Insight by rankings

1 Eminence- rolling so far...play Ranked C3 Springfield Catholic on the 8th

2 Dora- Beat Thayer for a tourney title..undefeated

3 South Iron- Rolled to a tourney title..play Eminence on 2/5..but know nothing else about them

4 Lakeland- 3-0, just don't know about this region

5 Walnut Grove 2-2...they shouldn't be t10. IMO.

6 St Elizabeth- 5-1 with a loss to a C3 licking team that appears solid

7 La Plata- 3-1 with a tourney title and an opening loss to C2 New Franklin who was consolation at Glasgow tourney..

8 Weableau- 0-1 19 point loss to lakeland...not top 10

9 Slater- 4-0 with tourney title...maybe the early frontrunner in NEMO

10 Halfway 3-0..just don't know much about SWMO.

vote-getters
Risco: 1-1
Wellington-Napoleon 1-1 but likely more games not reported. loss was to C4 Odessa
Concordia: 3-1 and a loss to pilot grove (not a good loss)
Mound City: 3-0 very strong. front-runner in NWMO right now, play jefferson really soon (12/7)
Canton: 2-1 with a 55 point loss to bigger Palmrya
North Andrew: 1-0 with victory over C2 West Platte, but remains to be seen where they stand with pretty much all new personnel.

Better get some votes: Jefferson- 4-0 with big win over C3 maryville (before football was over, but still) and Albany tournament title including a 38 point win in final

Winston: 4-0...blew out C3 Trenton in Gallatin final. Very good team.

SCC: I know they finished second at Oran Tournament, but nothing posted on mshsaa. They will be strong, but not sure about strong enough to play with dora or eminence.

My updated top 10

1. Eminence
2. Dora
3. Mound City
4. Slater
5. Jefferson
6. Wellington Napoleon
7. Winston
8. St. Elizabeth
9. South Iron
10. Linn County

still in the mix for sure:
Scott County Central, Halfway (I just don't know them), Lakeland, La Plata, again, need some insight from SWMO...maybe WGTigerdad can give some info
Hard to say who is going to come out of SWMO right now. Seems that part of the SWMO teams are going South East this year when district time comes around. So with the changes in alignment it’s pretty open. If I had to pick who will come out of the quadrant it would probably be Lakeland.
The Grove is adjusting to the lack of depth that they’ve been accustomed to having the past 4 years but by the end of the year they will be a tough out. Still playing a really tough schedule this year so they’re going to take some losses.

They're young, but they have the IQ and composure of a much older team. They have some absolute knockdown shooters, and they play hard. They split with my class 4 team in two games this summer. They have the ability to be extremely impressive at times. Brock Wakefield may be a player of the year candidate in a year or two, and the Dinkins boy is a lethal shooter, too. Their bigs play smart and have athleticism that will be dangerous soon.

Matchup well to Dora and Eminence?

Bigger but slower than Dora, Smaller but better shooters than Eminence. Those will be great games. I hate that they got put in a different district than Eminence this year. Those were some of my favorite games to go to growing up. Bet I've been to 20 or 30 of them. It reminds me a lot of the UNC/Duke games. Doesn't really matter how good the teams are, the game will be competitive.

We will find out a lot more about North Andrew in their next two games. They play East Atchison Friday and then open conference play next Tursday against Worth County.

I still think Pattonsburg will win the West despite their big loss to Jefferson. I think the GRC West boys is down this year from previous years.

East Atchison would definitely be a good measuring stick for North Andrew. The big game in the area definitely is Jefferson v. Mound City on Friday night. From my perspective, Jefferson, Winston, and Mound City are on their own tier in the area...Wellington Napoleon I just don't know about, but suspect they are there.

We will have to see about Pattonsburg as well

Tonight’s a big night. Find out who the favorite will be in Class 1 as Jefferson travels to Mound City tonight.
Who is everyone going to pick?

Jefferson Program DNA: Structured and focused...desiring open three pointers. Tempo Control...they usually press the whole game and push the ball up, especially on makes. They are largely unflappable and stick to the plan. They won't make many mistakes or turnovers.

Mound City: Strong, Athletic, more liberty on offense, with more dynamic scorers. Length is also in their favor. Mound City may have cemented their place in the district championship last year with the win against Jefferson, but the program hasn't "arrived" yet. Coach isn't as seasoned (nor is anyone in the area). Word is that MC can be riled and emotionally charged at times. They have a couple of guards (1 soph, and 1 freshman) averaging over 20 points per game, and they are creators, not just benefactors of a system.

The game is at Mound City, and probably a full house for both the girls and boys game.

My pick: Mound City by single digits in a thriller.

I’m going Mound City. Getting healthy now after a couple injuries in the state title football game. MC beat them last year and returned almost everyone from the team that won the district. They know how to win over there. I’ve got Mound City by 10.

I think the style of play of both teams, there are really 3 scenarios...

Jefferson wins a gritty, systematic game by close margin
Mound City wins a close game
Mound City goes on full tilt and blows them out...(this being the least likely, but it could happen with their two guards)

I will note I came across some more info on the top 10 as well. Wellington Napoleon won 70-66 to Concordia...so Concordia might be worthy of a top 10 look.

I also see via maxpreps that Wellington has Trey Shannon (I'm assuming coach's kid) is averaging 28.5 a game? Not too shabby. I believe they play in the I-70 conference tournament final tomorrow night. Looks like according to their roster they are all about the same size... 5'10-6'1 and two seniors are their heavy scorers so far.

the way too early maxpreps rankings (and a lot of schools need their scores posted) ---must have at least 3 games to make the rankings

After years of YOU DON'T KNOW ME harassing me about Max Preps, I started sending game scores in last year. I still don't send individual stats....too old school I guess. Coaches can go scout in person (or by HUDL, if you have it and a few friends) rather than surfing the net to get prepared. That's the problem with this "Millennial" generation (YDKM)....they worship Sheldon Cooper rather than Bobby Knight. (lol).

Gregg Popovich was quoted recently as saying good basketball is gone...it's all down to who makes the most 3 pointers... “These days there’s such an emphasis on the three because it’s proven to be analytically correct,” Popovich offered with what appeared to be a sneer. “Now you look at a stat sheet after a game and the first thing you look at is the threes. If you made threes and the other team didn’t, you win. You don’t even look at the rebounds or the turnovers or how much transition D was involved. You don’t even care. That’s how much an impact the three-point shot has and it’s evidenced by how everybody plays.”

The high level analytics must be practiced at Walnut Grove, Winston, and Jefferson.

You know those 3 coaches?....Meinders, Lewis and Jermain.....their hair is a lot grayer than when they started....well, Coach Jermain's would be if he still had any.
Analytics? analytics? (Colts Jim Mora imitation)..

Do these coaches even pay attention? How is Jefferson not in the Top 10?

I think they win by about 6-8 tonight. The game I watched against Pattonsburg was a higher level defensively than what I have seen in the past.

Well-Nap will have a big test against KC Lutheran next week. They are another team that is getting no attention that should be.

Meanwhile Winston is 6-0 and just cruising along like they always do. Mound City is the real deal. Remember MC hasn’t had many practices yet and are still healing from football (or just fully healthy)

They are currently my favorite in NWMO. They are very good and tonight showed it. And they will get better, as stated above, when they get more practices in. I saw them this summer and they beat everyone they played at the camp I reffed at. So, I’m not surprised by the start.

It appears from scores entered in Mshsaa, we should be on the lookout for the Delta Bobcats who have knocked of SCC in Overtime and also a solid C2 Oak Ridge team. Maybe they are the #3 team in SEMO class 1? Not sure.

Stealing from the Poster who put in about the SEMO Christmas Tournament seeds:

1. Cape Central
2. Charleston
3. Jackson
4. Oran
5. Cape Notre Dame
6. Delta
7. Oak Ridge
8. Scott City
9. Chaffee
10. Scott County Central
11. Kelly
12. Woodland
13. Advance
14. Meadow Heights
15. Leopold
16. Bell City

I love this tournament based on all sizes of schools and 4 games. Oran (C2) looks to be very strong this year, with Delta being the top C1 school, followed by Oak Ridge (C2) and SCC down at 10.

Northwestern beat Linn County 77 to 71

I think Slater is my favorite for now in NEMO. Meadville, Northwestern, Linn County, La Plata chasing. Don't sleep on Glasgow either...Coach Kropp will have his guys playing well by season's end.

5-1 La Plata will have a test with Mercer on 12/20 at the NCMC Trenton Shootout, and then again 1/4 with Linn County.
