BIG 8

True...but which one will better prepare you for your district? Points don't win games.
I think a few teams a year in that league would be good. I assume they would schedule a big non conference game against someone each year.

I am hearing
All other OC and COC schools left will merge into one conference.
I dont think Waynesville or Rolla will be involved.
Will be some type of 3 tiered divisions.

Joplin
Carthage
Webb City
Neosho
Willard
Republic
Nixa
Ozark
Kickapoo
Parkview
Hillcrest
Glendale
Lebanon
Camdenton
That part is completely a rumor. It hasn't been talked about amongst the schools. At least not officially or a collective unit.

Put all of those schools in a pot and divide them by enrollment for football and geography for everything else.

Idk if Pittsburg has any games open, but that game would seem to be a great fit for CJ if they could get it. Miami Oklahoma? Parsons KS?
there are some nearby possibilities for sure.

And... Depending on what happens to the COC, what's to say they wouldn't still play Webb... Id say both schools would want to keep that "Rivalry" going.

All COC Standings 22-23

Gimmie a few mins and I'll post the last few years as well. This is what I was talking about as far as not much (if really any) difference in competition. Help me out here...Competition...Do you honestly think the Joplin 5 offer more in competition than the SPS 5? Like across the board actual competition? Or are you just stuck talking about football? You might think it runs all of this, but I can assure you it doesn't. While the west schools view football as king and wear their 1985 mesh jerseys to games, that's hardly how it works on the east side.

No you were trying to compare SPS schools with Joplin area Schools.

No, that's not what I was doing at all. What I was saying, and what I still believe, is the competitive difference in the COC wouldn't change much if you swapped out the Joplin 5 with the SPS 5. You sound like my wife, trying to tell me what I was doing or thinking.

Believe what you want. I have already showed the data Joplin area is much better than The SPS for sports across the board. Except boys basketball

Pittsburg has to drive to Wichita and KC to play games. They will stop doing that if possible. Independence, Coffeyville and maybe Fort Scott.

Lol. You're not really a data kind of person, are you?

You're missing the point here, data guy. You're "collecting data" to compare two focus groups (roll with me here if you're reading this and a true research person). To do so, you're using one single qualifier, Final 4 appearances. While also ignoring any other variable, which is really admirable. But also a tad misguided. What could a variable be, you ask? Do each of the 5 schools have the same chance at a Final 4? Meaning, are all five schools in one district? Spread across two or even three? For all I know, it could be skewed in favor of the Joplin 5. Problem is, we don't know. Your research didn't include any of that.

Then there's the entire separate issue of you using all of the "data collection" to show how one group is superior to the other. Even if we all agreed upon your hypothesis of Final 4 appearances being the end all be all of which group is better (we don't), you've still whiffed on the main premise of what I said. Which was the Joplin 5 offers no more or less competition than the SPS 5. Now what I've said is COMPLETELY subjective. And the reason I put the COC standings up was I think just about any rational thinking person could see Poo being at or near the top, Glendale being middle, and the other three being near the bottom. Which is basically what you see now and have for the past few years. Again, completely subjective (admittedly), but also about the best that could be offered up.

Pittsburg is playing Smithville this year. Fort Scott played Springfield Central. CJ would make a lot more sense to play. I believe CJ would have several good options for ooc games. CJ did play Pittsburg in football a few years ago and do play them in some other sports.

Clever has athletes and is growing. They just have to find the right coach and culture. They could definitely be a program to watch if things go well. So far things have went about as bad as they possibly could. They are going to develop a culture of losing quickly
They’ve done better than Doniphan and Pleasant Hope. That’s for sure.

LOL! Come on guys! Just playing.

Golf wasn't included, I thought it should've been listed. I don't care if the sport is of interest or not.

Seneca McCounty Nevada Cassville Monett E Newton Aurora Mt Vernon Lamar and CJ? Would that be the 10?

Numerous sources now from multiple school districts involved. I think sometimes we get swayed by the opinions of this Board and start turning them into fact.

Generally it’s been stated many times on here that “CJ burned their bridges” and “there’s no way the Big 8 would take them back!”

Should we have really believed that? School Administrators change, ADs change, times change. Level heads look at it and say “this just adds more prestige to the conference, and most of us can compete with them (and beat them often enough) and that it will make us better too.”

The smallest Big 8 schools are competing just fine with the Class 4 schools like Mac County, Nevada, Monett, Aurora, Marshfield. CJ didn’t grow like everyone thought they would.

And lastly, while there’s a pretty big disparity in Class 4 schools trying to compete with Class 6 schools (maybe a thousand more students filling those athletic spots), the disparity is not the same between competitive Class 2 football like Lamar (60+ on their roster every year) and Class 4 CJ (maybe 70 on the roster at a the better years).

And we all know Lamar isn’t afraid of CJ or frankly playing anyone else.

Interesting. I've spoken to one COC AD that laid out the plan they gave the COC when they told the conference they were leaving. The Big 8 wasn't mentioned at all. But, as we all know, things change Mox.

Hopefully this doesn't happen. Nevada is good now but they aren't always good. Same with Seneca. Only Lamar is always good. The bottom of the Big 8 can be pretty bad.
