Lebanon, Camdenton, Waynesville, Rolla

I would hate to be the Superintendent from Camdenton that ends the Highway 5 rivalry.

Better deal meaning Camdenton didn’t want Will Christian as their representative collaborating with the existing COC ADs for their football schedule? Probably so.
This is why they're scared of going to the COC? Lebanon and Camdenton have been a package deal this whole time. Just because Christian is on the board, doesn't mean he's just going to be out to get Camdenton's football schedule...

Riiiiiight…no slanted views there. You don’t think it’s odd that Christian is the ONLY rep from the proposed new schools? Only him, along with all of the other COC ADs. Including Poo and Glendale.

I thought it was weird

The entire OC hasn’t won a state championship or played for one in football in almost 20 years.
Camdenton won Class 4 title in 1999
Kickapoo was in Class 5 semis in 2000
Camdenton won Class 4 Title in 2005
Waynesville won Class 5 Title in 2007
Kickapoo was in Class 6 Semis in 2015
West Plains was in Class 4 Semis in 2022

That’s just off the top of my head.

You take away Webb City, and suddenly the COC doesn’t have any more clout in that department than the OC does

Waynesville is just an insane add lol
They’ve got a good coach there. Waynesville is on the rise. If that coach stays, they should be fairly competitive in the COC in the future.

I’m not saying they’ll win the COC or anything like that, but they’ll be in the top half if that coach sticks around.

So it’s official:

In football, they lose Branson and CJ, and add Kickapoo, Glendale, Lebanon, and Waynesville (lose two, add four, but still no official word on divisions…)

There will be two divisions of 6 teams each for football, with crossover games. I'm not sure how that will be broken down or what freedom coaches may have in making those decisions.

Can someone explain why the COC needs this?
Unpopular opinion, the Western schools are now outnumbered, they won’t be in this conference a decade from now.
Their opinions won’t carry the weight the used to with the geographical center of the conference changed.
This is all going to blow up in the Joplin area schools faces in 5 years or so.

They can apply to the OMC and be voted down.

They don't and why the Joplin area went along with this...I don't understand. Maybe they felt they had no choice? Waynesville especially is absurd. Nothing against them as a school or competitor but they are outside of the footprint of the region. Lebanon who is also outside the footprint is the only school close to them. Parkview and Central in other sports, OK I guess?

This is just pretty dumb in my opinion unless the COC is broken into 3 regions. The "west" with the 4 here. The "central" with Springfield area. And the "east" with Lebanon and Waynesville. The east and west should NOT play each other in ANYTHING. Springfield schools can play everyone except in football.

How is Lebanon outside the footprint? Springfield is the center of the conference. Lebanon is a pure Southwest Missouri town that is geared toward Springfield.

What "foot print" though? For the Springfield area schools Lebanon HS is closer than Webb, Joplin, Neosho, etc. Perhaps they saw some value in adding a good football program to the league within reasonable driving distance. I think the West schools often forget that the COC as a conference existed long before they entered the picture.

I do think the COC wants to overtake the whole southwest region a sort of large school, dominant, super conference. The lack of Camdenton/Rolla dented that a bit but a 14 team large school league is a big deal. The league is the premier league in a 2.5 hour radius and will eat up every bit of media coverage. The SEC of high school athletics. Yes there are some lesser teams in some sports, but the SEC has that as well. Vandy is horrible in football but they are the class of the conference in baseball more often than not. Each of the added schools brings some value in different areas. I can understand the supt's thinking with what they've done.

I don't see why that matters unless you are going to get a TV contract out if it.

This all seems odd to me. Why didn't Camdenton and Lebanon stick together? Why didn't Rolla and Waynesville stick together? This may be the 2024-25 setup, but will there be more moves a year from now for 2025-26? Is the COC after quality or quantity? At the 10 teams they had going into today, the quality was higher than it is at the end of the day.

Yeah not sure what happens when Waynesville bails at some point.

Joplin area has done well on their own before if that is what the Springfield area is hoping for on this move, although that seems a weird motive to revamp a conference with the hope of driving a chunk of it away later. Yet as for the western schools, there were some interesting neighboring state nonconference games in the past that are kind of missed with this full conference same ole same schedule. Next ten years may be interesting it seems. However, the area is 0 for 2 in long term superconference attempts.

Because Springfield is not currently the center of the conference that’s how the footprint changes. There is an east cluster and a west cluster. Monett and mt Vernon would be the center of the coc if they were in it. By adding schools 2-3 hours into the center of the state the footprint changes… THEN Springfield will be in the center. I see why this is good for those schools but it’s not good for everyone. Maybe the new majority the Springfield area has now just told Joplin to suck it or leave.

Trading Waynesville for Joplin, Carthage and Webb would be a choice

Lord, don’t take football away from Webb. Hell, the place would just implode.

I’ve said it multiple times on here. Ignore it if you want. Camdenton didn’t stick together with Lebanon because Camdenton didn’t want Will Christian making their football schedule for them.

Lol. See, this is how the western schools view themselves. If you don’t think the Springfield area is the center point of this conference, you’re just refusing to see the truth. Why did the west schools agree to this? Because it’s the only option they had. If they didn’t, they’d be four schools looking for a conference. That shouldn’t be too difficult to see. The western schools need the Springfield area, not the other way around. It sucks if you’re a western school, but it’s the truth.

Camdenton broke up with Waynesville as well. That rivalry is actually older than the Lebanon one. And it used to be a really nasty one at that.
