Versailles leaving Tri-County for Ozark Highlands

Fulton to EMO? Please make this make any sense for either party. I'll hang up and listen.
For football only, it would be a good move. As the smallest school in the league, Fulton is just not competitive in the conference. It has only won one NCMC game since 2017, and has lost 24 of their last 25 league games, including 18 straight.

Their numbers have fallen to the 30s and with injuries, they have sometimes dressed under 30 guys for late season games, with a lot of them freshmen. They usually have a few good athletes, but they lack the depth to compete against Moberly, Mexico and Hannibal, who have 60 to 85 players.

Teams in the EMO have roster sizes similar to Fulton and a more diverse range of competition that would allow Fulton to compete better. Bowling Green would smash them, of course, but they could probably compete against other class 2-3 programs like Wright City and North Callaway (which would be a natural rivalry in the same county) and may even win a few against some of the other schools. If Fulton were to have a few competitive seasons at 4-5 or 5-4, it would generate more interest in the program and they would likely get more kids out for football.

I just don’t get schools that have the enrollment not wanting football.

Some it’s because of soccer. It’s rare for a school under 600 to be good at both. I don’t think you’ll see Blair Oaks or Centralia add soccer anytime soon. In fact Centralia is so scared of soccer they don’t even let the elementary kids play it.

another reason fulton should go to EMO. if you look Fulton played Winfield for this last regular season game they beat them by 7 Winfield got destroyed by a (4-6) Mark Twain, and California and Eldon beat Fulton by 4 Td's this year.

No reason I see just would prefer a high caliber sports school added to the conference. Get back the football games in early/mid 2000s or I’m just being nostalgic.
i agree, Why is everybody issue is travel. you think Centralia is happy to travel up to Clark County every other year probably not but there still in the CCC. the only conference's you don't see travel is the STL, and KC schools. if you guys want a Tri-County to be a competitive conference then, let's just Add Bowling Green, Hannibal, Mexico, and Moberly and Osage, Eldon, and California moves to ozark highlands

You guys probably thinking i lost it or something but I didn't, add them 4 schools and watch the Tri-County become one of the best Small to mid-School conferences in the state. If you think Hannibal would destroy everyone i think not: Blair oaks, Hallsville, Southern boone and Booneville, will give hannibal a game.

Living in Osage county. The old money will not allow any kind of tax increase(or anything) to pay for stadium. They need new highschool or at least more buildings and are having issues getting that done.

Hannibal/Helias game continues on in football that I know of. My hats of to both of them. No travel worries there.

ya Hannibal and Helias been playing for years and i don't hear nothing out of both teams. it's like Everybody think Hannibal is farther away but it's not

Hannibal to Jeff City and Columbia is like 1hr 45 mins away from each other. i see no problem there at all.

You have lost it because you can’t think solely on football. You also must’ve forgotten in the last decade the 3 straight semis that Cali had. They’ve had some rough years but they also had some damn good teams. Osage has had some good teams as well. Eldon has had a couple. Not to mention Cali and eldon have good volleyball programs. Cali eldon and Osage have had some recent success in girl’s basketball. And I don’t think everyone would enjoy traveling to Hannibal for a Tuesday night Boys basketball game. I understand what it looks like for football, but overall I think it would be a terrible move for the conference.

And what other sports do Hannibal and Helias play in? Helias had been independent until 3 years ago so they picked their schedule.

The EMO isn’t an option for Fulton. It’s almost 3x the size of half its schools. Not to mention it does just fine in other sports like basketball, softball, baseball, t&f and wrestling.

Honestly if the NCMC losses Fulton, they should drop Marshall and look at added Centralia, Macon and Bowling Green.

I have to call out the first paragraph of this, it is all untrue.
I heard from a valuable source on Saturday that Versailles almost did this already back in 2017 and other conference school superintendents went in to convince them to stay and it worked back then.
So what is untrue? Did they vote to leave Tri County or not?

Yes, Versailles is leaving the Tri County. NO, the supt. and AD did not push this through on a quiet vote. Missouri has the Sunshine Act and it had been discussed at the previous 3 or 4 meetings. As you mention it has been a topic of discussion for a while. Lastly I'm not aware of the AD being disliked in the community and HS AD's don't change leagues to build a resume.

Good luck to the teams leaving the conference and welcome to the teams that may come into the conference!
Old traditions passing into oblivion, and new ones taking root...
Exciting times!

It was my understanding that some of the coaches wanted to leave the conference because it was difficult to compete from a numbers standpoint. The board was split but community pressure to not leave the traditions of a conference of which they were an original member prevailed. I think reality finally set in that they have a lot of good athletes there but just not the numbers necessary to compete in many sports (boys and girls) in the Tri-County, boys basketball and girls softball being recent exceptions.
Does anyone know the history of the TC and when it was formed? I know Camdenton was a member at one time but outgrew the conference and Tipton was a member at one time but left because they were much smaller.

i like that even better but i think CCC is the best for Macon and Centralia
IDK, I think both would build bigger rivalries than in the CCC. Macon already has history with Moberly and Kirksville, and Centralia/Mexico play pretty much yearly. Not to mention better trips than to Highland or South Shelby

and Don't forget trips to Clark County also. but Adding Centralia, Macon, and Bowling Green and Replacing Fulton and Marshall would make NCMC a better competitive conference , i know this would put a damper on travel but Add Blair Oaks to NCMC and Tri-County adds Fulton, Marshall, North or South Callaway or All Four 👍

I'm was CCC Guy Myself until Mark Twain left the CCC, but It would just feel weird to See Macon and Centralia leave the CCC

You're not gonna like this but what I think is gonna happen is than Fulton will go the the Tri-County and Mexico, Moberly and Kirksville will try to get into the CCC and split into a big/small.

The biggest problem the NCMC has is Hannibal, no one wants to join the conference simply because of them. It's not the only reason but it is a large reason Boonville left.

i am find with this and i completely agree every word you say. Hannibal should of never been in a conference with these teams after the old Central missouri conference collapsed. i been wanting Hannibal to leave the NCMC for Quite time now. they're were rumors about 3 years ago that Mexico, and Kirksville was gonna leave NCMC for a closer conference i can't believe it hasn't happened yet.

Yeah rumor was Kirkville was going to leave for the CCC when Boonville left but Mexico and Moberly convinced them to stay, promising not to leave. I also know Mexico and Fulton applied for the Tri-County when Boonville did (along with North Callaway)

Its going to be interesting the next few months. Paris going 8-man is going to have a effect as well. A few schools have been waiting on them to pull the trigger and you're going to see an explosion of 8 man teams in NE Missouri over the next 4 to 5 years. I think Van-Far will go as well but will give it another year. We will see some movement with the EMO, CCC and L&C and probably a new 8-man league.

There is no doubt in my mind Fulton will leave for the Tri-County and the NCMC will collapse. If I'm Hannibal, I'm talking to the Gateway Conference and seeing what I got to do to get in.

Or Hannibal just join up with CMAC since they play each other anyways.

Oddly enough the trip to Sedalia is only 15 minutes further than Marshall.

With Columbia planning to build another high school in 2025, that would be a decent 9 team league

For real? Damn, Battle isn't that old. Wonder who gets screwed over this time?
Rock Bridge and Hickman. The school is going to be to the West. Columbia has been slowing expanding to the south and west. The are plans for another middle school and a few more elementary schools.

O% chance Marceline, Salisbury, Westran, or Milan want any part of joining the CCC.

@NEMOFball agreed. Marceline had the chance when Louisiana left the CCC and declined.

Any idea on what the Louis and Clark will do now that they are potentially losing 2 more to 8-man?

I look for Brookfield to join the L & C and the CCC will have to fill with that spot with someone.

Mark Twain left for a reason big dog. Add them to the list of Marceline, Westran, Salisbury, and Milan of schools you couldn't pay to join the CCC. Bowling Green makes sense though.
hey Bud, Mark Twain didn't leave for a reason, Mark Twain never wanted to Leave CCC. Mark Twain was Losing Enrollment and they were going to consolidate all 3 Elementary schools into one and they didn't know if they would lose more enrollment or not!!!

i went to Mark Twain 06-10

Not trying to put down Mark Twain here but in the last 5 years they are 1 and 5 vs CCC opponents being outscored 226 to 68. I would bet they don't want to rejoin the CCC.

Had a good FB buddy way back in the late 90s who went to and played at California. I remember us going to a playoff game at Platte County it was a stellar atmosphere and very intense game! Yet another great long term memory thanks for brining the Pintos into this convo............
