Playing as one of the smaller schools inA WC guy and I was just talking about this last night. He said they are playing the same offense.
You mean recruited away from Webb City? The tables have turned.I heard kids are relocating to Nixa and Joplin
Does WC have a QB up to that task? They had a ton of injuries last season and it seemed they was going through QBs and RBs like water so we never got a good look.Playing as one of the smaller schools in
class 5 you would think they would mix a little more passing game into the game plan if they have the ability to throw it. It seems like they will have a much harder time with the guys up front playing against the bigger schools.
I can't imagine he will change anything either. The new coach played there and has several years of coaching there, he knows it inside and out. I can't imagine him or anyone would change up a bunch of things unless something is legit broke.
People aren't leaving Webb City. In fact yet another co-worker of mine just moved in from Joplin bc his oldest kid is about to start school. You mean recruited away from Webb City? The tables have turned.
Isn't that one of the points of running the veer though? To neutralize a size disadvantage? Playing against larger schools is not new to WC, they were doing this long before bumping to C5.Playing as one of the smaller schools in

Yes, I thought that was the rationale for the academies all running some version of it.Isn't that one of the points of running the veer though? To neutralize a size disadvantage? Playing against larger schools is not new to WC, they were doing this long before bumping to C5.
Not sure they had the freshman that was really quick that played some and a junior that they would bring in when they were going to pass but he didn’t play a bunch so not real sure.Does WC have a QB up to that task? It has shown in the past that when they can’t dominate up front and they have to pass it is a struggle to move the ball effectively. So I was thinking that with a new coach they might try to balance the attack a bit.Yes, I thought that was the rationale for the academies all running some version of it.
On the other hand, I always felt that Webb's success was attributable to the dominating play of their lines and just wearing teams down. Sometimes dominating meant playing a really good, maybe even superior, opposing individual to a standstill and letting the skill people do the rest.
Their dedication to the weight room was evident and their technique was outstanding. Today, a lot of other teams have that same level of preparation so different story. AND, you cannot underestimate that the COC is a really good conference.
Totally agree with your assessment. It has shown in the past that when they can’t dominate up front and they have to pass it is a struggle to move the ball effectively. So I was thinking that with a new coach they might try to balance the attack a bit.
It wasn't necessarily "normal" but it wasn't unusual either. I believe the last was 2017. They won state again in 2019 but had a loss to Joplin. Seems like in the past any state champion team was also undefeated because regular season losses were all but unheard of. I think the COC is just a lot more competetive now than it was 2000-2015. I think part of what we're seeing now could be the reality of what happens if larger schools dedicate comparable efforts to weights, programs, good coaching, getting all the best kids to play, things that used to set WC apart but are becoming more common now. When was the last time Webb went undefeated? It seems like that was a normal occurrence in the past.
Also just to clarify I'm not suggesting WC won more games back in those years because their schedule was easy. They scheduled some very tough non-con opponents. Won some, lost some. Some of the teams WC had in that era were off the charts good. The COC was decidedly easier though and prior to that the SWC was not even close. It wasn't necessarily "normal" but it wasn't unusual either. I believe the last was 2017. There have been no undefeated team since 2017 by any COC school. Here are the last undefeated in regular season COC's though:
WC in 2018 (lost in semis I think to Ladue)
Joplin in 2019 (lost in championship game to Desmet)
Carthage in 2021 lost in district final to state champion Webb City who had losses to Joplin, Nixa and Carthage.
*Carthage was technically undefeated in 2020 but did not play WC.
Last year Republic stole an undefeated COC from Nixa in OT. And Carthage could have nabbed it if Nixa's 2pt conversion had failed in their game. The COC was really tough last year and it wasn't one of WC's strongest teams, they were plagued with injury among other things but they still managed a very respectable finish by anyone else's standards.
After the teams around them started keeping some talent? When was the last time Webb went undefeated? It seems like that was a normal occurrence in the past.
Also, check their record vs classes 5 and 6. It’s more than just ok.Isn't that one of the points of running the veer though? To neutralize a size disadvantage? Playing against larger schools is not new to WC, they were doing this long before bumping to C5.

You've said a mouth full there, my friend.I think part of what we're seeing now could be the reality of what happens if larger schools dedicate comparable efforts to weights, programs, good coaching, getting all the best kids to play, t
Actually 4th grade but my son can’t even play QB because little jimmy’s dad won’t let him but he is the best anywhere around according to his personal speed coach and his personal qb training coach and is one of the best in the region according to the coaches at all the regional camps we pay to go to. Alabama and Clemson both are already looking at him.Ooohhhh. I get it now. Your comments all make sense. Your 5th grade son wants to sling the ball around the yard because that’s what he sees on TV, and you’re wondering if you should be shopping him around to some of the nearby schools.
You mean the player had a health issue?Webb has lost 2 big players but has nothing to do with the coaching changes. One for safety and one bc team expectations which i won't get into here.
I know of the one for safety reasons and that is a substantial loss. Probably the most athletic kid in his class. I haven’t heard of the other one, that is interesting.Webb has lost 2 big players but has nothing to do with the coaching changes. One for safety and one bc team expectations which i won't get into here.
Some people were whispering behind the scenes that maybe the party was over but in reality it was just that the class of 1999 was kind of a turd in terms of athletes aside from a couple standouts.I have seen Webb sling it around a bit, when they have the kids that could execute it. They even do it in youth, and yes I have seen teams in youth run different offenses at times.
I find it funny that Webb had a bit of a down season "for them" and remember many coaches would love to finish as they did, and people are already starting to dig the grave and etch the grave stone.
It will be interesting to see what the new coach does, but I still remember the year they went 5-5 and many started digging thier grave then, John while he had won early was still young and unproven, many were ready to run him out of town, but Webb came thru that okay and even stronger, many forget that period because they have been so successful for so long.
I'm sure I liked life much better before social media. Some people were whispering behind the scenes that maybe the party was over but in reality it was just that the class of 1999 was kind of a turd in terms of athletes aside from a couple standouts.
One thing that is different vs 1998 is now you've got a lot of move-ins, people who sold and bought homes, in some cases convincing a spouse to leave a beloved hometown - for their kids sports endeavors. People with a lot of skin in the game, people with expectations far beyond what was the case in the 1990s. Maybe that won't be a factor but I think it will be.
Plus there is social media. I just think a mediocre season or two early on for McFarland would be a lot uglier for him than the 12 months during and after Roderiques 5-5 team were for him.
I hate social media so much. I can't even imagine what it's like to be a teenager now. It just seems awful.I'm sure I liked life much better before social media.

I was really looking forward to seeing him destroy people....and the matchup with the 6'8 tackle from Nixa. Oh wellIt was easy to figure out who left. It's a very good thing for offensive lines around the COC.
