Just saw Eminence blew out South Iron 65-29. They are on a 21 game win streak right now. Anyone have thoughts on what will happen if they get to play Advance again?
That first game against Advance (Eminence's first game of the year) was a really bad showing for Eminence. I don't think they're the same team that showed up to that game. That being said, Advance's guard play is really, really good, and they also have a strong 6'5" kid who is athletic. It'll be a tough match-up, and I'm looking forward to that game. My bias says Eminence wins by 5 in the rematch.

Advance does have strong guard play. However, the inside kid isn't 6-5, he's 6-2 or 6-3 but he can dunk on you quick. He's real athletic but not a great scorer. The key to beating Advance is limiting them to one shot. They don't press well at all when they are not scoring. But if you let them get on a roll they can get up 20 real quick. I'll take Eminence if there is a rematch.

The program I had listed him a little taller than 6'2", which I guess is commonplace these days, lol. And he dunked in traffic on Eminence in the first game. It was impressive. And though he's not a great "scorer" in the sense that he doesn't create shots for himself, he's a tenacious rebounder and he's plenty strong. He got a good deal of second chance buckets by fighting for position and just being a workhorse. If Eminence runs man, I think assigning McBride to him will eliminate those hustle points, especially if there's an emphasis to not allow offensive boards. Even if they run zone, I think hammering the idea of crashing the glass and blocking out for McBride and Dyer could help out in that department. If Ethan Drake and Trent McBride play like they have been since the Cabool Holiday Tournament, I find it hard to believe that they lose to Advance again.

Low scoring for the eagles the past few games

The last 2 opponents have been grind it out type teams that slow things down. Defensively Jamestown has done a great job of limiting uncontested shots and are able to control the boards. That usually plays well in postseason.

It will be interesting to see if they can match pace with advance and eminence if they get out of their quarter (which seems like they should)

Coaches poll is out!
2017-18 MBCA Boys Basketball Poll #9 (Release 2/7)
2017-2018 Boys' Basketball Poll No. 9 (Release 2/7)

The MBCA Basketball poll is selected by a panel of coaches representing each of the 8 MBCA districts and each of the five Missouri basketball classes.

Class 1

1 North Andrew 20-0

2 Eminence 20-1

3 Advance 15-6

4 Jamestown 19-2

5 Winston 18-2

6 Meadville 18-4

7 Lakeland 17-2

8 Walnut Grove 13-9

9 Dora 17-5

10 Chamois 14-7

Pollsters, St. Joseph Christian beat Winston soundly....their only recent loss to a class 1 team is North Andrew...lost to a C3 trenton team.

I'd go:
1. NA- undefeated, but is it their weak region? Lots of people think Worth and SJC can pull the upset...can't sleep on Jefferson or Mound city in D16 either matching up in sectionals.
2. Advance--going to cruise in their district, won't meet resistance in sectional either...Will cruise to play Eminence/Dora in SE quarter.
3. Walnut Grove-someone convince me I'm wrong here..played C4 Helias to OT...come on pollsters. Played Nixa to single digits...coaches...come on. Them playing dora on the 15th will be fun. Either way, they will cake walk to final four.
4. Jamestown- Until someone beats them, they are the team to beat in NEMO quad. I think they get to Springfield. Meadville, Chamois, St. Elizabeth or Glasgow are formidable challengers though.
5. Eminence- Can't wait to see them Play Dora/Advance again
6. Dora- youngbloods getting stronger with each game. Could pull off a stunner and get to Springfield
7. St. Joseph Christian- Second best team in NWMO right now still. Sharing district with North Andrew
8. Worth County- Have to play Pattonsburg in districts likely, who stunned Winston and St. Joseph Christian earlier in the year...but if they get it done, they are favored against Winston.
9. Meadville --wouldn't be shocked if Slater upsets them in districts, but always a solid program that knows how to make runs in the playoffs.
10. Winston-- only two losses...Pattonsburg and St. Joseph Christian, and are the 1 seed in District 13 or 14, forget which one.
----Could also make arguments for Chamois, St. Elizabeth, Lakeland, Greenfield, Hurley as top 10 teams...but Greenfield and Hurley won't make it out of districts. Maxpreps isn't too far off with recent rankings in my opinion. Eminence may deserve to be above Advance...especially if their loss was a close one to Advance..but they will have the opportunity to set that straight if they can get by Dora again. Hard to beat a good club 3 times.

WOCO and SJC being out of the polls is very odd. I’m okay with the top 4. But from there down I’m not agree 100% with. Winston is a product of there schedule. I’d probably go Walnut Grove at 5, Meadville 6, Dora at 7, 8 WOCO, 9 SJC, and 10 Winston. I just can’t trust the HDC schedule they play. Just my opinion. My personal final 4 is Eminence, Jamestown, Walnut Grove and North Andrew. With 2 weeks til districts anyone see any of those 4 possibly getting bumped out in Sectionals or Quarters?

I think Jamestown and Eminence are the most vulnerable (due to Dora, Advance, and the challengers of Jamestown..not quality of team in Jamestown and Eminence). Walnut Grove is a lock down and stamp it. North Andrew has decent challengers, just depends on if they see a team on that team's good night or bad night.

I mean I do believe WOCO and SJC are dangerous. Having seen what they have done to some pretty good teams I think they are the team to beat. They beat a really good Plattsburg team last night. So I like them to come out of NWMO as final 4 representatives.

So they won you over from the last time you posted? :) I've been saying it all along...don't sleep on Worth County..they have ups and downs but will be ready at the right time.

Yeah they have. I was still hesitatant looking at them before. Saturday could help solidify them as the favorite if they beat Falls City Sacred Heart. Like you said though WOCO is dangerous. Getting healthy at the right time with there size they could spring the upset.

I also think Eminence is vulnerable just because they have the toughest schedule, but I no longer view Dora as as big of a threat after they've now beaten them twice. Advance is still a little worrying to me. Also, I don't think I shared the update, but that South Iron/Eminence match-up we were looking forward to ended up being a blowout. Eminence prevailed 65-29. I'm hopeful for South Iron's future though, especially with the Wakefield boy just being a Freshman.

Both games between Dora and Eminence were very competitive, just because Eminence beat them doesn't mean Dora doesn't have a chance at beating them in the sectional game. Dora also has the advantage of having played 3 games in Mt. Grove's gym where the sectional will be held.

Overlooking Dora would be a huge mistake. The game at Eminence was close and could have gone either way.

Speaking of Meadville (a very good basketball team), there is a class 1 team up in that area that has accounted for 1 of Meadville's losses (at Meadville) and has wins over 2 of the other 3 teams that Meadville lost to.

Hey, I'm loving the contributions from the lurkers...yeah...is Linn County going to be a factor? Seemed like they dropped a fair bit of games down the stretch.

Seems their girls aren't too shabby either :)

I'm not overlooking them, I'm just not as worried about them as I was earlier in the year. And the first game was close at the end, but it was a 17 point game at one point. And after the second game, I'm expecting that it is officiated a lot tighter than the first one. I just think that they don't have the size or the senior leadership to pull out an upset against this Eminence team. But hey, it's basketball. Anything could happen on any given day.
