Cardinal Ritter 0 - 7?

Okay I have to ask, did CR self report or did they get turned in? I keep reading that they self reported, like they went omg we just found this out and need to report it. But everything else sounds like a newspaper person figured it out and reported it for them?

No at the end of the day we are talking about a coach, AD, and school who choose to violate, or ignore clear violations. Using the innocence of the kids is just a cop out.

I think you can absolutely believe a program should be punished without gloating about kids being adversely affected.

Self reported

The story I got that's going around coaching circles in the metro league is that Luthern North was scouting the game because they played the follyweek. They figured it out but was going to withhold it till after 1st district so it would of eliminated CR from playoffs.

Then a LN parent somehow found out and either went directly to diocese or to this reporter who saying he seen two different pictures and noticed it. (Personally I call BS on reporter noticing it. Someone tipped him and was able to prove it by pictures)

I have heard something very close to this as well, but only self reported after the article came out

How the heck is getting caught "self reporting"??

When Missouri schools play who is responsible for making sure the coaches follow the rules? This all seems like a premeditated ruse and more than just the coach would need to be involved. A roster was printed with a fake name, a different Jersey was brought to the game. Some obscure freshmen carried the ball for 100 yards lead the team onto the field and then quietly slipped into the night never to be heard from again and nobody from this school administration ever questioned that? Much less realized the kid was not on the team? I call bull....
Also, unless they were complicit, wouldn't a school administrator have said "hey, who's this freshman, Marvin Burks? We don't have any freshman by that name enrolled in school." The clear answer is, the administration was also involved - if not with the initial decision to play the kid, they had to have been involved in letting it go unreported for 7 weeks. No way they didn't know a Marvin Burks wasn't enrolled.

Yea it was self reported after the situation was already due to come to light. I guess they REALLY wanted to beat Nazareth Academy

Missouri kid- well said!! The biggest question is what are you gonna do MSHSAA???? In the past, you have gotten some right but ignore so much! More oversight is needed and by people with balls. Im amazed that the coach, AD, assistants, etc actually thought no one would notice the kid on the field. Must be that private school education. CR was not allowed to cheat in girls basketball last year, MAYBE MSHSAA will do the right thing again.

My experience with MSHSAA is “Self Reporting” is essentially their way of giving you the opportunity to take accountability of a situation and impose penalties upon yourself — absolving MSHSAA of the responsibility in the process.

Basically, the way I understand it is, if the school "self reports" then MSHSAA is essentially off the legal hook. They aren’t accusing you of an act or imposing penalties, the school is accusing itself of the act and imposing its own penalties.

That might be a mealy-mouthed explanation, but I think the last thing MSHSAA wants is to be legally on the hook for investigations, accusations, penalties, etc., etc. The easy way around that is to have a school “self report,” mostly long after they’ve been caught in an act.

The kids didn't know.They're innocent.
Thats not true. The kids didnt know that their star running back was wearing a different jersey and the PA announcer was announcing some random freshman's name whenever he carried the ball. Get all the way out of here with that.

If nothing done but a 2 game suspension for the kid I think is a travesty. I'm ok with that for the kid but the adults that allowed this need to be held accountable.

If I was their first round district opponent I would protest the game saying they haven't played 5 qualified games to be eligible.

If the only punishment ends of being a low district seed, was there really any punishment at all?

They will almost certainly host quarters and semis after 10-11-12 on the road.

On Oct. 15, the school self-reported that they used an ineligible player on Aug. 31 in its season opener.

As of Friday afternoon, the seven game forfeit has been finalized, so there won’t be any further penalty issued by MSHSAA, a MSHSAA spokesperson said.

There were also some other sanctions regarding student eligibility, but MSHSAA has not released those details.

There will not be a postseason ban.

Several sources told 5 On Your Side Brandon Gregory has been fired.

Bill Jackson has been suspended for eight games, starting with the Oct. 18 game. Initially, MSHSAA said the player was suspended for one game. It's unclear what changed.

Gregory gone.

Kids parents lawyered up. School or MSHSAA was going do one year but reduced to up to 8 games. (Rest of this season if they make state title game.) He clear to play next year.

The evolution of this post leads me to ask what Missouri high school team has the record for worst record with a state championship?

We KNOWINGLY put the senior in a Freshman's jersey, used a fake ID, and all to spite the rule we knew we were breaking. So NO consequences for ALL the complicit adults? Banning from the postseason should be the least of what happens.

That’s the problem,,,,rules clearly state the punishment for playing under a false identity is a 365 day suspension, not 8 games. Why have rules when they are not followed

Why have rules like this if they are not to be followed? This is just opening a can of worms for the future. Cheat and make sure you cover your tracks, probably worth the slap on the wrist.

Does Ritter even care about ANY punishment as long as they get to keep playing. Would they care if the state championship was won and stripped? They obviously don't care about anything but winning.

I just keep going back to the pre-season when the coach was publicly contrasting his own QBs stats with another QB across town on Twitter. I have never seen anything like that and I personally don’t know a head coach in any sport at any school that would do that.

It seemed like an insanely unprofessional thing for a coach to do at the time.

I think there is a level of professionalism and decorum that most of us have come to expect among head coaches, even those who are at rival schools or coaches who haven’t experienced much success.

I’m not sure the standards for professional behavior has been set particularly high at a select few schools, and this particular incident is a reflection of that ... this is the type of behavior and brash twitter trash talk that you can expect to see among rival travel team coaches and AAU ball.

It has no place in high school sports where the coach is supposed to be a part of an educational process first and foremost..

Ritter's football season is over effective immediately. The archdiocese decided to cancel the season and as far as I know, this was their decision and MSHSSA was not involved. Whole staff was fired as well. I know alums were pretty outraged at the bad look this gave the school so I expected the staff to be fired. Did not expect them to cancel the rest of season but I can see why they did.

Im hearing the same thing and that the AD was fired as well. This is actually too harsh now lol

I guess this was extremely embarrassing for them

No, this is what MSHSAA should have done in the first place.

Those coaches should be banned from coaching in Missouri for a while too.

I think the newspaper editorial made the archdiocese dole a tough punishment. When you have an article that says the school is trying to win at all costs you have to take a tough stance to save the school's reputation. Feel bad for the seniors especially the ones that will not play at the next level.

I thought post season ban was as far as it would have went but CANCELLED SEASON an hour before a game? I mean sheesh lol

Catholic higher ups clearly have been following MoSports the last few days and heard the cries.

Or maybe unlike the cheating apologists on this board, the archdiocese recognizes this isn't ok.

If Cardinal Ritter is smart, Trey Porter is looking for work and has done a bang up job at Roosevelt.
