Have we become so selfish and spoiled that we can't sacrifice for another 6 months to a year to save tens of thousands of lives?

Yes, some people are hurting and we should be helping them thru this crisis. Unemployment is at 8%, that means the other 92% is working. Why should we send another $1,200 check to people working? Most people I know never missed a pay check since covid started.
It doesn't mean the other 92% are working. It means the other 92% aren't drawing unemployment. There's a huge difference.

That's not correct:

From the Bureau of Labor Statistics:

"Some people think that to get these figures on unemployment, the government uses the number of people collecting unemployment insurance (UI) benefits under state or federal government programs. But some people are still jobless when their benefits run out, and many more are not eligible at all or delay or never apply for benefits. So, quite clearly, UI information cannot be used as a source for complete information on the number of unemployed."

Would it save tens of thousands of lives though? Do you really think that? You want another 6 months? Hell, in the beginning it was 14 days, right??? Why does it end in 6 months? The huge factor everyone wants to ignore...and the part of this that is completely heartless (yet accurate)...is that the quality of life of the vast majority of those losing their lives from this isn't worth sacrificing the livelihood of hundreds of millions of people. And it's not worth the long-term economical effects. That sucks to say and type...but it's reality. Take precautions and move on.

I believe we are saying the same thing lol. Point is, 8% unemployment rate doesn't mean the other 92% are working.

Please stop saying this. It's not true.
It is absolutily true,,,,on Feb 29 Fauci said “the masks sold at drugstoresarent even good enough to truly protect anyone” from the same interview “Now, in the US there is ABSOLUTILY no reason whatsoever to wear a mask”

And
On February 29, US Surgeon General Jerome Adams sent out the following tweet from his official Twitter account: “Seriously people- STOP BUYING MASKS! They are NOT effective in preventing general public from catching #Coronavirus, but if healthcare providers can’t get them to care for sick patients, it puts them and our communities at risk!”

That’s the two top scientists working for the govt telling people back at the first of March that we should not be wearing masks

Lie to yourself if it makes you hate Trump more but that’s the truth

Did the European countries seeing a massive surge fail as well? Or is it more likely that it is a very contagious virus and it will just have to run its course??

Measles is exponentially more contagious than covid19 and we got that figured out and stopped. We have infinitely more and better technology now than we had back then. Mortality rates are now less than 2% because of drugs and treatment. I honestly believe within 3 months we will be immunizing millions of Americans and stop this thing.

The scientific method allows, no, requires that when you get new and better (and more) information you change your stance, recommendations, hypotheses, and/or theories. So, the information that was known on February 29th (not even a year ago) has changed, and so, commensurately, the recommendations changed. They could change again as more and better information is discovered and as treatments evolve.

Also, we shouldn't ignore what the Surgeon General (appointed by the president) was actually saying here (again, at the time he said it in February). He was saying (in February) that the general public shouldn't be buying masks en masse because it causes shortages in healthcare where their exposure is greatest.

The president's importance in this is truly negligible.

Can you please provide a source that claims measles is exponentially more contagious than COVID-19?

I agree you are a fool if you don’t adapt to new evidence.

But blaming Trump because he didn’t listen to scientist back early on is just wrong. Nobody understood what the hell was going on. He was being blamed for shutting down travel of people coming back into the country from infected areas for God’s sake

I don't know if it qualifies as "exponentially" or not, but the CDC reports the R0 for measles is as high as 18; it's estimated to be 2.4 for COVID. So measles is definitely a lot more contagious than COVID.

Interestingly, the R0 for flu is about 1.1, so COVID is more than twice as infectious/contagious as flu.

This is from CDC website detailing measles transmission

other people breathe the contaminated air or touch the infected surface, then touch their eyes, noses, or mouths, they can become infected. Measles is so contagious that if one person has it, up to 90% of the people close to that person who are not immune will also become infected.

If the Coronavirus was half as contagious as the measles we would have millions of people dead.

People who had measles or smallpox would be physically quarantined in their homes. If everyone in the house died it was then burned with them inside to try to stop the spread.

If one kid in a classroom had measles then they were all going to come down with it. The “antivaxers” are just clueless

I have empathy for all of them. It all sucks. But are you really comparing a year of subpar education and losing a job to people dying or surviving and having long-term effects?? They aren't equal.

If our dear leader had just admitted this was serious in March and not made it political (you're an idiot if you really think he took it seriously), then the effects mentally, financially, economically, and health-wise would be FAR LESS. I'm not a fan of people acting like we should have had zero deaths. Not realistic. But he botched this and most people think this way. It's why he's going to lose the popular vote by 10-12 million next week.

Did our "dear leader" Inflate the numbers of positive covid test in Florida and Texas to create fear and anarchy? no that was the corrupt media and politicians making it political. If you can seriously deny that this was not made to be bigger to effect the election then you are crazy.

Did our "dear leader" not shut down the borders to keep people coming in from China and other countries? Yes. What else did you want him to do? Every keeps saying he did nothing and this is his fault. He took flip flopping Fauci's advice until he realized the dude has no clue and can't make up his mind.

The only way Trump loses is going to be voter fraud. Which was another big part of this whole pandemic. Mail in ballots will be one of the biggest clusters in election history and cause so many recounts that we won't know who is actually president until January and once the democrats have found enough random votes for Biden that probably didn't exist until they fraudulently created them.

He didn't entirely shut down travel from China like he would have you believe, just enacted restrictions. Around 50,000 people traveled from China to America in the couple of weeks following his "ban". So the only thing he claims he did to reduce the spread is.... not even completely factual.

If you really think voter fraud is a threat or real, you have just been radicalized too much to be reasoned with. It has been disproven many times. The instances of "fraud" that Don and Don jr. won't shut up about are isolated incidents that are mostly caused by clerical error....

Here's some sources debunking voter fraud so you can stop sounding dumb.

Have a good day.
You both realize that none of this matters now, right?

"The White House Science office lists "ending the COVID-19 pandemic" as one of the top accomplishments for Trump!" Case closed! Its all over!

I mean he lost the popular vote last time and our demographics as a country haven't changed since then?

we don't use the popular vote to elect our president, you know that right?
Correct but if demographics change, people move it is possible the electorate could come up with a different result than last time which would match the will of the people without voter fraud being involved right?

We don’t hold elections at the national level. All elections are at the state level and I don’t see where any persons vote in Missouri carries any more weight than mine??

That is the exact disingenuous answer I expected. We do vote for a president in a national election, regardless of who the entity is holding the election. Your vote proportionately counts for more than another American citizen's vote in California (et al) and less than a person's in Montana (et al) precisely because of the electoral college system. Go, Hawklets.

People in California vote on who they want to be president, most votes gets their electors. Is it so hard to understand that we are a Republic and not a democracy??

If you don’t like the electoral college system that much then push through a constitutional amendment to do away with it!!!

California gets 53 electors based on its population ( 1 for every 745,471 people)

Montana gets 1 elector for its 1,069,000 people.

So actually the voters of California are over represented compared to Montana

If you look at my neighborhood in Idaho, Californians are gaining ground at an alarming rate.

This!

This is why we need to build a wall around California. Keep them out of our country!!!

My 96-year-old aunt who lives in Hagerman, Idaho told me the same thing when I went to visit her last year. The native Idahoans (is that a thing?) would much rather their new neighbors adapt to Idaho’s ways rather than bring and force their California values on those who were already there. Immigrants! Geez...

Oh, and go Hawklets!

Once Texas turns blue in 2028 or '32, it will be the Republicans who are clamorimg for a national popular vote and the Dems who will defend the EC.
