Let's take a deep dive into Class 2

District 7 is up for grabs, but I still think Lafayette County should be the favorite. They graduated 6 seniors that earned all-state honors last year, so its no surprise that they have taken a step backwards. The 1-2 start is more an indication of a tough schedule. Lawson is for real, and Moberly is a border line class 3/4 school. I expect Higginsville will hit their stride once the conference schedule starts to heat up. District 8 will be a dogfight between Lawson and Lathrop, and possibly Lexington. The problem with Lexington is the same problem that they face every year. They feast on class 1 opponents during the regular season, and then get punched in the mouth once the real season begins.
Lexington beat Quincy Notre Dame Week 1. Not exactly a MO Class 1 opponent. Just saying............

My sleeper for Class 2 is Knob Noster.

I’m not saying they’re going to win state or anything like that, the district winner they would have to play if they make the playoffs would come out of the “super-district” up north.

But I think they’re going to turn some heads this year and is definitely not the Knob Noster of Years past
They will certainly have their say once MRVC East play gets underway. This, if true (I kinda mentioned them a couple of weeks ago), would be a great story.

Knob is definitely a team to watch in 7.

Ok, fine . Lexington beat Quincy Notre Dame. The 319th ranked team in the state of Illinois (0-3). Their first three opponents have a combined record of 1-8. I'm not saying Lexington is not a good team. They should be the favorites to win the MRVCE. I'm just saying that they aren't doing themselves any favors with their weak scheduling. District 8 is no joke. BTW, I don't think Knob Noster is going to sneak up on anybody. The buzz around that team has been building with each week. Definitely one to watch.

Yikes I figured with him making that point they would be a top 100 team in the state at least. Oof.

Lamar, LN and Blair Oaks are a step ahead of everyone right now. Someone might step up and contend with one of them. But right now I haven't seen anyone in the CCC that would contend with BO or Lamar.

District 8: Can't speak of Lawson, Lathrop, or Lexington but Macon is playing good football & looks the part. Brookfield has a stout defense, will be a tough matchup for a run heavy team

District 6: 3 way race between Palmyra, Monroe, & Clark.... thoughts on how the winner of D6 stacks up to Blair Oaks?
I don't think any of those teams would stack up very well at all to Blair Oaks. Blair Oaks was a Class 3 semifinalist last year and maybe would have been again this year.

I say that, but after looking over the rankings and results, unless Monroe City falls out (unlikely), not sure where Macon would fit in. Might be left out of the top 10 again.

Macon is a quality team, at this point they need to be ranked higher than anyone in CCC

I got to see Kearney vs Staley, Liberty vs Liberty North and I’m looking forward to attending the Lathrop vs Lawson game in week 6.
I'm torn between this huge one in Lathrop (get there early BTW due to seating unless you prefer to stand) and another one in Smithville.

Smithville has their own YouTube channel in High Def. Find it one of the best broadcast outthere.

Watch on your phone while at Lathrop.

District 8 is becoming a little more clear. I would say that Lexington losing to Holden is not a good sign. I figured Lexington would get a wake up call eventually, but I didn't figure it would be this soon. They need to play a tougher non conference schedule. Judging by how Moberly blew out Macon, I would say that Macon isn't a front runner either. Higginsville gave Moberly a far better game, yet they were thrashed by Lawson. Lathrop is still an unknown due to their weak schedule. Next week's game will tell the story. Either way, I feel like Lawson and Lathrop are the class of district 8, and it's not nearly as close as alot of us thought. Just my humble opinion.

I'll predict it now. The last coach (Holt) to beat Lamar in playoffs will do it again.

Blair Oaks beats Lutheran North on other side of bracket.

Blair Oaks over Lathrop in Columbia.

Note: Think i have my district alignments right

Maryville in 09(still hurts)
At mrh in 10
Beat mrh at home in 11 to start the streak

I think they lost to Maplewood in the semis twice after Maryville. One of the Lamar faithful would need to confirm.

It was Maplewood. And only once. They shortly after that stopped the football program. The kids went and played elsewhere.
