Top three MO HSFB games you have seen in person all time

This one was my first month here remember someone headlining the final as "the Earth has been knocked off its axis".
It was the first time in 23 years Carthage beat webb . Also webb beat them something like 42-14 earlier that year . If memory serves me correctly the following week Carthage blew a 35-0 lead to nixa or Ozark and there was some kind of controversy about cleats. Edit it was Ozark and they lost 26-20 . They had a huge halftime lead if I remember correctly

Agree Hosick and Boehm were the marquee ones (wow how you retained detail of this is amazing BTW) but both squads (LSW was defending champs having dominated Webster Groves in the 2010 C5 title game) were incredibly loaded. Knott and Steward were two others that really stood out to me in that one especially the moves the LSW QB put on Staley's D for one of the many TDs in this all time classic!
I remember Hosick committing to Mizzou and thinking to myself that he was making a big mistake as Mizzou was running a pro style offense at the time. He was not a pocket passer and was far more an option style QB. Had he gone to a school that ran that style of offense (Air Force, Georgia Tech, etc.) he might well have had a good college career.

He also was a JR in 2011. Probably just me but he didn't seem as good as a SR. Perhaps got nicked up that season?

The 2015 district semifinal between CJ and Webb was a devastating loss for CJ. The CJ QB actually had a first down with under 2 minutes to go and Webb was out of time outs but the ball slipped out of his hands as he started to slide to the turf. CJ led 7-6 at that point but everyone in the stadium knew Webb was going to score after the fumble. This game was a surprise because CJ had been blown out by Lamar 2 weeks earlier.
I was listening to that on the radio. I really thought CJ was going to get that one. I was thinking what a heartbreaker it must have been to hold off WC and the game slips away at the last second.

97 Marionville over PC. This actually should be a bottom 3! Marionville's coach would go on to become a Mosports legend.

Early to Mid 90's Springfield Catholic at the Newt. East Newton increased their lead on a hook and ladder. Catholic drove down for a FG. On the next kickoff, with just a little time on the clock, they pooched it in the air and recovered a fumble, then scored the go-ahead TD. The pooch kick was a designed play.

77 Greenfield over Marionville 7-0. Both teams went in undefeated, Greenfield wins State 2 weeks later.
Greenfield lead by David Mc Neal and James Reaves. Marionville had an Estes and a great running back, Derwin Springer.

1. 2011 LS West at Staley
2. 2008 C5 Championship Game Hazelwood East & Raytown South- "In one of the most dramatic finishes in Show-Me Bowl history, Hazelwood East defeated Raytown South on a 29-yard “Hail Mary” touchdown pass to senior Tarrell Downing as time expired. Ray South had just taken a 34-33 lead with 30 seconds left and appeared headed to the Class 5 state title, but the Spartans responded with their own dramatic play to bring home the state title."
3. 1998 Adrian at Rich Hill, district Finals- Blackhawks go down 16-0 at the half, Score 18 unanswered in the 2nd half to win 18-16.

1987 or 86. Seneca v Springfield Catholic. The Shannon Crouch express v Catholic's passing game. Ended up 50 something to 40 something. Great game. 1994 I believe. Adrian and Millller in the rain and mud multiple overtimes i believe. Miller won and went on to title.

Adrian vs Miller 1994 Still the best game I ever saw. The winning FG went through the uprights sideways and never got 10 feet off the ground.

Mt. Vernon vs Harrisonville in 2006 Quarterfinals. Harrisonville won 29-28 after penalty i had never saw in a game called before or since. Harrisonville had just scored to make it 28-27 late in the game. They lined up and kicked the extra point which was good. The refs threw a flag on Mt. Vernon. They said a player climbed the back of another player to block the extra point. Harrisonville must of declined the penalty cause the team was lined up to kick off, then they decided to accept the penalty and went for 2 and got it and won 29-28.

Carthage vs Webb 2007

Carthage vs Webb 2007
An official threw a flag on the extra point, calling a personal foul against Mount Vernon because a Mountaineer used his teammate's back for leverage. The referee signaled that Harrisonville declined the penalty and both kickoff teams ran onto the field.

About a minute later, however, the referee signaled that the Wildcats had chosen to penalize half the distance to the goal line. Ransburg then ran for a two-point conversion from a yard and a half out.

Mount Vernon coach Dan Henderson wouldn't comment on the situation, but Bouchard said the Wildcats' players originally hadn't been given an choice.

"They didn't give the option of half the distance," Bouchard said. "They just said, 'Do you want the (one-point) conversion to stay?' "

1994 Hickman vs. Rock Bridge. First time they had ever played. Rock Bridge coming off back to back state runner up finishes to Webb City in '92 and '93. Game was at Hickman. Largest crowd I have ever seen at a HS football game. Corby Jones score on a 2pt conversion scramble dive to the outside pylon to win it in 3 OT's I believe.
I was there and immediately came to mind as #1 and didn’t know if I could remember two others. That game and atmosphere was just unreal. IIRC, we got there about 3 hours early to get our seats.

1-1995 RockBridge @ Hickman…Mentioned earlier in thread. I think they estimated some 8-10k in attendance and it was just an insane atmosphere and game. Every HS athlete should have an opportunity to play in that type of game and environment.

2-1995 Camdenton v Jackson state title game at MO St. Lakers with a come from behind 20-19 W for the title.

3-2011 Webb over MICDS state title game. No shortage of offense in this one. If memory serves Webb got down early and had a big comeback to win. I’m sure someone on here can verify (too lazy to Google), but pretty sure there was 1000+ total yards of offense in the game. Webb’s mostly on the ground (duh) and MICDS mostly through the air.

Honorable Mention-1987 Camdenton over Sumner in state title game. I was just in MS back then, and the game wasn’t extremely close IIRC…but I’ve only been that cold a handful of times in my life…and Summer had a couple of HUGE bookend tackles that the Lakers just spun in circles all game. I remember a Sumner fan in the stands saying he’s never seen those Sumner kids get hit as hard as they did that day.

Here’s some favorites of mine that no one else will probably mention.

Maysville(7-4) @ Princeton(10-3) Sectionals 2007: Princeton wins 28-26 in a come from behind 2nd half effort.
The Grand River Conference was home to 4 of the top 10 teams in Class 1 that year.
Trent Best of Maysville had over 300 yards from scrimmage that game and scored every one of the Wolverines TDs. One of the best performances I’ve seen from a HS back in person.
Princeton goes on to blowout West Platte the next week in the QF and fall to Orrick in the semis the week after.

West Plains(6-5) vs Farmington(10-2) Sectionals 2005: the Knights win 23-21, WP all state kicker misses 2 go ahead FGs in the 2nd half

West Plains @ Hannibal Quarterfinals 2021: Hannibal: Hannibal wins 35-26 en route to a state runner up finish.

West Plains @ Helias Quarterfinals 2020: Helias wins 36-30 en route to a state title

Watching Lee Flood of Marionville in one of the state title games, I can’t remember which one, was a real treat. Pretty sure he had a dislocated shoulder heading into the game and played the whole game anyways and still put on a show.

I recall the 2011 C4 title game being close back and forth but Webb pretty much leading the whole game. The semifinal at Savannah (craziest weather ever by the way) Webb went down 21 in the first half (which the stadium announcer sure let everyone know) then roared back in the second winning on the final drive of the game.

Seems like Webb started and scored and most of the game was either WC up 1 or tied. I can't remember if or how halftime affected that timing. A some point in the 4Q MICDS had their one and only unsuccessful possession, can't remember exactly what happened, but they didn't score and that was really what sealed it for WC. Not for that it would have been 50/50 Webb win or OT.

I believe that QB for MICDS went on to play at an Ivy League school which seemed kind of fitting, since MICDS is basically an Ivy League HS.

Bowling Green over Louisiana 52-50 in 1991. Exhausting game. Came down to a mishandled snap on a field goal with under a minute to go.

Windsor over Skyline in 2020 for the district title, Greyhounds went on to win State. Skyline was debatably the second best team in class 1 that year.

Any number of games from the Warrensburg -Smith-Cotton rivalry. The Battle for the Silver Tiger had some great, competitive contests.

1) Richmond over Fulton (played AT Fulton) for the 3A State Championship back in the Fall of 1971.

Fulton had RB Tony Galbreath who later starred at Mizzou and then won a Super Bowl ring with the Giants.

Richmond was led by QB/DE Blaine Henningson who would go on to play TE for Mizzou.

Tony Galbreath kicked what appeared to be a game-winning go a head FG late in the game...but Henningson led his team down the field in the final minute and scored himself on a QB keeper in the closing seconds.

Fulton fans argue they were "robbed" to this day as two 15-yard penalties greatly aided the game-winning drive...one they refer to as the "phantom late-hit" for which the official gave the Fulton sideline a jersey number of a guy who wasn't even on the field.

2) North Callaway vs, Centralia 8-8 tie in the fall of 1971. Centralia was leading 8-6 late in the game when North Callaway attempted a long, desperation FG. The FG was so wide left...that it went out of bounds on the 6" line with only seconds left. The North Callaway NG "leap-frogged" the center and tackled the Centralia QB for a game-tying safety on the final play.

3) North Callaway 50-49 over Montgomery County in O.T. in a Class 2 District semi-final at KIngdom City in the fall of 2020. Great back-and-forth game with the Thunderbirds winning on a 2-point conversion in OT.

I also remember when Smith-Cotton and Harrisonville briefly had a very strong rivalry mid-late 2000s. Got to attend one of those in person had a blast!

TE dropped a key pass on that only non-scoring drive as I recall. You are also right about the QB I "think" he went to Harvard but could be mistaken. Been a minute ago.............

Webb vs Kearney 2002. The shocked look on Webbie faces.
Webb vs Kearney 2003. No one shocked.

The one KU football game I attended in 2007 was quite entertaining and took FOREVER. Never thought I’d see the day when Nebraska would allow 70 points in one game let alone to KU. Kansas 76, Nebraska 39. I assumed this list was reserved for prep games attended in this state.

Not sure if the state athletic board allowed the turbo clock. Definitely would have sped up the blowout.

The 2002 game was a great one until the Cards seemed to tire out the last 5 minutes. Never will forget the Benny Palmer TD run that basically sealed it. Were we to do top 3 all time HSFB atmospheres that one may be my #1.

2011 Farmington vs Gateway Tech - Quarterfinals
Wind was crazy so every punt was a toss up on whether or not they could actually get the ball down the field. Gateway led 14-0 going into the 4th quarter, Farmington goes on to score 31 unanswered to win. Had a late interception and a punt returned for a TD if I remember correctly.

Also last years regular season Kearney vs Smithville was an incredible HS football game, would have been better if it were a postseason game. Rarely do you get a back and forth like that at the HS level with an exciting finish.

I was at that Smithville-Kearney game and agree. Will be extremely interesting to see how this September 8 goes given the Warriors, graduation struck as they are, haven't lost a regular season game on that field since the Platte County miracle in 2018 (I left that at half worst mistake in 4 plus decades going to HSFB games) and given what Kearney has returning especially offensively this fall.

Kearney losing three D1 athletes from that team. That's a lot of juice. But eight starters back on O. Seven on D.

Got me thinking.... I think Smithville only had 1 player go on to play college. This will hopefully continue to be a great match up!

No, there are several high level athletes from Smithville going to play college sports--but they do other sports. Baseball and track. For the next two years, it will not be a good match up.
