Need to give some Webb talk going on here. It’s mid July and no State Championship talk from the Webb faithful, did ya’ll drop football or something?

Is the Washington kid eligible? From what I’ve heard they will be better defensively this year than last. That Baileys coaching is a difference maker on D.

Webb returns I think just three starters on defense, maybe four? For most they would tend to struggle more, but Webb is different than most, especially if they have a hall of famer as their d-coordinator.

Won’t know if the Washington kid will be eligible until MSSHA meets in late August but rumor has it he will get to play.

I LOVE Nixa and know about that HC but they weren't even close last year. Gotta get over that "mystique" hump first...........
Last year Nixa was crushed by Webb City (and Carthage) but lost very close game in the playoffs to the class 6 champion. So they weren't close as far as the COC goes but IMO they were astonishingly good for a first year coach with a lot of younger players. I'm interested to see what Nixa does this year.

Not to discredit Webb at all but I do think some COC teams have a mental block with the cardinals after years of being conditioned that it's unwinnable, especially during that period when Webb didn't lose a game for like 8 years and was beating up on top ranked class 6 teams and out of state power teams.

Supposedly the Nixa coach is getting the basketball athletes to play football. We shall see.

Are there any actual Webb fans on here? The lack of them postulating about this seasons path to the next championship is odd. But what isn't odd these days. Typically by this time of year I am starting to hear office chatter from all the webb transplants here at work.

Yes, they just typically take a wait and see approach before they gauge any real “stamp it” like predictions. I’d say it will depend on just how good the defense is this year. But with hometown (Mine) Scott Bailey coaching those boys up on D it’s safe to say they will be a feisty group of birds.

Pretty sure Scott Bailey was a Lamar graduate, so not sure on the hometown comment

At Nixa the basketball players are generally the best athletes at the school.
I often wish the opposite at Carthage, that more of the football athletes would go on to basketball. Carthage is as bad at basketball as they are good at football.

The Defense will be the comparable to the 2017 team. Quite possibly the most speedy and physical group of linebackers and safety in a few years. The Oline will be dominant comparable to the 2019 group. This senior class may not have the division 1 recruits but have much more dog in them and all have a killer mindset. I think we’ll be fine.
I've been keeping tabs on Webb since 2017. Last year's defense was IMO their worst out of the four years I've been paying attention to them, but to be fair they were still better than most in the state. The defense in 2017 was very good. They would have had to improve a ton to get to the caliber that 2017 D was at, especially after graduating several starters. The 2019 unit returned most of their starters from 2018... We shall see. I do recall somebody saying on here how last years Webb City team was going to be one of the best in school history before the season. We saw how that wound up.

As we were all pretty much homebound last season I got to see Nixa quite a bit. They improved markedly from the Webb game gave Ray-Pec all they could handle. Big things coming for them even if they don't get over the Webb hump this fall.

To me Webb City success is not about the level of talent it is the amount of kids that go out for football and stay with it and put in alot of work to get better. It is just amazing how they do it and how those kids stay with it.

Too many new faces to predict how this season will go until we see live action. We'll be fine but comparing them to past title teams is a bit too much.

Nobody said the D would be best in years last year. Lb and dline werent there. The D this year will be suprisingly young and good.
I was referring to the team as whole, but I'm pretty sure somebody on here said that could be the best offense Webb might've ever had going into the season last year... To be fair the offense was pretty good until they picked up some injuries.

Will be interesting to see how the numbers hold when coach Rod moves on. I think this years team is their best chance at another state title for a few years. And it may come down to how well Vaden makes the switch to QB.

It would be very difficult for anyone to beat Jackson

Webb's numbers were big before JRod and they will be big after him.

Now, if championships start to seem more elusive under RMac and a more difficult classification assignment, then it wouldn't surprise me to see more kids dropping football to go all-in on baseball.

Best chance for a few years? I thought this is a rather young team that has a good future?
9 of the 11 on offense have started or played significant snaps last season. 8 of 11 on Defense have started or played significant snaps. Not really a young team because most will be seniors with a few juniors mixed in.

I thought 8 of the 11 starters were seniors last year or am I wrong? I'm going off stats and what I saw in the first game against Joplin. Seemed to matchup.

There were several different starters throughout the season. There are 4 full time starters returning defensively and the other 4 were in the playing rotation. The other 3 were special teams standouts. Offensively they have 2 running backs with starting experience and also 4 of 5 o linemen started at one point or another. Qb will do fine he’s played the position since 3rd grade but is also very versatile.
