With Jackson on the downturn (or so it seems) will we see a SEMO school win another title anytime soon? Outside of Jackson I have not been much impressed with what is going on in that corner of the state. Granted I do not know much about the smaller schools (Scott City for example) but the class 4 & 5 schools leave much to be desired. Could be way off but doesn't seem like this area of the state is keeping up.

Valle will win class 3

Historically, Valle and Jackson have been the only programs to threaten a state title from southeast MO.

Hayti has been in at least 3 or 4 title games over the years.

Jackson has been 2nd 3 times and won it once.

It's all valle or SVs all the time.

weird. i know.

I was always curious how they would do in a bigger class. I will say I was very WRONG about them. Happy for them but always curious if St. Gen would be a powerhouse if Valle wasn't there. Obviously we will never know and I have a soft spot for public schools but such is the world we live in.

This is crazy to me. The one that shocks me the most is the North St. Francois County Raiders. They have had two NFL players in recent history, Will Compton and the Forbes kid and yet have not even sniffed a championship. I would imagine if you got a good coaching staff in there they could compete with anyone based on this but again I could be way off base.

Jackson and Valle will still be consistently good. Cape Central played for state championship in 2015. Kennett and Malden had good runs with Joel Wyatt. Hayti has had some good teams. North County (Bonne Terre) made it to the semifinals last year. Farmington has had some good groups. Every once in a while, a good group is going to come through somewhere in SEMO and someone will make a run. I believe last year would have been that chance for Park Hills Central if they hadn't run up against the St. Mary's juggernaut in the quarters. One thing going against the SEMO schools (especially Cape and south) are the low pay for teachers and coaches (even lower than normal). I still think occasionally someone other than Jackson or Valle can rise up and make a run but it will be random and scattered.

Hayti has been in 2 title games (2002, 2018).
St. Vincent has been in 3 title games (1998, 2000, 2004). In the 54 years of the championship series. Almost "all the time," but not quite.
Sorry veer, if we were trying to have a conversation that didn't involve some sort of public/private debate or pity party.

also I think jackson has only been in 4 titles games, winning one.

It was already mentioned but Malden made a run to the title a few years ago, although it took a coach from South Central Mo to make that happen

I said "make a little noise", nothing about beating BO or Lamar but they still don't have a bad team

Like most rural counties...the school-age number of kids is really dropping.

Valle only has about 130 total students and Ste. Gen. pubic was only about 20-30 students away from being Class 2 this year.

If you combine BOTH SCHOOLS...they'd STILL be Class 3.

How good would two Class 3 schools with records of 8-3 and 10-0 be if they were combined and still in Class 3???

Pretty crazy to think about.

They already combine! It is just that Valle gets most of the players.. LOL

Odds are they also get some players that SG cannot. Out of county and such.

And before the usual suspects cry, Valle services more than one county.

Don't like 80%+ of their male students play football? The odds are good there's been a non SG county player or three on those football teams.

stand back and watch.

Malden and Hayti have been mentioned but both teams shut down their teams before the end of the season, Caruthersville has a lot of talent but have had trouble keeping a coach.

Kennett lost in the state championship to Odessa 3 or 4 years ago. They are down this year, but they can compete statewide most years.

It has definitely declined down there. There are not a lot of turf fields or newer facilities down there, I doubt many teams have strong year-round weightlifting programs.

I watched the NMCC vs Portageville game, and I don't think either team can compete with the top teams in their respective classes.

Park Hills Central and Valle Catholic are really good this year but are both in district 1 and the winner will be playing Cardinal Ritter in the next round.

IMO the winner of CR vs Valle\Park Hills will win class 3.

They will compete in basketball because they play consistently tough defense down there.

Kennett has never played in a football championship. They lost 31-14 to Odessa in a semifinal one year.
