Why Webb will beat Carthage...

I think it will be a good game and will be SHOCKED if WC wins!

Best of luck to both teams!

If this happens it will happen because all of Webb's success since 1990 gets into the heads of Carthage. It would be totally a mental victory. Carthage is a better team.
Over the last 30 years I have watched Webb win many games that nobody gave them a chance in. I wouldn't count the boys out yet

Carthage slaughtered the 2 other teams that beat Webb. I don't see it ..but you never know. I think Webb will be more prepared this time.

Webb will have to play darn near perfect and hope to catch a few breaks . Could happen. Gall is the best player in the coc on both sides of the ball and it's not close . So they have to figure out a way to stop him . I really hope Webb pulls the upset but it's definitely a big challenge

Webb may not win but I don't think you'd ever want to discount them from anything.

I believe Carthage is a superior team this year but it would not shock me AT ALL if Webb City somehow won. I've watched them for too many years to ever count them out of a game. They will be motivated and from what I've heard they have been preparing specifically for this game since the last meeting.

For Webb it will come down to whether or not they can come up with a way to stop the Carthage run game and if so force some passing situations into turnovers. They can't have any turnovers of their own. Webb has allegedly been using the last half of the season to improve their passing game so we'll see if that is a factor.

Carthage just needs to do their thing, dominate the LOS and not try to outsmart themselves like I've seen them do against webb in the past.

I really hope Carthage pulls it out. It would be great for those kids and that program to get a boost from playing more football while Webb fans move on to basketball. Also if Carthage wins it would buy me just a few more months of subdued banter from my webbie relatives and co-workers.

I'm hoping to see Ctown and Jackson play again but this time, I think Ctown could blow the doors off of 'em. It'll be fun Friday though.

This year's Smithville team is as close as I've seen in many a year BUT they aren't quite that level.
20-10 with Platte County, and Kearney at 14-0 end of the 3rdQ.... No bro, 2003 Kearney turbo clocked every opponent by the halftime except an NFL QB for Grandview, which they turbo clocked later in the game. This year's Smithville might crack the top 7 Kearney teams of the past 20 years though.

Kearney 2008 49.3
Kearney 2014 48.7

I would not be one bit surprised either. Talked to a WC player the other night and he said early what your post says.. that they've been focused on this game alone for the couple of weeks.

I think last week Webb was the first time in awhile they were full strength. That might hurt them. Usually they would have played an entire year with everyone so by the time districts start and then playoffs, they would be a fine tuned instrument but with so many key opponents out for a few games, that chemistry we normally see at this time year may not be there.

Hickman Mills played them to a 14-6 halftime score then, of course, it was a runaway in the 3rd. For that time no doubt 2003 Kearney is a "stand alone" team. I actually didn't go to many games knowing it was gonna be a no contest. My fingers were crossed all that season that no key injuries happened. They were very fortunate in that regard, too.

True that. Carthage will be tough to beat.. just really odd WC as an underdog to another local team.

2010 got beat at home by a 39.9.

GG.

The bottom team on the list got beat in the state final by Harrisonville.
2010 game was a classic rematch from a 41-0 playoff blowout the year before. Platte County and Webb City just played that same scenario out in 2019-2020. Very hard to get kids laser beam focused on that second game. Question is whether there are any like these on THIS year's horizon?

None of you all down there are talking about this being the first real big threat to Webb's district dominance. Has it really been 1999 since they didn't win one?
Well they talk about how it's been like 37 straight district trophies or something but they were knocked out of the post season (by Carthage) in 2007 also but maybe they weren't in the same district?

Yeah that was in the round of 16. At that time it was a four team district round robin.
