New era in Webb City football starts now.

Building on that. We could always pick the baseball players and coaches out in college bc they were all stuck up assholes.
It's so funny that you say that because in college my friends and I had a special disdain for the baseball players. Football, basketball, hockey, you name it they were all pretty fun and nice. But there was something about the baseball players... they'd roll up to a party acting like Joe Cool wearing mirrored sunglasses indoors at night, then take over the music with the latest Nickelback album. Then mostly talk about which St Louis area private school they went to.

Volleyball at our school is crazy. They plop down over a thousand for club ball. That doesn't even cover uniforms or travel or whatever the heck. I know travel baseball is expensive. I had seven kids at home, now down to two. There is no way I could afford that till I got down to these two.

Agree totally. Baseball has become totally insane and elitist. I hear some of my friends talk about it and it just sounds totally bonkers - and their end game isn't even a college gig, it's just to play on the HS team. I have a friend who will have spent the equivalent of a college education on his kids youth baseball by the time they graduate.

Volleyball is kind of the same way although it's not nearly as expensive, doesn't require much gear, and it's not as time consuming. But some coaches and trainers in that sport are pushing the same do this and only this all year. And you have basically zero chance of making the team in many high schools if you don't do private lessons and do club in the off season.
My fav are the dads and ten yr olds that post social media pics of their rings from the “National championship” tournament they won. That more than likely took place in like Pacific or Chesterfield. Bonus points if they make said pic their profile pic. Baseball parents are completely insufferable. Followed closely by soccer parents. I get all all to close look at that one. I will at least say for soccer folks, they don’t tend to overreact about a tournament W and try to sell it as a world championship event. We do, however, feel the need to travel 300 miles to play the same god?@$&! talent level we could play within a 20 mile radius of our own community though. That part is super fun.

I’d kill for a club fee of around $1000.

Preach on Men!

Not to mention all these f'in gate fees! $15-20 a day at many volleyball and basketball tournaments. Yet I can go to a MSHSAA game for $5. You know they will try to give you that 1 Friday game as well to really screw with you.
And Stay to Play Policies. While all the tournament directors get kickbacks from their choice hotels forcing you into a $200 a night hotel, when Drury Inn gives me a free breakfast and dinner (and drinks) for a little over $100.

Why haven't municipalities figured a way to fight back with meaningful competitive leagues where you play other leagues at some point? Sounds like the future of college sports with the pod system.

Our local youth softball ball and baseball board tried to do Babe Ruth we got some local towns to join in created the pod system it was fun. and for awhile it was working. But, slowly a few batting lessons turned into traveling teams and then the whole thing fell apart as kids again left to go play on travel teams.

A WC dad was joking to me kind of about this. He said the whole winning LL state thing is (in his opinion) way over played. According to him Little League is dwindling in popularity and there aren't that many teams doing it and it's not where the best competition is found. But WC sticks with it because it presents the best opportunity for making headlines and creating buzz and that's what kids and parents want.

That's a true statement. And a very 2023 approach by Webb.

to me the Little league is in a way what sports should be all about. It should be your kids from your community just doing the best they can. Not an all-star team made up of kids from a 200 mile radius that are probable doing it so Mom and dad can rub elbows with other moms and dads who they think are worthy.

Its not really a coverage thing here. Its more a "my kid sucks and cant make a travel team so i will make my own" so there are 7 from every town.

I agree with you but that isn't how it is now. There are a lot of different reasons but probably the most common is that certain kids and parents think they are better (and sometimes they are) and want to group with others who are also better.

Another thing I learned recently that I am not sure I believe but maybe someone here can confirm. I was told that Webb City does NOT have a Jr High baseball team. It's a private club/travel team that is technically unaffiliated with the school that is used to feed the High School. So to play in HS you have to try out for this specific travel team in Jr High and that is where they get their HS players from.

Correct

I am not sure if any schools in the Joplin area have junior high baseball.

Neosho … a few others are in talks about adding junior high baseball. I believe Carl Junction had at the minimum exploratory conversations in prelude to full blown research into it and opted not to at this point, could change in the future.

Wow talk about being in the stone ages what the hell COC!! Big 8 has had junior high baseball for several years now. And yes Seneca does along with Mac County and Nevada all big 8 Schools.

Being a former softball parent here is my take.
Sometimes the better kids, not because they are better, but because they share the same passion and love of the game with other players and are friends because of that want to be on the same team. And is that really should you punish kids because they are good and friends? When I coached you could pick up to 4 players then let the other coaches draft until it was even, but sometimes a Team gets stacked...just happens, because sometimes a coach doesn't know the kids when they are picking, again they are picking their kids friends.

That is sad that Webb cannot afford to field a Junior high baseball team. We have had one several years in Monett I think everybody in the Big 8 Does. @BoosterBosko our Booster club even paid to get the field done for the junior high team.

Alot of schools don't have Jr high softball or baseball. Why would you when most kids are out there playing ball almost year round. Heck, Savanah has a Jr high football team then usually 2 bantam teams of Jr high kids. The bantam pick the studs then the rest go Jr high

Does WC have a QB up to that task? They had a ton of injuries last season and it seemed they was going through QBs and RBs like water so we never got a good look.
It looks like they are lucky enough to have two that look to be up to the task!

I'm probably in the minority here . But I think #8 the senior is a better fit for what they need and the soph needs to play wr mostly this year . Feel like the best drives against nixa #8 was the QB . I think he has the better feel for the offense and probably throws better . #3 should always be on the field bc he's crazy explosive. Next two years are all #3

I agree with your assessment here. Maybe it is just me but the offense feels calmer and a little more under control when #8 is taking the snaps. However I agree 100% that #3 needs to be on the field as much as possible because the kid is very explosive.

Yeah I think the sr has a better feel for the game and the offense runs a bit smoother under him but #3 need to be taking snaps at wr , RB , wildcat formations etc . I understand why they are doing what they are tho bc #3 is a home run threat at all times . Last year it kinda annoyed me bc I felt like #3 wasn't ready for it as a freshman. This year I get it but still think #8 is the way to go and use #3 as a swiss army knife
