Jackson/Webb ???

I was there Webb looked beatable. If Lebanon was even remotely competent on offense? They wouldn’t have won. If a hitch n pitch wasn’t working they couldn’t do a thing.
MIght have had something to do with Webbs defense playing much better than they were the first half of the year ??

When a team is 58-5 over a five year span I doubt its all because of a cupcake schedule

JRod will probably have the boys practicing on Turkey Day they will be as ready as they can be

I think Webb fans get a bad rap because there are so many of them and with numbers (and winning) you have more of the bad apples. And with social media now even the mild mannered fans rub people's nerves with all the celebratory posting of this win or that streak statistic or just a general reminder how proud they are to be a cardinal (even thought they only moved there from Seneca or wherever 2 years ago). People, at least in this area just get fatigued hearing from Webb fans about winning. I doubt the rest of the state really cares much about Webb City. Heck I got tired of hearing about it even when I lived there.

I spent some time with a few friends, most from Webb over the weekend and they don't seem concerned about Jackson in the slightest. Maybe they know something I don't. Said their record is misleading due to their 'cupcake' schedule and they team they just beat (summit) isn't good "at all". Said something to the effect that whole side of the bracket is full of weak loser teams.

I also went to the game vs Lebanon and some of the crap I heard there makes me think there are more than a few fine folks in Cardinal nation that could benefit from losing a few more games before getting back on track!
Not saying I don't believe you, but I don't believe you! Webb fans (me included) know what kind of challenge they are up against! WC is the underdog and I think by a lot! They have to play their best game of the year and not turn it over. If they turn it over once, I think they will be in trouble! The way to beat WC is through the air and Jackson does that and does it well!

I thought Webb looked very beatable too for much of the game, in fact at one point I said to myself, how on earth did this team beat Carthage?

BUT then Lebanon's offense basically collapsed in the 3rd Q - or rather, Webb's defense just crushed them and I think they just kinda mentally checked out knowing how this story goes having seen in played out so many times before.

I agree with you, just saying what I heard. I was all "so yeah remember Jackson ran all over class 5 last year and took Carthage to OT the year before in the state championship". "Yeah but.... they play class 3 schools" . I don't know. The Webb dads at work seem to be concerned with Jackson as they were with Carthage. But some of the strangers at the game friday were off their rocker, or maybe just trying to stay warn with a little too much jack!

WC's biggest issue is with "fans" that have no idea what they are talking about and have no one in the program! I told coach Rod YEARS ago that he created a monster because some think that they should win every game because they are WC! The people in the program, coaches, parents and smart people know what is in front of them Friday!
Safe travels to those traveling to WC for the game, including Joplin fans!

Well apparently you don't cause the game is Saturday at 1:00

Lol, good catch
Jackson is a bit of a matchup nightmare for just about anyone . Their offense reminds me of a mash up of Joplin and Carthage ....one play they are running QB power with 3 guys pulling and leading the way ...the next they are holding the ball in the belly of the rb for 3 sec then popping a pass deep . Lots of rpo action witch is a form of triple option in a way . It would be a hard offense to run honestly but I think it's even harder to defend it . Their qb is accurate and makes good decisions . Line is big and physical. #5 and #11 are really good wr . #15 rb is slow but he's a load . You almost have to go man on the outside and hope your d line wins so linebackers can make the tackle . With alot of those rpo plays ..I don't understand how they don't get flagged for illegal man down field on a regular basis unless they only zone block . Jackson is really good and probably the only way to beat them in long sustained drives . They don't strike me as a team you wanna get in a shootout with. You gotta win the time of possession or get a big lead or it's gonna be rough on your d
Webb has a lot of momentum going for themselves. The ways things appear- Webb is supposed to roll over for Jackson. That is something I just don’t see happening. Being dogs and facing Goliath…I believe Webb is playing like they have something to prove…and they will have to play their ssesa off every down. I’m going with Webb for the win.

I've heard way too many times about how Jackson plays a "cupcake schedule" even famously by a Platte County player right after they beat Webb City last year. Even a Summit player last week in the paper commented how Jackson hadn't seen a defense like there's all season. Incidentally, Summit hadn't seen an offense even close to the capabilities Jackson had all season. We saw what happened.

I remember some clowns saying that last year about Jackson's "weak schedule" ..I can promise you nobody actually affiliated with WCHS is saying or thinking things like that . They fully understand the challenge and are embracing the underdog roll . They get the opportunity to play one final home game and intend to make the best of it win or lose . My best guess why anyone would say their schedule is weak is because there are no common opponents with this side of the state so it's a large unknown . What is known to anyone who has bothered to watch any film on Jackson is they are damn good on both sides of the ball and they will be crazy hard to beat

Summit hasn’t seen a defensive line and backers like Jackson either.

And all so a defensive line and backers like Jackson.
Jackson has a legacy of great linebackers. Last year’s all-state linebacker Bryce Norman was named second team all-conference linebacker by the Ohio Valley Conference this year. A true freshman at SEMO this year, he lead the team in tackles and is a finalist for the Jerry Rice award, recognizing the top FCS freshman in the country.

I’m a Jackson alumni and I won’t take anything away from Webb city. They’ve had a great program for many years granted all 4a up until last year but non the less a great program. I could only imagine the stats Jackson would have if they were still 4a that long. They got bumped to 5a around 97 I believe and have always had a good program. That being said coach Eckley has made major improvements in his tenure here. He’s built depth to the point that the youth league are running the same offense as the highschool so by the time those 3rd and 4th graders reach freshman they’ve been running the same offense as the highschool for 7 years. It’s amazing what he’s accomplished. Webb city has a great program and a great coach with a long tradition of winning and I was one of those people hoping to see them beat platt last year but it didn’t happen. I would love to see these two teams play In the regular season but it won’t happen because the distance just don’t make since. Having said all this I wish both teams the best of luck but I don’t see WC beating Jackson. Jackson is just too damn good and well rounded. They excel at every aspect of the game and have been nothing but dominate. I think it’ll be a great game and I’ll enjoy watching it but in my opinion…..Holt….we’ll see you at state!!!

I agree with everything you said except the possibility of seeing the two teams play in the regular season. Since Webb’s conference has 10 teams, none of those teams can play outside the conference until the playoffs. This weekend’s game is not only the first meeting but may be the only chance the two will ever meet again. However, I would love to see them play every year in the post-season. What an exciting thought is that?

I said I’d love to see it but know it’ll never happen. With conference and district games filling most schedules it don’t makes since to travel 3-4 hours for a game. I also have to correct myself. Jackson went 5a In 98. They went to state in 4a in 96 and 97 then got bumped up in 98

They couldn’t have gone to state in 4A in 97. Webb City beat North County in state in 4A by the score of 44-14. For what it’s worth, they didn’t go in 96 either. Excelsior Springs beat Camdenton 36-15 that year.

Jackson was there in ‘94 & ‘95.

Correct. They lost to Excelsior Springs 12-6 in 94 and lost to Camdenton 20-19 in 95.
Lost to Camdenton because they didn’t have a kicker. They have fixed that ever since. Grant Ressel kicked for Mizzou and hit 100% of his PAT attempts his soph. & sr. Years. Current kicker, Logan Bruns leads the entire state with 70 PATs, a 93% clip, and 65 touchbacks.

Your years are still wrong. They were 4A in 94 and 95 before it was discovered that they had reported incorrect enrollment numbers after going to the show me bowl two straight years.

I would love to read the “it was discovered” reporting. Where can I find that?

It was 27 years ago. I have no idea. But they got turned in to the state and busted.
In those days mshsaa didn’t use DESE numbers for enrollment. Numbers were turned into mshsaa by ADs. Jackson’s were not accurate and in 94 and 95 they should have been class 5. Once this was discovered they moved to class 5 in 96. It was a big story then. But it was before everything showed up on the Internet.

Webb looked beatable against Lebanon last week for they kept passing. If Webb would have ran their typical defense, it's no sweat. To me, that screams Webb was withholding from playing their normal game plan to not give too much away against Jackson. I do not see Webb passing that much on Saturday. Ground and pound, long sustained drives and Webb might be in it for a few more quarters than they think.

No, I've heard Jackson's weakness is the pass. I think Webb was making it a point to work on their passing game in preparation for this week. I think Dante Washington could get some shots.

If Jackson is to be beat - it would be with a very good passing team. If Webb just started working on it - get ready for a few interceptions. Just my opinion.

I only wish the MDC would finally recognize that their are mountain lions in Missourah, the travesty!
We saw one coming back from Omaha way back in 2008 was no mistaking it for anything else, either. At night in a field between Gower and the 169 bend toward Smithville.

Webb may have been class 4 all those years, but their schedule, with the exception of CJ, was all against class 5&6. And a couple class 7 games against Arkansas teams if I recall.

I have heard from multiple people who have kids playing that WC has been working on the pass basically since they lost to Carthage. Because in the mind of someone, Rod or others I don't know, their typical run heavy offense was not going to get the job done this year with the combination of personnel they had on the field and the competition they were going to face.

Now maybe this was just a way of trying to explain away their first ever loss to Nixa, but they said basically the strategy was to force the passing game through the remainder of the season with the understanding they may lose a game or two along the way but would be better positioned when the season was on the line and they found themselves trying to run into a wall.

You're an idiot
For thinking Webb seemed beatable? The horror. They did. Struggled for over a half to pull away from a beatable Lebanon team. These are facts bub. Veer left from me if you are type of fan that can’t handle criticism of your team. It’s moronic if you think that game went well in all phases. You just are.

Hope they beat Jackson. I like to cheer for local teams. But if they preform like that against Jackson they won’t win.

Good post and I like your humble-ness but the Webbies were doing what you said Jackson is famous for back in the late 80s under coach Kill, doing what you say Jackson has been doing since the late 90s under Eckley, and that's running the same offense from the 3rd grade up. Its not like Jackson is the only team in the state doing that - lol

Now, I think Jackson will win big on Saturady, personally. Webb is solid all around but they are vulnerable to the pass - Lebanon missed or dropped like 2-3 TD sure passes last friday nite. But you have to give cred where cred is due - the only teams i know back in the 80s who had aligned the same offense strait thru from 3rd to high school was Webb City and the Jeff City Jays.

Lebanon had 2 or 3 deep open TD passes dropped or barley overthrown. It would have changed things up a bit had they held onto those

I won’t pick Webb and won’t pick against. After seeing this team a couple times midseason (and by Rod’s own admission as quoted in the Globe) they were not a very good football team. If he pulls off this major upset Saturday, any affected with leprosy should ignore the MSHSAA rule, go on the field after the final whistle and see Coach Rod right away.

Seems apparent that Washington is Webb’s best athlete and they are doing what they can to get him touches. He gives them a big play threat every time he gets the ball. Not sure how Jacksons corners are but they’ll be tested with him.
