I am emailing today in regard to the last week of the legislative session. The Senate has created an omnibus bill that includes the language to allow home school students to come to their pubic school of residence, and participate in sports and activities. It prohibits the public schools from having requirements for these students, thus it sets up two standards for kids that participate, the ones in your building, and the ones that are home schooled. Further, it states that home school students shall participate.

(if nothing else ya gotta think it's pretty funny putting pubic instead of public. God bless the MSHSAA)

If that goes into effect, it may well end up in the courts...

So if your star player isn't eligible, can you send him home to mom for "homeschooling" and he's eligible again, since the public schools cant set up requirements for those kids but they're required to allow the homeschoolers to participate in sports?

Yep, what the heck they thinking. Must be a big money dude backing this. The part they must participate is interesting.

It’s being/been done in several states. It’s called the Tim Tebow Rule as it was instituted in Florida when he was a home-schooled high schooler.

Yes, if you want to play with public schools go to public school. I don't like the wording.

Washington state has the home school rule to allow them to play on school teams. Are the kids now classified as home schooled with the quarantine? That will make all kids eligible right?

I heard a rumor yesterday that everyone will be eligible in Missouri to play football in 2020. Even if you didn’t pass a class. Is that true?

I know alot of public school in stl are doing pass fail or no grade. I also know online attendance is not great. I can understand why they are doing it, but as usual it will have unintended consequences.

I know some schools are still enforcing their eligibility rules. MSHSAA simply allowed schools to wave the grade aspect of eligibility if they choose to.

Most of the flunkers won’t show up half the time and will cut themselves. It’s just having to deal with them at all, that sucks.

Actually, I kind of threw the take sports out of schools idea as a devil's advocate. But, I have to admit that it is something that I am beginning to believe may be an expense that the schools should no longer bear. The pressure on kids to be involved in a particular sport all year long is taking its toll and the demands on multi sport athletes is unbelievable and, I think, indefensible.

Different tiers of each sport, promotion, relegation, etc. like the European soccer leagues would be an interesting approach to American football.

We may see something like this as we have more and more of a hybrid education system. It really does have some intriguing possibilities.
