Surprises of the Season

Mountain Grove (7-4)
After starting the season 0-3 Head Coach Swofford righted the ship and won 7 games in a row, including wins over Thayer & Mountain View Liberty. His first season at the helm has the program trending up for sure. Look to see more from the Panthers next year (though we know I’m a “Grove Hater”, like some on here have pointed out before LOL)

West Plains (8-4)
There were a lot of nay sayers and doubters but Wyatt lead the Zizzers to another district championship and just almost back to a 2nd semifinal in 3 years.
Joel Wyatt has done more with less in his time at WP than a lot of people expected him too(including the local pitchfork & torches mob)

Fair Grove (13-1)
I was behind them from the get go as many were, but I would still say there were probably plenty of people who didn’t expect them to make the title game, and when they did, didn’t expect them to hang with Lamar.
The Eagles are 25-2 in the last two years with their only losses being a semifinal loss @ Valle and a state championship loss to Lamar.
FG played 4 playoff games in the last two years and didn’t get to host a single one of them.
Hats off to the staff and players, particularly the senior class at FG. Heck of a job.

Mountain Home(AR) (10-3)
I heard this would be there year that it all comes together for Ary and Acklin down in lake land, but never did I imagine it would be a 10-win season. I believe it was MH first 10 win season in over 20 years.
If only some of you knew how truly terrible that program was when he took over 6 years ago.
Going 10-3 with 2 of those losses being to the state champion and the other to the state runner up is definitely not a bad showing.

Salem(AR) (11-3)
Another team I knew would have a solid year but never did I imagine they would be playing for an Arkansas 3A championship tonight.
Former long time Thayer head man Billy Webber joined the staff a few years ago after retiring from Thayer and MOHSFB and I’m not saying that he’s the reason, but having him on staff certainly doesn’t hurt.

What are some of y’all’s surprises from this year?
Lee's Summit.

HSFB ended in MO one week ago BUT not nearly over in the Lone Star State

Oklahoma Class 4A game was a good game … offensive first half and a defensive second half.

OSSAA crowned 12 state football champions this fall … Class 6A has a Division I and II, Class 5A, 4A, 3A, 2A Division I and II, Class A Division I and II, Class B Division I and II and Class C. Was told this is the first year with some classes spilt with two divisions, but 12 state championship trophies seems like a lot.

Our friend in Texas Cody Thorn has been covering postseason football for a month now. He will text pictures from the games and it’s crazy to see all the venues they use.

State championship predictions

The common denomination is both Kirk and Justin have money to send their kids to Private schools
Did the Farmers not have the money in the 90s to send Kirk to Helias?? Come on man, it’s nothing to do with money. They were a huge family in that community for a long time. The Farmer family is in the MO Sports Hall of Fame…and every family member had went to JC to my knowledge.

Marshall opts out of bowl game against Army after dozens of players decline to play…

Shame 😒

Too bad Navy or Air Force isn’t available. What an atmosphere that would be.
