Ozark Mountain Conference

If I were a CJ football parent I would probably like this to be honest. Some extra travel for road games but your program instantly looks better and is more enjoyable. And I don't mean that as a jab. You aren't trying to take down class 6 schools and large class 5 schools week in and week out. And you aren't losing year in and year out to the teams all your coworkers support.
Yeah it does, Marshfield and LogRog could not compete in the Big 8 as many have pointed out a conference of class 2 and 3 schools, CJ should roll them. As for the others they already played Branson which most years they beat them. So the only good adds are West Plains which has been really good but look down this year. and Bolivar. So depending on their non conference they have just but all about guarantied themselves a .500 season. But man as a parent who is going to want to leave work early most of the time to go watch those games. I beat the visiting stands will be empty for some of those games, and that will not be fun for those kids.

Burned too many bridges.

They can be rebuilt...

My biggest question is... why is Neosho not involved in this? Were they just out of the loop? I've been hearing for years they want out of the COC but haven't had any options. They are similar size to Branson and competition wise right there with them.
I think travel honestly would be my thing. They have built some nice facilities and are trying to ramp up the program. I think they are looking down the road.

The only longer trip for CJ is WP. The others are basically Springfield and CJ goes to Springfield all of the time now.

My guess is if they are doing the cross over with the OC Neosho thinks they are getting Parkview and Hillcrest so that is 2 wins.

Hillcrest is the only class 4 school left in the OC.
From everything I've been told (and everything else has been spot on so far) that's a want to thing and not a have to thing. Meaning schools will still have freedom to schedule whomever. It's not a crossover thing like, say, the SEC that has two divisions and they have their cross division opponents.

Right. I was wondering about that. Well I assume the new league will take them anytime.

Yeah exactly. Log Rog and Monett have two ranked soccer teams battling it out been fun, and Both are in Class 2 district 5.

But you keep telling us how this is not about football.
So because a couple schools in the current conference are similar, then the move makes no sense outside of football? That seems like a mighty small sample size.

I think for someone like Rog, this decision is simple. Their travel doesn't increase, and they certainly look more like the other schools in the new conference than the Big 8 schools.

Yeah you might be right, but we did kick the crap out of all those schools in softball, maybe they are leaving because of that... who knows.
I don't think this new OMC conference last any longer than whatever conference these COC small schools ever join, don't think they will ever be happy.

West Plains statement called it
“A groundbreaking initiative is set to transform the educational and athletic landscape of public schools across southern Missouri.”

That’s a stretch.

Have you been to LogRog or Bolivar they are not basically Springfield. Marshfield is not either those are all going to be at least a 2 hour bus trip.

Someone in public education overstating their new idea??? Blasphemy!

From CJ to Rog is no different than CJ to say Ozark. Marshfield and Bolivar be about 20-30 miles more than "east" COC school trips.

Idk about 2 hour trips...but close...probably more like an hour and 45 mins or so. It can't be more than 100 miles to Marshfield or Bolivar from CJ.

Bolivar, Branson, Marshfield were in the COC together since it started in 1968. Rogersville from the early 70s. Those 4 have along time relationship with each other. West Plains fits perfectly school wise with them and for West Plains the best case geography wise. Those 5 should be a nice long term solution. Carl Junction is the odd duck in the whole thing.

Mid-Lakes expansion putting all 3 of the Table Rock schools and Catholic with Fair Grove, Strafford and Clever is a long time coming. Right fit for all of them. Buffalo and Skyline should probably switch places but that is a different story.

Big 8 is back to its natural self. Right fit finally.

Alot of right fits are getting corrected.

That's good because I would rather see like a Camdenton/Helias game or it would make sense for Rolla to play Washington or the Four River schools OOC.

Yeah, it's a strange situation all the way around in that regards. It makes all the sense in the world for SPS and the east COC schools to join up. But that would leave Camdenton, Waynesville, Lebanon, Rolla, Webb, Neosho, and Joplin searching for solutions. I'm floored that this movement won't get it talked about, but as of now it isn't. It's rough when you're a "big" school kind of out in the middle of nowhere. What I will never understand is why 8-10 schools you could throw a blanket over don't form a conference. It's so strange.

West Plains apparently has a comedian on staff lol … Are we sure that press release wasn’t written sarcastically?

Probably written by the same person who wrote the district’s official definition of a “Zizzer”.

So why did Log Rog want out of the Big 8 @Mitsurugi san
I can honestly say I don’t know, but I have personally been rooting for this kind of change ever since LR won the Big 8 East a couple years ago, only to loose in the first round of districts (a district that includes Bolivar, Marshfield, West Plains, and sometimes CJ).

I know districts are subject to change every year (and thus LR’s district won’t always include so many of its new conference-mates), but I’d still rather suffer in conference play against schools the size of those we will face in districts than have a winning record in a conference full of schools smaller than those we’d ever see in the post season 🤷🏻‍♂️

(…and yes, LR has had a winning record against Big 8 East opponents every year for the last four years 🙂)

Tell us how they did against the Big 8 west!
