Frisco League Discussion

Osage 65
Iberia 49

Richland 43
Belle 35

Anyone have scores from Newburg/Houston, Stoutland/Cole Camp or Dixon/Stover?

Wow, Houston beat Newburg. Didn't see that coming. Did Newburg play in a tournament before/over the Christmas Break? If so, how did they do there?

Well good thing u are just a wannabe and have no power in hiring and firing coaches. Maybe u should run for school board again. I'm sorry ur kid didnt get to play much is hs under coach Conway. Being a part of an elite program isnt for everyone. I got it!!! Coach marlatt was a better player than ur girl...yeah. I know who u are. Disgruntled dad...u drink too much also. I am a profiler... like Clarise Starling on Silence of the Lambs.

I didn’t know everyone had to agree with your opinion on Coaches on this board. My opinion won’t effect their career

maybe they got 3rd. they can be good if the chemistry is good. They could still win their district but they could also lose 1st round.

Since most of the teams don't update their Maxpreps schedule and scores, does anyone know the records of the Frisco League schools? It looks like other than Licking, Crocker and Plato the others are missing games.

Licking 10-3
Crocker 9-2
Plato 5-6

I think those are accurate, then there's
Richland 1-2
Laquey 0-6
Iberia 1-6
Newburg 6-3
Dixon 2-4
Stoutland 1-3

I don't think any of those are accurate. Unless Laquey beat Versailles tonight, then I believe they are still winless on the year, just don't know how many games they have played.

Any help is welcome!

I'm shocked nobody has really brought up the fight Laquey got in with itself during the Seymour game. Not sure I've ever even heard of that happening before in MO HS girls basketball. As an admin and/or coach in that instance what do you do?

When you say fight do you mean physical or verbal? I have seen teammates yell at each other but never anything physical at least not in a game.

I saw video from that fight. CRAZY!!! I couldnt believe what I was seeing.

legit physical fight between quarters that spilled onto the court and delayed the start of the second quarter. Admin/parent had to intervene and pull the two players apart and escort them off the floor.

Both girls are off the team. At least that’s what I heard. I’ve never seen two players from the same team go at each other like that. Must’ve been quite a disagreement. And probably had nothing to even do with basketball.

Richland Lady Bears just downed the Lady Wildcats from Licking! 73-69. Like I said before, any team can beat any team on any given night. Not sure what Rissler’s technical was about.

Also, I bet Charley Parker is smiling ear to ear tonight as Rolla beat Kickapoo by 2 in OT. Only reason it made it to OT is because Rolla was up by three and fouled Kickapoo on 3 point try with 1.6 seconds remaining. Kickapoo sank all three free throws. Oops!

Especially when the game is at Richland...

Newburg Lady Wolves just made Licking’s world much brighter. After Richland beat Licking this week, I’m sure Steve Rissler was thinking his chances of winning the Frisco League again this year had just been squashed. All Richland had to do was get by Newburg and they would’ve had the Frisco League championship in the bag. This is assuming they wouldn’t lose to anyone else in the league. And after beating Licking, who would’ve thought they would lose to anyone else? But with Newburg’s win over Richland last night 52-47, Licking is right back in it for at least a share of the title. For Newburg to have a shot, they must still beat Licking and not lose to anyone else in the league. Their conference game loss to Dixon really hurt their chances. But if they can beat Licking and remain with Dixon as their only loss, then they could win the conference. This would leave them and Richland as having only one loss apiece. And since Newburg beat Richland head to head, would this mean they would have the conference title to themselves? Or would it be a shared title because of each team’s one loss?

Newburg seems to be having a year much like last year. They have the ability to play well and they do play well against some teams. Then they completely choke against other teams. I mean who would’ve thought they would be able to hang with St. Clair and beat Richland (right after Richland beat Licking). They stayed with St. Clair right up until the end. Claire Affolter fouled out of this game in the fourth, just as she did against Dixon, Houston, and who knows who else. The rest of the team has got to figure out a way to win those close games without her. And she has to figure out a way not to foul out in close games. Part of this just comes with inexperience. Inexperienced players and inexperienced coach. However, looks like Newburg’s coach has made some adjustments defensively that maybe has turned things around for the Lady Wolves.
In a year or two, I look for Newburg to be the team to beat in the Frisco League. They seem to have some talent coming up in the next couple years. Richland will continue to be tough for at least one more year. That’s when Katelin Cole will graduate and this will be a huge loss for the Lady Bears. There’s nobody on the team or coming up from the younger grades that will be able to fill her shoes. There’s not much coming up for Richland after this year’s group of sophomores graduate either. Crocker will be tough too, especially if they can keep coach Mueller on board. And Licking will continue to be a contender. I don’t see any of the other schools with as much young talent as Newburg, Crocker, and Licking. I hope for Licking’s sake that MSHSAA keeps them far away from St. James’ district because with the talent that St. James has coming up, they will be be knocking the snot out of most teams in this area.

Licking was never a challenge for st James at sectionals in Rolla

I have no idea how many times Licking and St. James met at sectionals in Rolla. However, over the last decade or so, I’d guess that they’re records with one another are probably fairly even when factoring in regular season games and tournament games. I’d say the first several years of the last decade probably went to St. James and the last few years have seen Licking with the advantage. Both teams have fantastic coaches and both teams have had their fair share of talent. Of course St. James girl’s basketball has a tradition of being pretty phenomenal, dating back to the 90’s. But you can’t honestly say with a straight face that Licking hasn’t been able to compete with St. James over the last few years. My point was to simply point out the obvious; Licking hasn’t had to worry too much about meeting St. James in districts or State Tournament play in the last few years. These two teams are in the SAME district this year. I think Licking will win that district. My point was that Licking will have its hands full with the talent that St. James has coming up in the next few seasons. And with talent like that, any school that has St. James on their schedule will have its hands full.
With your comment, the implication was that St. James has always been and will always be dominant to Licking in class 3 post season play. All you have to do is look at the past few seasons and see that your implication just isn’t so. Licking seems to be the more dominant team the past few seasons.
Looking forward, beyond this season, any class 3 team, including Licking, will be hoping that MSHSAA keeps them as far away from St. James as possible. Of course this is contingent upon St. James’ young talent staying together, remaining eligible, and continuing to mature and get better at basketball. I’ve seen plenty of talented young kids reach their peek by about 8-9 grade, some even younger. For some, they just seem to plateau and never really get better. So you can’t always just look at kids’ success when they are young and still in Jr. High. This success at young ages doesn’t always translate to success at the varsity level. But if we assume that St. James young talent will continue to progress and get better, then they will have several standout seasons in the next few years.
