Actually never been a Trumper but of you are trying to make the case that Biden is doing fine you are going to have to Build better on that…
Putting some perspective in place.

Trump was the holy father to GOPers.

Do polls matter?

Only the ones in November.

He has handled Afghanistan poorly no doubt. The border crisis wasn't pretty.
But like always "It's the economy stupid."
It will come down to messaging. Are they going to be able to hold the Republicans accountable for the spending spree or is the debt ceiling going to become an albatross around the neck of Biden? It really is that simple.

Yep the trumpers don't realize we need to increase the debt limit due to trump spending like a drunken sailor.

We should start by repealing the Trump tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations, and close their loopholes and tax shelters. It infuriates me no end to see reports like the recent one claiming the 25 wealthiest Americans pay little or no personal income tax.

Poll numbers don't matter. Biden is a one term president regardless of numbers. DNC will not nominate a 82 year old for president in '24. Dems pushed Joe in 2020 because he was the only chance of beating Trump. His job is to keep the bus out of the ditch.

Meanwhile, Trump is running and his news keeps getting worse.

60% of American households paid no federal income tax in 2020. Only the upper middle class and wealthy are paying taxes as it is. Everyone needs to pay their fair share not just the wealthy

That will never pass muster.....everyone believes the 1% should pay all the taxes.

You really want to compare the people don't enough money that they have to pay income tax to those that make billions and worm their way out of paying income tax? Tell us what is the the fair share of those making $20 thousand a year and the fair share of those making $200 million a year, or even those making $20 million a year.

What sucks is we will never be able to change all the loopholes and tax shelters that only the wealthy can take advantage.

I have a friend who is a multimillionaire business owner. He said it's unbelievable what his tax lawyers save him in taxes. He told me he writes off $70-80,000 per yr under entertainment expenses. Wines and dines at the finest restaurants. Fishing trips, golf trips, and college football games for 8-10 people, all expenses paid. I've been on a couple trips with him - everything first class and tax deductible. I could get use to that lifestyle.

Is "everyone pay their fair share" a myth ?

The po folks are going by current tax laws, they don't have a team of lawyers to keep the from paying income tax, they just don't owe any due to their income level.

I’m not a big fan of high taxes but the current system of based on income not wealth. There are people making 200k a year paying more taxes than people with “old money”.
I love the rhetoric of millionaires and Billionaires like the are the same thing. Politicians want you to believe Bezos, Gates and the Koch bros are going to play all the taxes. What happens is all the small businesses that hire people foot the bill as do people actually working. Classic bait and switch.

I could have sworn in junior high civics class they taught us that only Congress has "The Power of the Purse" and can spend money???

A perfect example of how stats can be misleading. Only 58% of US population work full time. 22% of US population is under 18 ys old, 17% is over 65. Neither group contains many full time workers. That brings the % down to 22% of Americans that paid no taxes. Add the unemployed, stay at home moms, the disabled, imprisoned, homeless, etc.

A more relevant stat would be how many full time employees paid no taxes.

The article said 61% of HOUSEHOLDS paid no federal income taxes. not individuals

about 60.6 percent of households did not pay income tax, up from 43.6 percent of households in 2019.

Darn it why do you keep doing that …household versus individuals. Give them a pass we all make mistakes when analyzing stuff.

More details on that plan. Does that include food, rent, gas etc.??

Only for the person collecting the rent. Well except for all the tax deductions the property owner gets.

They pass that on to the tenant......Will the landlord not have to pay on his first 50K.....will he not pass that on to the tenant. Just curious on how all the details would work out.

It that a 50k gov check to pay for the sales tax as a offset or is it going to be that the sales taxes are tracked and not paid at point of sales...how would you even track that on a national scale? And What type of gov./state infrastructure would be needed to do that and How would you track items that people might barter under the radar, black markets, goods that could be smuggled across the Mexican and Canadian border. Oh you couldn't and believe me the black market business would thrive. Organized crime/Cartels would move quickly into that and I think even most normal Americans would have zero issue in jumping on board.

Things are never simple and things never work like people claim because the angles and grey area's are never, ever given much thought. I mean if a person was upper middle class they could hire and pay the poor and homeless to buy their stuff to avoid paying taxes on big items or any items. Or the real rich could just delve into the black market whole sale.....A lot of them control shipping and distribution anyhow. They could easily avoid paying sales tax on things and it would even be harder to find this out....

I'm not against it per say but it won't be cut and dried straight up like you seem to think it will be....Clearly A under ground economy would quickly spring up there is no doubt in that.

I 100% understand your idea...I just don't think it would work any better than the current model or it might even work in a less efficient manner.

Here is what the Brookings think tank thinks of the idea....the are usually seen a pretty center as think tanks go.

Older article but still addresses all the issues with a National Sales tax....

The article in very clear terms pointed out why it would be hard to collect, enforce and why it would not be a better system.

Just taking one of their points and a example.... how hard would it be for retailers not to report inventory sales and not pay taxes on it. Back in the day media outlets use to deal in trade......trading adverts and other goods and services for other goods and services. It was pretty sweet....my EX was the traffic director of a Major Radio station and nope traffic director had nothing to do with Vehicle traffic she did the billing/books. And literally as part of her pay off the books avoiding payroll taxes and all sales tax....we got free gas, tickets to games, restaurants vouchers, free plumbing services etc. It was sweet and easy to do this. Keeping inventory and sales off books with collusion is not complicated and is done pretty often today even.

Jeez let's just say I know a cattle farm who bought a crap ton of cattle feed from their supplier off the books back in the summer. Cash and equipment transaction for the feed that was supposed to be tainted(lol)and destroyed, but was delivered and fed. What was saved in taxes paid for commish etc.

Sales taxes are collected by those doing the selling. Do you not think that major corporations, medium sized business and small business and individuals are not going to work the system to their advantage. To do other wise would be bad business and ignorant. The collusion would be massive and wide spread. Enforcement would be near impossible and a waste of time.

It's amazing that you think that the honor system would work and not be laughed and scoffed at by everyone in business and a lot of consumers. Sure some naive rubes would adhere to the letter of the law, the smart and successful people would do the wise thing and work the system.

How do we collect sales taxes now if it is so easy (as the article claims) to avoid paying them?
A lot of sales tax isn't collected.....a whole lot of it. Income tax is much easier to tax than a national sales tax.

You mean she is bad at standing behind the president when he's talking in tv?
She is in control of the immigration situation....and it appears to be a Cluster fudge. Most People want legal and orderly immigration with a controlled and limited rate. But what we have is a open wave of people we don't want or need. Which is upsetting....and on the other side of the isle you have the Leftist Progressives who want open boarders and feel she is not moving toward that. So yep nobody is happy with her.

Just read her five pillars she used to address the border.

Tell me who has had what you're talking about in the last 50 years? Oh wait I guess the 'conservative' hero Ronald Reagan did when he gave millions of them amnesty. 🤔
