BIG 8

I believe it is treated as if you are playing someone of your same class or lower. You get not added points regardless of the out of state school size.
▪ Enrollment
• Enrollment of school is identified and determination of enrollment make-up → 9-11 or 9-12 o If 9-12; 75% of enrollment used for classification to mirror MSHSAA Enrollments
• Adjustments of enrollments are identified o Any multiplier is removed from the school’s enrollment classification
• Enrollment is compared to MSHSAA enrollment breaks and school is classified as such
• All out-of-state affiliated schools are placed in Class 1, this would include Home School Association teams
▪ Play-Up points are applied based upon classification just as playing an in-state team

This is why Blair Oaks moved past Centralia in districts. They got the 20 points for up against Topeka Seaman since they are the equivalent of class 5 school in Missouri.

Learn something new everyday. Thanks for the clarification on it. Do you know how district points are calculated throughout the season, do the current standings have your future opponents record calculated into your points right now?

Ex. if Team A next 3 games are combined 16-2 and Team B are 8-10. Would those records be calculated in the current standings or not until the game is played vs. that opponent.

From my understanding and everything I've read about it, it's only calculated based on the opponents that a team has played.

An update to what I am hearing.

Branson/CJ officially out of the COC, and West Plains and Bolivar out of the OC. 8 schools left in each conference.

The remaining COC and OC schools will stay separate but they are looking into a partnership for football to fill the two non-conference games. These will be based upon winning percentage, matching up teams who have finished similar in standings in the past. So a team like Neosho can wind up with Hillcrest/Parkview on the schedule, while a team like Webb would get someone like Lebanon/Camdenton. They are still working out the details on this.

That makes perfect sense.
I’d be curious to hear from the CJ and West plains parents/coaches to know if they are happy about this move or not….

I saw several CJ friends yesterday and they haven't mentioned this yet, I should have asked if they knew anything and what their thoughts were. I hate to lose them because it was a fun/close football game especially since I think they will be tough for the next few years.

Swapping out Branson for one of the better OC teams in football seems fine with me. Even if it's Camdenton or Lebanon. Branson is already a long trip. The schools here will probably schedule CJ in other sports out of conference so not really much difference there except it won't count as a conference win/loss but I'm not sure anyone really cares much about that anyway.

I talked to a boys soccer parent and she said they would rather drive twice as long for a better chance to win. However that was just 1 parent.

I also don't understand Bolivar and WP. To me the OC is the perfect set up for a good class 4 team. Lots of easy class 5 teams depending on the year.

People really need to remember that this is about more than just FOOTBALL. Unlike College there is no huge football television deal that drives things.

I think that is why many wonder what is going on. WP CJ Marshfield LogRog Branson those are all going to be a long trip for Tennis cross country basketball JV teams thru the week nights.

CJ will just flip all of the Joplin area schools to non conference so CJ will travel less for non conference and more for conference. For CJ this is totally a football move.

😂 I get that.
But I doubt they want to blackball them when it’s a really close bus trip and typically going to be a W in most sports. Other than girls bball of course.
Actually 2 years from now boys basketball is going to be better than girls at CJ.

Marshfield or Rogersville going once every other year to CJ and WP is a better deal than what would be left with Reeds, Catholic and Hollister leaving the Big 8. Still think Hillcrest and Parkview fit better with the new conference than what is left in the Ozark Conference but that may shake out down the road.

Yeah and 9 big 8 schools are going to be looking for a Non Conference game so CJ would make alot of sense for some of them. I am sure they will find some non conference games.

But still WP to CJ for a needed conference tennis match is going to be a dang long bus ride. That will be a 3 hour bus ride. Going to love that one on a school night. Carl to Marshfield is 1 hour and 40 minutes. Logan Rogerville is another hour and 40 minutes. Branson 2 hours.

I think a sport like tennis should look at meetings somewhere a few Saturdays during the season and playing the conference games. Not sure if there are any other sports where this could work. I don't see tennis as having a home court advantage or ticket revenue that schools won't want to give up.

Yes. Volleyball quads/triangular type formats would be smart in several sports

Some of these schools take volleyball seriously (CJ, Rogersville, Marshfield) so not sure if they would do that. Tye only travel that needs to be mitigated is CJ to WP.

They can't. I've tried. Hard headed bunch. Like when someone from a west COC school says "this makes sense to me" when talking about the OC and COC schools that could spit on each other remain in a conference that quadruples their travel rather than splitting from each of their conferences and forming their own. Not one damned thing makes sense about that. You know, when you look at it from all angles. And not just the angle of a good football matchup on Friday nights. But then again, if you're a west COC school...might not be much else.

Yeah, it costs way more to host a tennis match than what you'll bring in ticket revenue. Lol. That's a good observation.

Another thing that could be done to save money is give the higher seed in districts the home games in non football sports. CJ and Webb volleyball are probably going to have to drive to Branson 3 times each for districts next week when they are both higher seeds than Branson. I get that officials are an issue but you just have to move games around.

Didn't someone mention the 10th as the day this was all going to be announced?
That was me(ish); I’d asked if it were true that the tenth was the day this had to all be decided (because someone told me that was the deadline…)

…I’m guessing whoever told me was wrong 🤷🏻‍♂️
