You underestimate just how seriously some school superintendents take themselves.West Plains apparently has a comedian on staff lol … Are we sure that press release wasn’t written sarcastically?
You underestimate just how seriously some school superintendents take themselves.
Oh! I know this one! I can finally yell, "NERD ALERT"!
It might as well have been written like yours. The more times I read it the more ridiculous it gets. How on earth will 6 mid sized school playing each other in sports transform anything related to academics. Across the whole southern portion of the state no less.Rumor is there was an update to the West Plains press release.
"Five of the greatest public high schools in the history of academia are forging an alliance that will not only end world hunger, capture peace in the Middle East and end male baldness, but will forever put on notice the SEC, NFL, the 1985 Chicago Bears and any other entity, individual or organization, attempting to play the sport of football as well as we already have and plan to do."

@Mitsurugi san you are either good or not, Last year in the first round of district we beat LR pretty handily at your place, and we only played 2 class 4 schools one of them beat us. We had loses to 3 class 2 schools, 1 class 3 and a class 4 who also beat you guys and is going to be in your conference. We came into districts with just 3 wins. I can tell you 2 of those class 2 schools that beat us were probable better or equal to the class 4 school that beat us in districts.I can honestly say I don’t know, but I have personally been rooting for this kind of change ever since LR won the Big 8 East a couple years ago, only to loose in the first round of districts (a district that includes Bolivar, Marshfield, West Plains, and sometimes CJ).
I know districts are subject to change every year (and thus LR’s district won’t always include so many of its new conference-mates), but I’d still rather suffer in conference play against schools the size of those we will face in districts than have a winning record in a conference full of schools smaller than those we’d ever see in the post season 🤷🏻♂️
(…and yes, LR has had a winning record against Big 8 East opponents every year for the last four years 🙂)
I asked one of my Nixa guys about it. He said they are opposed to bringing in any new members or a mandatory agreement with the OC because they are looking past that and wanting to use at least one of the open weeks to schedule some kind of "high profile" team each year. I gathered they were talking like a Bixby type or he mentioned teams from far flung states like Georgia or Texas or wherever. Which makes sense given their long history of football dominance and state championships.Yeah, it's a strange situation all the way around in that regards. It makes all the sense in the world for SPS and the east COC schools to join up. But that would leave Camdenton, Waynesville, Lebanon, Rolla, Webb, Neosho, and Joplin searching for solutions. I'm floored that this movement won't get it talked about, but as of now it isn't. It's rough when you're a "big" school kind of out in the middle of nowhere. What I will never understand is why 8-10 schools you could throw a blanket over don't form a conference. It's so strange.
I bet Webb wants to do this too but neither should want any part of Bixby.I asked one of my Nixa guys about it. Pretty sure I've gotten district wide emails that look like this.Rumor is there was an update to the West Plains press release.

In defense of the press release, Academics will improve because of all the extra group study time on those longer bus rides.
Or those CJ and WP kids are gonna need bigger spitters for the back of the bus. I'm not making that roadie without the Wolf and an empty bottle. In defense of the press release, Academics will improve because of all the extra group study time on those longer bus rides.
For each sport is will happen once every 2 years.Or those CJ and WP kids are gonna need bigger spitters for the back of the bus. I'm not making that roadie without the Wolf and an empty bottle.
That is correct. That is Nixa's approach, as far as the crossover stuff is concerned. They're looking for a matchup that puts them on ESPN. They might have a bit inflated opinion of themselves in that regards, but I get it. They're going to have one of the, if not THE, top recruit in the country. They're marketable.I asked one of my Nixa guys about it. Yes. And? I mean, I'd pack the Wolf and the spitter going across town too. But that's just me.For each sport is will happen once every 2 years.

You sound prepared at leastYes. And? I mean, I'd pack the Wolf and the spitter going across town too. But that's just me.
You mean like playing 10 yards off of receivers on 4th and 5?CJ’s defensive staff is also amateur hour clown room stuff. They don’t help themselves be competitive in any form or fashion.
I don't know about next year but at some point CJ may play Neosho againPurely guess work:
Nixa: Bentonville, Tulsa area based on comments above?
Webb City: Pittsburg, Kickapoo
Joplin: Kickapoo, Glendale
Carthage: Monett, West Plains
Carl Junction: Nevada, Lamar, Pittsburg, McDonald County
WHOA HO!!! BOSKO LIKEY!!!It would be interesting to see the overall win loss of all the schools that left a conference.
I know WP and Reeds have wining records. Maybe LR? Because we all know what this is really about.
WP first 8-9 years in the OC they were a little under .500, usually finished 3-4 in conference headed into district play.It would be interesting to see the overall win loss of all the schools that left a conference.
I know WP and Reeds have wining records. Maybe LR? Because we all know what this is really about.

Stef learned a hard lesson that night. Luckily, I set him down the right path after our little "chat" and his life got better. What happened after this? He got his scholarship and out of Ampipe.
The coaching experience on that side of the ball is shockingly low.You mean like playing 10 yards off of receivers on 4th and 5?
I doubt that will happen for football but they will certainly have the boys and girls games on some Friday night in February. In all seriousness, and with all the talk of the new travel, I’m hopeful (but pessimistic) some schedule creativity will come out of this. For example, how about West Plains football at CJ on a Saturday at 3pm, following the conclusion of girls volleyball between the same two schools earlier in the day?
I’d be pretty sure you’ll see the “super schedule” in basketball where the boys and girls teams travel and play at a location on the same night.
I’d be more tempted to drive a few hours if I caught a couple of varsity matches. Maybe most don’t feel that way.
Even helps a little with the shortage of football referees.
At a minimum with CJ and WP being so far apart, that one makes sense to play on a Saturday afternoon whenever possible.
That is some serious windshield time for the CJ folks. Are things so bad being in the COC that 6 hr roundtrip road games to West Plains is a better option? There has to be other, more local names, to drop in this scenario for it to make sense.
Who knows what Nixa will do. What I'm hearing is they want to one-up what Webb did when they used to occasionally schedule schools like Rock and Har ber. I think they are maybe getting the cart ahead of the horse but we'll see.Purely guess work:

CJ Monett and Neosho all make sense in playing each other.I don't know about next year but at some point CJ may play Neosho again
Should’ve my guess is these would make sense in the short term. Not necessarily a perfect fit for annual home-homes. Not that I have any insider knowledge or dug into teams scheduling agreements. Teams that will all have opening due to conference changes. Carthage probably doesn’t want to consistently play Monett, but came to me as a thought for what will likely still be a pretty young team for two schools that play in the jamboree and now will have a scheduling gap.Who knows what Nixa will do. What I'm hearing is they want to one-up what Webb did when they used to occasionally schedule schools like Rock and Har ber. I think they are maybe getting the cart ahead of the horse but we'll see.
A lot of us have fond memories of the border battle but I'm not sure it's that great of a match for WC anymore. Lebanon or Camdenton seem better to me for Webb but they may not want to schedule a potential playoff opponent in the regular season. I see them more likely looking to Arkansas. Kickapoo makes sense too.
Kickapoo and Glendale make the most sense for Joplin. I don't see them looking to KC, Arkansas or the Tulsa area.
I don't really see Monett for Carthage. Other than both schools having a ton of hispanics they aren't similar in size or competition so I don't see that as a logical match. I don't see them wanting West Plains either. If I had my pick I'd want Kickapoo and Glendale. But I could see Bolivar in the mix or trying to grab Pittsburg KS.
Those all make sense for Carl.
Yes. I also think CJ or Neosho might call Nevada.CJ Monett and Neosho all make sense in playing each other.
Did WP build a second gym?I doubt that will happen for football but they will certainly have the boys and girls games on some Friday night in February.
🤔. ..If Nixa want to play ball on ESPN, they had better make the top 100 of all football teams in the country. I stopped checking Nixa’s National ranking 3-4 weeks ago when they were ranked 857 or so in the top 1000 footballs teams in the US. I’ll pay closer attention to them when or if they ever beat CBC or DESMET. Otherwise, let’s enjoy the boat race until the second week of the state playoffs. That is correct. Yeah that would also be a good match up. Mac County could be another, I could also see Seneca being a good call for Neosho and CJ.Yes. I also think CJ or Neosho might call Nevada.
