COVID Postseason Victims

And there's the horrible part of this thing. And your 64 yr old uncle passing away is that. It's awful. And he very well could be in the 30% grouping. But throwing out stats can't be replaced by human emotion. It's brutal, but it's also life...I'm like you, I wear the mask. I also question the effectiveness of it. But whatever. If it allows us to continue on, so be it at this point. There will soon be a day I can burn the damned thing and never wear it again...I hacked for a month after my first ever fight with influenza A. Upper respiratory viral infections are NASTY. I don't think anyone with half a brain would think otherwise. But the reason for statistics is to show this thing isn't really worth disrupting the lives of so many, especially kids and schools.
The horrible part is the people were stupid enough to have a public wedding in the first place

Don’t go around other people unless it’s 100% necessary

I truly hope that the remaining teams are able to get through the playoffs and championships. The outlook is not good as Kansas City hospitals are sounding alarms on near capacity. Several school districts in the area (Shawnee Mission and North Kansas City School District) are also sounding the alarm on student and staff safety. They are nearing "red zones" and could be going back to remote learning very soon.

Que the "I have had a respiratory infection and people just need to get over it" comments.

Interesting when facts and raw stats are looked at... Look at the bottom of page 6 of this report . Utilization rate of inpatient and ICU beds is increasing, but not because the number of patients is increasing, but because less beds are available. Where are the beds going???

There are definitely discrepancies in what is being reported. This article states that what is being reported is not accurate. For example, HCA Midwest (a for-profit system) would not respond to requests for information on their numbers, however, the larger area hospitals (St. Lukes, KU) are struggling with the numbers. It sounds like there are no real requirements to be transparent based on confusion from federal requirements.

An interesting snippet from the article addressing hospital beds:

Official data from the state appears to back him up. This week, the Department of Health and Senior Services’ COVID-19 dashboard showed that nearly half of hospital beds, more than a third of intensive care units, and two-thirds of ventilators are available for use.

But some hospital leaders argue this paints a false picture of where things stand.

Larsen says that the capacity bed counts typically include any overflow or surgical bed that has ever been available, regardless of whether it can realistically be used for treatment by trained health care workers.

“There’s a difference between a physical bed that’s physically available versus having a staffed bed that’s able to [provide] the level of acuity that we need,” Larsen says.

In the past two weeks, some hospitals in the Kansas City area have had to stop accepting ambulances and patient transfers from other facilities for periods of time due to capacity concerns.

Staff shortages. They can't count the beds they can't put patients in without

Kinda doubtful we get to finish the season all the way through. MSSU announced today that they will go virtual after thanksgiving break, and one of the local Joplin hospitals is reimplementing some of their prior more stringent COVID protocols and putting limits on visitors.

Agree... it's going to be hard for them to go another 3-4 weeks.
It’s about thousands of kids going home for Thanksgiving break and then returning back to campus with whatever they picked up from whomever they were around at the turkey get-togethers, and then having a major outbreak in early December (before returning home yet again for Christmas break).

Many colleges are doing it. Not a bad idea if the goal is to do various things to help slow the spread.

I understand why the colleges are doing it, but if you think those same people aren’t gonna have contact with kids in K-12 and then they bring it back into the school you must be kidding yourself. I personally don’t feel threatened by COVID but I also know it has some people concerned due to their pre existing health conditions. I want to finish the season, I’m just afraid MSHSAA will pull the plug before we get there if it gets any worse.

What makes you think I think that? Never said that...I know firsthand how contagious it is.

I don’t mind going on the record and saying this though, at least based on what has happened so far. I think we need to find common ground somewhere in the middle, in other words at this point no way I’d want to see things shut down or closed (including teams feeling like they must forfeit or seasons suddenly coming to a halt), but rather everyone stay smart and help to limit the exposure. Shouldn’t be necessary to go into all those details again around masks, social distancing, stay home if you have symptoms or may have been exposed, etc.

I think they can get there. After this weekend there will only be about 45 teams still playing. They might be able to get everything in before any type of flare up from holiday gatherings. Now that MSHSAA is in control of all games I wouldn't be surprised if they pull the plug on fans at any point and force fans to pay to watch it online. Which by the way is one of the lowest moves MSHSAA has ever made. They are literally taking advantage of the pandemic to make money. Hopefully it gets addressed at some point.

Is this new?.. Most Missouri Colleges announced they were going to do this before the School year even started.. I thought they were in the group, but I could be mistaken (it wont be the first nor the last time)

Ah...raw data. A blessing without agenda or bias, but so easily manipulated to skew a viewpoint.
Not a huge jump in thinking these hospital admins are singing this tune to advocate for stricter regulations in regards to masking/lockdowns. Why you ask? It seems these hospitals are struggling with revenue (no elective procedures) while also having limited space. I'll take my tin foil hate off now.

There will be more than 150,000 cases announced today nationwide and Missouri is in its worst shape yet with 4,000 cases a day. The flare up is here, man. This sucks.

What will the % test positive be?

It'll be the highest it's been since mid-May, thanks for asking! Two weeks ago, our nationwide percentage was around 5%, now it's at 9% and increasing dramatically! Cases are far outpacing testing. Missouri is around 20%, by the way.

And death rates?

As someone who works in a hospital, not really too concerned with death rates right now. Just trying to keep enough beds open for illnesses that are still happening that are not Covid related since the Covid patients are overwhelming our hospital. None of those Covid people may die, but someone who has a heart attack might if we can't treat them.

THIS!! This is the issue that should have everyone's attention!! Not the death rates from COVID.

President O'Biden will save us. Have faith and be a real American first, instead of a Trumpican.
Im neither...but I do wish Biden would cure this thing quickly. Then he can be found mentally unfit, Harris can take over, and the entire world can see just how batcrap the left is (full disclosure, I think the right is batcrap too).

Up to 3 out of 96 this week.

At this rate it will be it will be Kennett and Maryville for State in Class 3. The 2 team furthest from large populations.

As far as I know this was not announced prior, my daughter is an education major in her sophomore year. She’s had a difficult time with the classes being moved online because she feels the instruction is lacking and near impossible for some classes as they require in person hands on learning. She’s said she may take a year off if they don’t come back for spring semester.
