OSU should be out. 4 Conf. champs in.

Penn State, conference champs and beat OSU. Bama, Clemson, Washington conference champs with zero or one loss. If you disagree, you are just wrong.

If Penn St had not been blown out my Michigan they would be in for sure. Heck if Oklahoma had been more competitive with Ohio St they might have had a chance. I don't think OU is as good as some years past but Ohio St did win at OU so in that regard you could call them the Big 12 champ.

I think Ohio St will be in easily and the debate is between Washington or Penn St. The Big 10 is the best conference this year but I would probably give Washington the 4th spot. One loss and won the conference title by 31 points. I also think Ohio St is the only team that can beat Alabama, not that they will.

OSU will be in because of political power.
They are like the Clintons of football.
They will get the nomination.
If you cant win your conference, you can't be the national champ.
Kirk Herbstreits arrogance is sickening.
He acts like he is unbiased when he and his dad played at osu.

Two years ago TCU was in the top 4 with one loss going into the final week. They didn't play in a conf championship game and fell out of the top four despite not playing.
At the time I thought it was wrong that they were out but then Ohio St went and rolled to the title so,the committee got that on right.

The only 2 that really there is no goo argument of keeping out are Bama and Clemson. There are cases against all the others. Michigan had some bad breaks or they are the Big 10 champ. I think Ohio St will be safely in even if Penn St gets in.

Whether they admit it or not tv viewership matters on who gets in. Osu is gonna bring more eyes than washington and penn state combined

Penn State will not make it. But, how impressive is that turnaround from the Sandusky mess? I would have thought that place was dead for any amount of time to come.

Two of the four people on the ESPN announcement show are former osu players

Throw in OU and Usc and you got yourself a nice little 8 team playoff. Five conf. champs and three at-large.

If you had 8 teams, everyone would still argue about the 8th team.
There needs to be a 32 team playoff using the bowls as sites. Anyone that would be 33 has no claim to the championship chances.

The committee seems to decide what the criteria is depending on who they want in.... When TCU was left out it was because they did not play in a championship game... and that last data point makes a difference also, they did not like the fact that they were not clear cut conference champs.... that thinking would have hurt Ohio State so they didn't use it this year.

^Just noticed the Veer stop in like. Maybe he'll start commenting in 2017 if Mizzou is bowl eligible. #relevant

And how bad was the SEC East this year? WOof
Kentucky beat Louisville. Remember Louisville?
Didn't someone beat mighty Va Tech this year too? Oh yeah.
FSU struggled to beat Ol' Miss.

There DA. Cook is gone. Bye bye.

You had to know he'd be back with the momentum of Mizzou's third win this year over an FBS school! :D

Mizzou is basement bound for at least the next decade (maybe bowl eligible before then, but only barely, with non conference wins against SBU and Evangel because they're in the SEC and entitled to easy non conference schedules...)

That's kind of a playoff committee reference

I agree with the 32 team playoff with the bowls as locations.

Imagine if you will:

#1. Alabama vs. #32. Miami

#2. Ohio St. vs. #31. Temple

#3. Clemson vs. #30. Pittsburgh

#4. Washington vs. #29. Iowa

#5. Michigan vs. #28. Western Kentucky

#6. Wisconsin vs. #27. Utah

#7. Oklahoma vs. #26. Houston

#8. Penn St. vs. #25. Nebraska

#9. USC vs. #24. Washington St.

#10. Colorado vs. #23. Boise St.

#11. Western Michigan vs. #22. USF

#12. Oklahoma St. vs. #21. Stanford

#13. Florida St. vs. #20. Navy

#14. West Virginia vs. #19. LSU

#15. Florida vs. #18. Auburn

#16. Virginia Tech vs. #17. Louisville

I think the committee got it right. I actually think Michigan would beat Washington head-to-head but I think a one loss conference champ should get in against a 2-loss non-conference champ pretty much every time. Penn St losing by 39 points to Michigan did them in.

I like the 4 team playoff. When Oklahoma played Ohio St early in the season that was a playoff game. Ohio St was the better team. Big 10 was clearly the best conference this year as well.

Aren't you a razorback fan ?

Missouri may have beat a couple of bowl teams this year, but that's not enough. We shouldn't just be happy we beat a team from the dregs of the SEC west. We improved over the course of the season. The tigers need to build on this.

Mizzou beat 3 bowl teams and each team they lost to is in a bowl .

For those in favor of a 16 team playoff...

When would these games happen? Would end the season two weeks later? Start the season two weeks earlier, shorten the regular season?

They won't play games during finals...

Also, how many people would really be interested in a #1 vs #16 matchup in the playoffs (this year that would West VA/Bama)? I think 8 is enough...

lol.

I have never seen anything in the criteria that says you must be a conference champion. Does anyone truly think that Penn State is a top 4 team? The best 4 teams got in.

I know this is a little irrational but what if the SEC/ACC/B10 champ were a 3 loss team. Lost 1 in conference and 2 out of conference, would anyone still lobby for them?

OSU lost a game they probably win 7/10 times, that doesn't mean a two loss conference winner is a better team. I don't think anyone can (SHOULD might be a better word) deny that.

I agree. I don't think the 16th ranked team has a legit case to make that they could be the national champion. Plus, scheduling would be a nightmare.
