What a sh$(/ show. The Kylan Mabins story…

I have worked with these types of kids at jobs. Best advice, get away from them. Evey response they give will be racial. All they see is a color barrier.

The entire thing originated from the Kickapoo AD checking the undue influence box.

As many athletes as their athletic programs have benefited from moving into the school, Kickapoo should receive a lifetime ban from ever checking the box on any athlete leaving.

Period. The end.

"Phillips said it was the only time in his years as athletics director that he's claimed undue influence against a transferring student and added that he's never been on the receiving end of a school claiming undue influence against an athlete moving to Kickapoo."

I;m assuming this clown wasn't the AD when St. Charles checked the box on Christian Kirk, but really, to me, this is the craziest part of the entire story. How many college basketball played have transferred into that school over the years?

As far as I'm concerned, you can't be sitting back and accept Travon Brazile and Isaac HJaney with open arms, and then check the box on a kid because your feelings are hurt when a kid leaves.

Hate to see this. Hard for me to cape for Kickapoo in this sitch, or in any sitch for that matter.

I think the issue boils down to the complaint of racial discrimination, If you are the coach or school and somebody accuses you of that on the way out the door and you believe you are innocent then why not fight it? If you don't you look guilty and going forward anybody who wanted could then always point to this transfer and say it is true.

If someone makes a claim of undue influence, they had better be able to prove it. Because it sounds like a cause of action for slander for the receiving school.

Rack him! This, this, and more this. Poo looks like the biggest hypocrites in the world right now. Typical spoiled brat behavior.

The AD at Kickapoo is also the AD at Glendale. SPS has one AD for all high schools.
SPS has a district AD. That is Josh Scott. Each HS has their own building AD. Strange though, I doubt Josh Scott has ever counseled an athlete from leaving, say Hillcrest for Poo. But he sure swayed the Mabins family from attending Glendale between this kids 8th and 9th grade years. I just wonder how many athletes leaving a non Poo HS he has given this same advice to?

Oh they do have proof. Hence two Glendale coaches getting fired. 🤣🤣

Wasn’t the first time those coaches had been warned about blatant recruiting.

Wasn’t the 2nd, 3rd or 4th time either.

Just because Kickapoo has been on the other end of the stick, doesn’t mean that this kid and those coaches shouldn’t be held accountable.

Do you really think this is why Mauk got fired?

So it's ok for Poo to break the rules and not be held accountable by their own district, but it's ok for their own district to hold another school accountable in the same type situation? Neat.

If we dont enforce rules simply because someone else has been able to get away with it, are you suggesting that we are to the point that rules can never be enforced?

No I think he’s just commenting on the laughable hypocrisy and also pointing out that Kickapoo seems fine with transfers until they’re on the wrong end of them.

I just find it curious THIS CASE is when SPS finally decides to enforce a rule.

Freeman
Starks
Brazile
Haney
Kirk

All just quickly off the top of my head. But THIS particular case they just can't let slide. Purely coincidence that it involved Mauk being on the wrong side of the rules and SPS probably wanting to rid themselves of an employee who currently has litigation filed against the district.

It was the final straw for him. That’s for sure.

And this isn’t a Kickapoo vs Glendale thing to me.
Neither of them should be allowed to get away with these things.
But everybody on here is just acting like, well if Kickapoo gets away with it then everybody should attitude about it.
So it’s not even about accountability at this point, it’s just being made into a Kickapoo vs Glendale drama and that shouldn’t really be the point here.

Oh, I understand where you come from, and yes, we have seen it time and time again. Think how often schools that benefit check that box. (think a little south of Spfld when a certain QB/Wrestler moved to the KC area)

What sport historically is more important in springfield area over the last 30 years???

I really believe there were some serious issues in Pooland. Racial and homophobic issues were definitely present and covered up by their admin errrrrrrr officially buried from 2017 on-
I agree with Mo that since this transfer didn’t suit them- Ole’ Philips did his best to isht on the transfer by ☑️. Poo can’t have it both ways.

You gotta factor the Glendale v. Kickapoo thing…it is a variable- and can’t be ignored.

So what happens after that? He plays and he either keeps playing or they change their minds again?

Seems like they've seen all the evidence they need to see to make a permanent decision either way.

If Mabins family had moved, as Brazile’s did, they would’ve been ushered in. You’re allowed a full family move within the SPS district. But they didn’t move. Those 2 things have zero in common

Haney wanted to move after his sophomore year, but MSHSAA nixed it. His family sold the business, the house, and moved to Springfield, where he had been driving 4 days a week to train. All of it was done with MSHSAAs knowledge, hence the allowance.

The Mabins family has a well-earned reputation. The kid told everyone that would listen that they were just gonna claim racism, because it’s a white town. It worked. His mom and dad will sue for monetary damages if he doesn’t get the college opportunity they want. It’s another thing the kid has told everyone. This is gross. And now the floodgates are open. There will be no more stopping moves. Even the Brooks kid that transferred from Waynesville to Central to play basketball won his appeal, but only after they sold their house. MSHSAA has always been pretty clear on the rules, it’s just that Sean Mabins thinks he is above them. And if he’s on the losing side—scream racism. Poo wasn’t too racist for the kid to tell the hoops coach he wanted to play for Poo this year….

Seems like the check the box will go away soon, so many are now getting overturned on appeals.

Soon it will be the wild wild west of transfers, and Schools will no longer be able to hold anybody accountable. Don't like just move then scream and yell.

Dude, I don't disagree with anything you're saying. You can cherry pick examples all you want. And from everything I've read and heard about this family, it's all spot on. That said, you're either being obtuse or just extremely naive if you think one doesn't have to do with the other. And while their situation is obviously ridiculous and overtly for athletic purposes, it's pretty crazy to think situations like this have never occurred in SPS previously. Hide behind the "free move after 8th grade" garbage all they want too, still doesn't change the fact that this goes on in SPS all of the time. And I think those outside SPS that have seen it happen for years are getting a little satisfaction over all of this.

Here's a little fun piece of info for you, and no clue if it's true or not. I have heard the Mabins didn't even live in the SPS district when this young man attended Glendale. Now that's fun info. I'm sure had SPS known, they surely would've acted upon it, right???
