Class 1 Early Top 10

Why didn't they do well during a 10 year run, if they have that advantage?

By they didn't do well, you mean they didn't beat Ste Genevieve. To which I say THEY'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO BEAT STE GEN.

During that decade it isn't like they were going 0-10, they were still above average, just not 15-0 every year.

Do you have a problem with rich boosters supporting public school programs? Isn't that an unfair advantage to those programs who have no support?

if they pay for someone's out of district tuition I absolutely do.

They didn't beat SG because all the good players went to SG due to coaching then. If Valle had been 'back' then the best players would have played in class 1. Same last names right Kenny?

50-60 yrs ago Valle was as good as any team as there is now........unfortunately. They just celebrated the '64 team(year might be wrong) that didnt give up a single touchdown.

A lot of recruiting going on back then as well.
1966 team.....I went to school with a lot of the brothers and sisters of that team. I would put the school at about 250 students then.
Prior to Benson coming in the late 80's the other team to achieve some prominence was the 57/58 team that won the Catholic Athletic Conference. Nothing of significance that I recall until the 66 team.
Benson deserves all the credit for starting the winning ways. He left a string of coaches that followed the Benson way as head coaches moved on. That ended when John Bacon left about 1996. I think Bacon coached Judd. Can't recall who came in as head coach then but Valle fell on hard times until Judd showed up and resurrected the program. Initially some folks were unhappy when he didn't win soon enough but now he's entrenched and loves and believes in what he is doing. Hopefully for a long time.

Love it the "Benson Way". (Mark is my dad's brother.)

Sumner came in after Bacon. Absolutely a terrible coach. He was on their staff in the early 80's when Valle won. I guess Valle couldn't get anybody else to take the job.

Wasn't there a Palmer in there at some point as well?

The '01 Valle team may have been the most underachieving team they've ever had. They were athletic and big on the line. Just couldn't put it together.

Then again that may have been the year St. Vincents won it?

I think St Vincent won it all in '04 and was runner up in '00. Hayti was in one of the championships around there too. The biggest issue Valle's '01 team had was a starting running back that was fast as heck but afraid of contact. Their two backups were mean runners but the coach, who was a Palmer then I believe, didn't play them much. And the quarterback did not have much of an arm either.

Huh didn't realize SV did that well after my year. There were some good small class teams back then.

Drexel will be undefeated after the regular season so there is your #1. Then Adrain & Midway will have 6 games between them playing 2a schools and a 4a school. So they'll get bonus points over Lockwood who plays a JV team week 3. That doesn't even account for schedule strength. Lockwood will have to run the table and catch some breaks with the Wemo being way down this year to be a 2 or 3 seed in Districts.
Bump.
