New era in Webb City football starts now.

They are now growing faster than Nixa and Ozark, they might still be a few years away. But wow have they grown every time you drive thru there a new business is being built. They are adding a lazy river to thier already huge water park and other great amenities, Really growing into a nice place to live or move too.
As a dad to a 3 yr old born with fins and gills…that water park is worth the 25 or so minute drive every once in a while. Place is SWEET. And CROWDED.

I can't say it isn't an intriguing town, being both my spouse and I can work remote.... I would like to see our community do some of the things they are, we do have a nice water park that is attached to our YMCA so you can swim both indoors and outdoors. But things like that can help grow a community. They also seem to get a lot of support for the schools. They have built two new football fields I think in the last 15 or so years.

Gotta love a crowded water park. We have a fantastic crowded water park out here in sunny, southern Cali. It's called the beach!
Yeah and those beaches can suck... From oil spills to floating debris, the Pacific Ocean off California’s coastline has endured much hardship. The consequences of these events have left some people hesitant to even step foot in the water at some Golden State beaches.

Last time I went to Santa Monica pier looked at the water and walked the beach for miles southward NO WAY I'd get in that water never mind how cold it tends to be.

Did devrin weathers transfer to another school?
Last fall I checked the Kansas State roster for him and did not see his name. I didn’t think anything about it at the time and figured someone here would explain eventually.
Would like to know where he is and what he’s doing. Kid was immensely talented and I thought he could have played both football and baseball at the collegiate level if he was at the right school.

2. DJ: Kansas State running back DJ Giddens has a clearer path to playing time with Devrin Weathers no longer with the team.

Saw something interesting. Going through mssu baseball roster and he is listed on it as a kstate transfer for the 2024 cycle. Looks like he is playing for darnell.

7 guys from Webb on MSSU baseball team
Webb has a chance at becoming a baseball school. 12 u teams went to indy this year and should have went to williamsport last year. And the two covid 12 u ages that didnt get a tourney went 70-5 or something like that as freshmen the last two years. All started by darnell when he coached webb.

Baseball still needs to get some things tweaked at Webb in order for them to truly get to the next level. Yes, it is possible that eventually they could be a diamond dynasty.

Why would anybody want to become a snoozer of a sport school....
I don't know but that is the way things seem to be going there. The baseball program is drawing in a lot of people. I know several people who have moved there recently *for baseball* and a couple others that quit football to focus on baseball.

And WC is certainly one of the best in this area for sure but it's not even close to what football has been over the last 20+ years. They've won a handful of districts and made it to the final four last year but the history isn't even remotely comparable to football. But that could change because kids are really buying into baseball there.

The thing with baseball is that it doesn't draw the crowds and community interest in the same way football does on Friday nights. And unlike football where you may have 150 kids participating (at least on paper), in baseball you need a dozen. Outside of the small group of players and their families and maybe some families with upcoming kids, that's about all you're going to see at a baseball game. And that won't change even if they start bringing home state championships. People will say 'yay the baseball team won state' and maybe have a parade but they won't start showing up at games like they do for football right now.

Didn't the Webb City welcome sign used to say, Move in for all your Little League Baseball needs and stay for the football? They have had a rich history of producing some pretty darn good Little League teams over the years.

The incoming Jrs had a tourney, they went to Indy. The incoming sophomores didn't get an opportunity for a chance to go to PA! Lots of talent in both of those classes when it comes to baseball.

I was talking to a 3rd grade parent and asked why he wasn't playing football this year after he had already signed up. His parents told me his travel team coach and his private lessons coach told them if he wants a place on the high school team he needs to concentrate solely on baseball. I hear more parents telling me that they are always getting bombarded by travel Baseball coaches to be taking private lessons that can cost up to $100 a session all year. And many of these guys giving lessens are little league washouts.

Baseball and I will include softball, is out of control in terms of time and costs. They are killing the sport as they drive more and more kids out of being able to play by creating elitist travel teams that can cost just $2,000- $5,000 to join and that does not include the lessons travel and hotel cost. The summer leagues are suffering and numbers are dwindling as they take more out of that and into high cost travel teams.

Baseball coaches are more than likely to tell a kid to concentrate on only their sport more than any other sport. Our baseball coaches only coach Baseball they cannot even coach another sport or refuse. They don't encourage their players to be well rounded athletes. Worst coaches ever at any level!!! And parents do all of this for what? maybe a $1,000 a semester scholarship to a local college. crazy.... Rant over.

Building on that. We could always pick the baseball players and coaches out in college bc they were all stuck up assholes.

Agree totally. Baseball has become totally insane and elitist. I hear some of my friends talk about it and it just sounds totally bonkers - and their end game isn't even a college gig, it's just to play on the HS team. I have a friend who will have spent the equivalent of a college education on his kids youth baseball by the time they graduate.

Volleyball is kind of the same way although it's not nearly as expensive, doesn't require much gear, and it's not as time consuming. But some coaches and trainers in that sport are pushing the same do this and only this all year. And you have basically zero chance of making the team in many high schools if you don't do private lessons and do club in the off season.

Good, truthful rant!

In my daughters class at CJ there were girls whose parents spent thousands on teams and lessons who were still on the volleyball B team in Junior High.

Same at Carthage. That's probably the most difficult sport to get into at many schools due to the level of interest and small roster.
