Maybe he'll heal faster. I guess he should be back in time for district play.Out that long doesn’t bode well. They are supposed to play Eminence 2/5

I forgot I was told today that the young Ellington girls beat SI girls also.I was told today by a ref that was calling some games in the BRL Tourney that SI's leading scorer has been out for a couple of weeks and will be out 3 or 4 more weeks with hand/finger issue.

So I'm late to the party, but I have insight on how South Iron lost to Ellington. Brock Wakefield, the stud sophomore for the SI Panthers, broke his hand in the game before they played Ellington. He'll be out until around time for Districts.
Thanks for that info. I had heard they’d lost a key player. Just hadn’t heard who or what.So I'm late to the party, but I have insight on how South Iron lost to Ellington. Hopefully he plays tomorrow.Mound City continues undefeated start with a 62-56 win over Class 2 Mid Buchanan tonight. With that win, they will now face off with Jefferson to decide the winner of the North Platte Tournament. This is matchup 3 of a possible 4 to be played this year. MC is 2-0 against them with 2 close wins in each of the other 2. MC also won tonight with out one of there 5 starters out with an illness tonight.
They looked darn good still without him last night. Seeing them for the first time last night, I was impressed. They are so young. They will be a team to watch in the coming years. The Osbern kid is a special player and he’s only a freshman. Wish I could attend the matchup vs Jefferson todayHopefully he plays tomorrow.
I’m not 100% convinced that Mound City is the team to beat in NWMO. They should move top 3 in state polls this week in my opinion. As of right now, Mound City is my pick to come out of NWMO and represent them at the Final 4. I just don’t think Winston will be able to take them down, unless MC gets nipped by Jefferson on 4th attempt. For the third time this year, Jefferson got out to an early lead, but Mound City was able to come back again and win 54-51. They remain undefeated. Round 4 will most likely be on February 26 in the state sectional in St. Joe.
Lakeland over Weaubleau by 29 for Osceola Tournament championship
Watching Mound City the other night, I realized that they have 7 guys that on any night can score 15. They had 3 guys get onto NP All tournament team. And they can defend very well. Not saying they can’t/won’t lose. But they seem to be ready to take that step forward and get themselves to state. Thanks for updates, guys. I think it’s still SEMO and NWMO’s world this year. Semo teams having the edge. Dora doesn’t appear to be letting up at all, Eminence is very experienced with two really nice players, and South Iron is a bit of a wild card.
In regards to Mound City’s position, I would agree they are the front runner. I would also agree that doesn’t mean they are a sure thing. It’s one thing to play in a title game at a tourney, but another all together to play with the possibility of your season ending. Winston and Jefferson are both solid, disciplined teams that will be consistent. While Winston doesn’t have the strength of schedule of Mound City or Jefferson, do not sleep on their ability to hold people down defensively. Also, I’d be shocked if you could ever hold Jacob lewis under 25 points in a game. I could see Winston starting hot and resorting to a strategy to stymie Mound City too. Mound City wants to play uptemp, and Winston and Jefferson are both disciplined enough to limit possessions.
Somewhere in the bushes lies North Andrew, Wellington Napoleon, and Mercer as well. North Andrew has hung with Jefferson at times, has the toughest schedule of all the teams down the stretch, and has no pressure and nothing to lose. Given the right night, they could pose a threat, just not super high probability at this time.
The upcoming games where Winston and Mercer face off will give some clarity possibly to the strength of those two teams.
All that being said. If Mound City gets hot or realizes how good they are (even though they are 20-0), no one can beat them. I’d sure hate to play Jefferson a 4th time though after winning 3 extremely close games.
Also factor in a sectional and quarterfinal matchup on a longer floor in St. Joe, which I’m not sure who that favors.
In all 3 games against Jefferson, Mound City got down early but was able to go on a run. All three were close wins. Jefferson is not far behind. They just haven’t been able to close out the games. Thanks for updates, guys. I think it’s still SEMO and NWMO’s world this year. Semo teams having the edge. North Andrew has looked like world beaters at times (1st Worth County, Pattonsburg, Mid-Buch), but they have not been been playing as well lately. I am not sure they have the consistency to make a run. They are capable of pulling off an upset, but I am not sure they can beat Mound City, Jefferson and Winston in 3 straight.
I’ve only watched them once and I was very impressed. Agree with your assessment.South Iron ladies and gentlemen.... they are footloose and fancy-free. Uptempo fast break, press, shoot the long shots or get a layup.

I always said when I was coaching, that sometimes it’s not who you’re bringing back, but who the other guys aren’t.They have a lot of tradition going back over 50 years. I remember being a member of the last team to beat them when they won the Class S Tournament in the 65-66 season. We were a class M school. They had a couple of better teams previously, but timing is everything and it doesn't work out because some years there is overall better competition. Also one year a great shooter came up with the mumps and was out for the season after dropping 44 in a playoff game.

I always liked when a team that went 4-22 bragged that they were bringing back all their starters the next year...... I always thought, cool, no need to worry about you this year.
It may happen to do some with their strength of schedule. Only Dora, Mound City, SCC, and Delta of the top ten offensive teams have a SOS above -2.0. Only North Andrews has a SOS above -2.0 of the top ten defensive teams. Weak schedule can make you look great offensively or defensively.Using entered scores on Maxpreps...top 10 Offensive teams in C1 Missouri using Points for Per Game
