BIG 8

I can believe this happened but they would have to have a home first.
Marshfield, Rog, West Plains, CJ, Branson, Bolivar...and I assume possibly Neosho. Not sure about the other OC schools. Had heard at one time at least one or two others were involved in it.

I had heard they were going to invite Parkview and Hillcrest and possibly Central not CJ for sure but the others mentioned.

You cant just invite those individual schools though. SPS has the ultimate authority, and I doubt that they would allow their schools to break up. Plus that would leave Glendale and Kickapoo in a pretty tough spot.

Does each of those schools have an AD or is there an AD for SPS? Just curious how that works in a very large school district.

I think each school has an AD but there is someone over all of the ADs. The SPS board would have to approve a conference change. The average Springfield voter might want the schools to stay together.

Each HS has a building AD. Josh Scott is the AD for the entire district. Former AD at Waynesville.

Leaves Nixa Ozark Willard Republic Kickapoo Glendale. With some combination of Carthage Webb City Joplin Camdenton and Lebanon. So not really a bad spot for Kickapoo and Glendale.

I have always been told there's no way that an SPS admin or board would approve splitting the schools...but then there was the whole Central thing...so who really knows.

You could allow the SPS schools to split if you told everyone that are required to play everyone else non conference. You couldn't do that for football.

Yeah but they are class 4 and 5 schools and that matters for district points
CJ getting a high district seed would be a big advantage, most teams are going to be making a long drive for a semi or title game. And a Huge hometown crowd is always nice in November!

But would they be tested enough in a conference that weak??

It looks like a few non conference games would be needed so schedule up. Also WP is usually good. Bolivar is good this year. I think a few schools a year would be good in that league. If would just rotate.

Leaves Nixa Ozark Willard Republic Kickapoo Glendale...
Sign me up for that six teamer if I'm one of those schools. Play home and home in the bigger sports like basketball and baseball. Gives football freedom of scheduling.

Lebanon and Cammy are fine for football but I would hate to conference with them for other sports. They are good in terms of competition balance but too far away! From here at least.

How does West Plains fit into this?
I can’t imagine that drive would excite any of these schools.
Those other 5-6 make a lot of since.

They don't. The state puts a lot of pressure on schools at times to allow teams into conferences. IF a new conference is formed I don't see why a Springfield area conference would feel the want or need to add WP. Let them be SEMO's problem...🤣

West Plains should created the BFE conference. Any school that falls in the BFE part of @J. Kane map automatically gets put in the conference. No matter the size.

New Conference
CJ
Branson
West Plains
Bolivar
Marshfield
Logan Rodgersville

I am hearing
All other OC and COC schools left will merge into one conference.
I dont think Waynesville or Rolla will be involved.
Will be some type of 3 tiered divisions.

Joplin
Carthage
Webb City
Neosho
Willard
Republic
Nixa
Ozark
Kickapoo
Parkview
Hillcrest
Glendale
Lebanon
Camdenton

Why wouldn't those 6 schools be involved with the rest if they are doing tiers anyway? 6 is small for a conference.

Surprises me that CJ would leave if the COC/ozark really is splitting into tiers I would think they would want to be a part of that.
As opposed to drives to west plains and Branson.

If the COC ia staying as is. Then it’s a no brainer for CJ and even Neosho to JET

I kind of agree but maybe they are going to play some Kansas schools in football and then play a lot of the COC schools in the other sports anyway.

Parkview and Hillcrest fit much better with Branson Rog etc.
Ozark Nixa Republic Willard Kickapoo Glendale Webb Carthage Joplin and Neosho is the most logical which means it probably won't happen. 2 trips west per sport for Springfield Metro schools isn't a bad deal.
