Yeah, they did away with the "A" designations in 2002 or thereabout. That's been over 20 years!
Correct MO went 6 classes that year. One of the most KC metro dominant ones of all time, too. Still remember that phantom call that cost Ray-Pec the C5 title.................

I just finished watching Lutheran north beat CR… Wow what a game.

#7 can play for LN fast and electric!
LN is smaller than I thought and not as physical as I thought they would be.

CR is not the best football team I’ve seen this year….

I watched Kearney play north Kansas City and park hill and I told my wife I thought this was the most violent defense I’ve ever seen in my life in high school football all levels.

The speed in which plays break down at the dline is like watching one of those dream team college teams like Georgia route TCU the Kearney dline is big, violent and fast.

Kearney linebackers and safety’s are going to be a huge problem. #4 and # 19 are electric on the field and great football players #4 cleans up everything and has room to run and that looks the same way each and every game.

Kearney #1 and #2 are the two best Dlineman I’ve ever seen at getting off the ball and disrupting every play in high school. The violence these guys are bringing looks like they should be in a prison somewhere.

Kearneys QB can’t throw, if he throws vs LN he could go 5/10 with 5 ints. That’s the only liability I see on Kearney. #15 can’t even complete screen passes without it being a sht show.

I don’t know how LN moves the ball on Kearney and they do not play as hard. LN has better overall team speed but Kearney could turbo them if they don’t do anything stupid.

These are the two best teams in the state of MO but my money is on the best HS defense I’ve ever seen. My nephew coaches at PH and he said take it for what it’s worth that this Kearney defense could physically dominate any college D2 program and that #1,#2 and #4 had NFL strength today and would be 5stars if they weren’t slightly undersized.

The only other comment that stuck with me was “when you play the top 6a schools you have 1-2 seconds to do something vs Kearney plays instantly break down and there is no where to go with the football because they are dropping 7-8 players each snap”

Got my popcorn for playoffs !It was a bad year to have Platte County vs. Kearney taken off of the schedule, because that might end up being the data point to settle C4 vs. C5.

C4 vs. C6? That one will be a little harder to claim victory by Class 4 when it’s said and done I’m guessing.

Everyone I have chatted with locally says the same it is pretty darned obvious. PC has the most dynamic O in the Metro and K the best front seven (utterly rare for those to be in C4-5 not almighty 6 which is still strong this side of MO). Would have helped both during these upcoming playoff runs.

Not Joey!

KC Northlander who follows HS football and roots for all of our KC metro and small town NWMO teams. Been around for awhile but haven't posted.

In 03 is the only other time I can think of that the class 4 school might have beat the class 6 champion. Kearney beat class 5 Ray Pec who either won state or was the runner up by the turbo clock.

Park Hill won C5 that year I believe Belton beat Ray-Pec in the quarterfinals. It was the only year of that era the Panthers did not go to the Dome. They were runners up in 2002 then took flight in 2004 the Coffman years.................interesting tidbit one Greg Jones returned from a single year stint in Arkansas as a Kruse assistant in 2003.

That 42-6 rematch from first time Kearney ever appeared on Metro Sports GOTW September 2002 losing 37-28 was also live televised and I am sure is somewhere in their archives. I remember calling Dad telling him times were about to change in the ole hometown who could have known what was coming the next year, though! GREAT memories.

Would have been interesting to see Kearney and Blue Springs hook up 21 years ago indeed but MAN that Wildcats squad was loaded, too. 2003 was beyond a special year in this region.................

Ray Pec didnt even make the playoffs that year according to MSHSAA.

But go on.

I only discovered this site by accident November 2007 or would have been here for it all guaranteed.
Who remembers Chad (the Monster) Harberts and Metro Sports very cool tribute video to the 2002 MO and KS champions? Only a phantom holding call against Ray Pec cost this area a clean sweep on this side of the state line plus Olathe North won KS 6A.

Nah Ray Pec lost to belton in districts iirc.
Could have been that early but I do absolutely remember the Winnetonka-Park Hill quarter man oh man what a game the Trojans were so fortunate to emerge from that one! Next round they won a higher scoring close one over aforementioned Belton. Again was RP's only "down" year they steamrolled the C5 field in 2004! Was so cool seeing them and C3 Harrisonville go back to back in the Dome huge crowds for both schools/towns showing out and rooting each other on!

Sorry folks could go on and on and on and on.......................just fortunate to have this memory the beer hasn't killed just yet LOL.
