That Bowling Green goes to Lamar, Fair Grove Plays South Shelby. Now correct me if I'm wrong, Lamar and FG 60 miles or so apart. BG and SS in same neighborhood. Parents travel 100s of miles, when they could travel 60. MSHSAA has made much geographical nonsense in 30 yrs I spent coaching, but is inexplicable. How about seed after quarters? At least there could be a basis for pairings.

It's all about avoiding the same teams knocking each other out each year

Then they need to separate Carthage and Webb.
That would be hard in a 7 to 8 team district setting unless you broke Springfield up into 3 different districts 2 with kc teams and 1 with south central to central teams but then we have the travel complaint again. No perfect answer for all

I prefer close games first then spread out. Teams strengths change year to year. Can't predict how good a team is before the start.

Some of the best football in the state is played within a 25 mile radius of Kansas City and we make it work, probably works against some teams until they decide to get better. One thing it has done is the coaching up here has parlayed several guys into good college jobs and that probably happens again this year. Good coaches change culture and makes good young men, some towns have not figured that out yet there are places that better athletes walking the halls then they have on the field.

It is certainly possible to do because CJ and Webb are in different districts this year for girls basketball.

yea CJ in a KC district by themselves. anything is possible im just stating the reason why they rotate which districts play each other in the playoffs. How many times (maybe never idk) did Webb knock off a really good team in quarters or semis that was most likely a better game than the championship. There are programs that are consistently good and they just wanna move them around on who they play in state playoffs. Im not saying I agree just giving the reason

The whole notion of geography is baseless by MSHSAA, especially in Class 1 and 2. I understood back in the day when Districts came out in the Spring but now they come out the day of the Jamboree. I agree why not wait a little longer and try to create a basis for the best 4 teams ending up in the semi-finals on neutral sites.

Most teams have never complained about the travel….. they are excited to be playing another game! I never knew it was an issue until I read it on Mosports !!!! …sorry to say….This is really the best place to go to see grown men complain!!!!

parents and spectators complain more than anyone but maybe that's because they cant play anymore or never did

I would find that very hard to believe saying Most Teams, especially in District play. I have heard way too many schools with expectations placed on their ADs to schedule games within a certain distance during the regular season. From time to time on the Open Dates link on the MSHSAA website, schools will actually stipulate Class and Distance being a criteria for their potential opponents.

With that said welcome to the Grown Man Complainer Club, we were waiting for a Blow Hard. Now our Group is complete

“Most teams…excited to play another game”…my mistake!! I mistook this thread for playoff football and the initial thread by stocktiger!! I missed the morph into a discussion of district football games.

Maybe it's a different in perspectives I consider anytime you play a game in which the losing team's season is over, in my book is a playoff game. I apologize for trying to be cute I completely understand that under the circumstances a community would much rather play a game no matter the distance rather than not play at all. I just feel as if there is a much more efficient and judicious way of doing the system. So staying in the spirit of stocktiger it is a strange set up with no real consistent rhyme or reason. Just my opinion.

Honestly districts is a great thing, but my main issues is why do u want play some of your conference teams in districts? I got so tired of Hannibal playing NCMC Schools in district play every year.

Seeding is good idea to do after districts but at the same time it wouldn’t pin the best 4 teams up in the semis. Lutheran North would be a 5 seed this year just because of the points system
