Ozark Mountain Conference

I am looking forward to those matchups for CJ. It will be awesome. Would love to see them pick up Pittsburg too.
Pittsburg may have current contracts that make that impossible for a year or 2.

Marshfield has their schedule up on MSHSAA. Parkview, Reeds Spring and Central is their non-conference.

Lamar still has a posting on MSHSAA asking for a Non Conference game. This game doesn't seem like a guarantee.

They will graduate alot, but not sure they will take a pretty good step back. Those kids coming up have been pretty decent.
I see them finishing 3rd or 4th next year in conference, but I could easily be wrong. Next year in the conference the top 4 teams should be competitive(Lamar,Nevada,Seneca,MV), then 3 average teams that might be able to steal a win from a top 4 team if things just fell perfect on a Friday night, but doubtful (Mac, Cassville, Aurora). And then 2 bad teams in Monett and EN. 2024 should be an interesting season in the Big 9 Conference.

I think MC is a sleeper next year! Solid sophomore class! I look for there to be 5 solid teams in the BIG 8 next fall! Will be fun!

So I was looking into Valley View of Jonesboro AR.

That’s one of WPs non cons next year.

They’re currently 8-1 so far this season.

A top 5 team in Class 5(5A in Arkansas)

A top 25 team regardless of classification in Arkansas.

Enrollment is roughly 850-875 which is about the same as Bolivar so they would be a smaller Class 4 if they were in Missouri.

They’re 24-8 over the last 3 seasons including a 9-3 record last year and an 8-1 record so far this year.

Sounds like a solid opponent and a good pickup by the Zizzers.

Would be nice if they had Helias to add to that schedule.

I think you are pretty much spot on, except I think MV & Lamar Will be the favorites, Nevada and Seneca knocking on the door depending on if they can reload, but I think Seneca's young guys can be really good.

It will be a fun year. Do the Cubbies have anything coming up the pipeline? Hate seeing them not be a contender like they have been for so many years.

What is the deal with Monett sports in general? They seem to be struggling with everything .

Probably just a down cycle. They have had really good showings in Softball, soccer, wrestling, swimming, and until the past couple years football consistently throughout the years. I covered sports there for quite a while, and there are some challenges there that a lot southwest missouri schools don't have to fight. Great place to be, but certain sports will just never take off there partially because of location, and partially because a certain large population of the school is generally only interested in a couple select activities.

And we have a large amount of sports.... Football, Cross Country, Soccer, Swimming all for fall, I know it gives the kids alot of choices but do we have that many good athletes to be good in that many? Spreads your athletes thin.

I think the 7th graders won 2 or 3 this year but believe the 8th graders had an 0fer, for what that is worth?
the 7th grade was really good last year. Going forward they will be fine, they played cAssville within 10 and the cats finished unbeaten. They then beat Seneca who I believe only lost to cAssville, could be wrong.

I talked to someone who takes youth football pictures and he randomly brought up Monett to tell me that none of the Monett youth teams were very good. He said 1 grade even had a game stopped by officials because it was deemed unsafe to even play. That is mostly why I asked. It just seems like a long down cycle for a school that generally was good historically

Been involved with the Monett youth for 19 years now, I have seen the ups and downs. Biggest issue right now is that our participation levels are low, we are going to work to improve that. However no games have been stopped because play was deemed unsafe, I was at every game this year.

Ok. Football is a numbers game for sure.

The downfall of the really good and the rise of the very mediocre to really bad. It’s a real thing in the “progressive” rural schools.

Some of the OMC schedules are trickling out. Parkview playing everyone but CJ and Rogersville.

Parkview only shows 6 games too. CJ could still be added but Rogersville might have 3 non conference games already.

Looks like schedules may be finalized.

According to MSHSAA, West Plains non cons are:
Week 1 @Mountain Home (AR) they would be Class 5 in MO and are only a 50-ish mile drive. Closest away game WP has had in over 20 years
And
Week 7 @ Class 5 Poplar Bluff which is just barely closer than going to Springfield

These 2 made the most since geographically, so why I may not agree with the new conference, this year in particular WP travel is less than it has been since the 90s for football.
I think these were good non cons to schedule. No playing down.

CJ is playing Rogers Heritage, Capitol City and Seneca. I think the Pittsburg game has to wait until a new cycle.

Late August in Mountain Home wow. Trout fishing weekend for the coaches and players?

I was thinking it was an 8 team conference. WP has Parkview scheduled but CJ doesn’t. Did Parkview not make it in? I can’t even remember.

5 of the 7 teams in the OMC have scheduled Parkview.

The only ones who didn’t were Rog and CJ.

After getting beat by Hillcrest yet again in districts, I’m not shocked that Rog didnt want Parkview. I bet they didn’t even want Hillcrest in

The Springfield AD kind of implied that they will ask for Parkview and Central to be added in a few years.
