against difficult teams because he plays hard, defends and rebounds. WG has the shooters to beat most small schools.

I thought Maxpreps was calculated by strength of schedule.

Which number is the strength of schedule? Cause Walnut Grove strength of schedule should be one of the highest in Class 1 if not the highest.
The fact the Golden City is above WG in this shows that no credibility should be taken into the Max Preps rankings. Golden City will be competitive, but will be the bottom of their conference and probably finish around .500.

Exactly what I was thinking but I didn’t want to say it.

I would like to see how most of the teams in the top 25 compete against the schedule WG has played. I don't know if there would be any sitting at a better record than WG, or even one that would have a victory. Unbelievably tough schedule for a good Class 3 team, let alone a Class 1 team.

That being said, I am a SWMO guy that has not seen much played outside the area, but just going by the traditional type of basketball played in the area.

To answer your question, it is the last number.

For example, St. Elizabeth has a 5-3 record against a sos of 4.7 whereas WG has a 2-4 record against a sos of 3.1

My eagles have a 6-1 record against a sos of -4.1 so basically we beat bad teams and you lose to good one's

Make sense o_O

And it just gets tougher as they play Class 4 Carthage tomorrow at Webb City. Play hard and good things will come!!!!!

Well it makes sense but doesn’t make sense. It doesn’t matter in the long run we play the tough schedule to prepare for the playoffs. So good luck to you and your eagles this year.

St. Joseph Christian defeats Worth County 39-24. They held Worth County to 26 points under their season average. Right now, SJCS is holding opponents to 34.9 points per game so far.

Right now, I think that SJCS is looking at a possible 6-0 conference record going into the final game against North Andrew. They definitely are favored in the next 4 conference games against Pattonsburg, Stanberry, Braymer and Albany.

What else do we have for scores across the state?

I'm seeing Advance, Greenfield, Lesterville, North Andrew, and Winston get wins...St. Elizabeth falls to Eugene..waiting to hear on the others

Any Big Games this week or over break? I know we have some holiday tournaments and shootouts... How would you all rank the top 10?

I'll start:

I'd go:

1. Advance - Keep on rolling after that early loss to Oran
2. North Andrew - Got win over previous #10 Worth County this week
3. Walnut Grove -yes, with 5 losses, as was stated before..tough tough schedule and down a great player for a while (any idea when they will come back?
4. Eminence - playing really well right now, i'd like to see an advance rematch
5. Winston - 9-0 just keeps rolling
6. Jamestown - Took first loss to quality C2 program
7. Dora - Another program playing really well against other C1 teams
8. Meadville - Got the win over Linn Co this week
9. Greenfield - second best in SWMO? battling injuries
10. Worth county- three losses in three games, but battling injuries as well

Worth Noting: Linn County, Lakeland, Jefferson, Lesterville

Should have a new Maxpreps ranking and Coaches Poll out tomorrow if they stick to the 1 weeks turnaround on Coaches poll after 12/12 release

I don't know Greenfield is quite deserving of being back in the top 10, but they are starting to get healthy and beginning to find identity a little more. Still don't know if any of these teams would want to face WG, even without Gilkey. Still have three very good shooters, but are not the same defensive team without Gilkey.
