Congratulations to former Joplin Globe sports writers Wendell Redden, Anvil Welch, Jim Henry, and Jim Fryar on their upcoming induction into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame. Back in the day, the sports reporting and sports writing at the Joplin Globe was top notch!!! I know Jim Henry, and he is a very nice and great person! Very deserved recognition for these men!

After seeing the title of this thread. I think we need a MoSports Hall of Fame!!

Congrats to the Globe writers. Sure do miss that paper; it really doesn't exist anymore. As for MoSports Hall, we may need to go back to The Dive, Gianthook, and Real Ray and get them in on the first ballot. Perhaps Veer in his old name and DocFever as well.

There are alot of good ones who are either no longer with us or no longer post.

I traded football history with Anvil Welch back in the day when I was just starting to do research on NE Okla, NW Ark, SE Ks, Mo SW & Ozark area teams & leagues. Knew two of the others but Anvil was who I delt with the most. I still have the Globe high school football preview section from 1977 until the stopped and just a series on teams & leagues for about 2 weeks. Was an awesome sports staff and best sports section in any of the 6 Missouri newspapers I used to get, pre-website era . I miss being able to find the info I wanted every week in once place. Glad they are be recognized and honored for the work they did. I salute you gentleman and appreciate all the information I was given and able to save it for hosory.

Thought about starting an entire new thread since this one was highjacked and has completely gone off the rails.

That said, since I will not be able to make it to Springfield this Wednesday for the induction ceremony of four of my former colleagues, decided to drive over to and visit Anvil Welch on Sunday. He said he looks forward to seeing everyone and getting phone numbers and mailing addresses from people so he can call and write people asking for help with his various records projects.

Which got me to thinking, if anyone here would like to mail him a congratulations letter/note or even share any sports historical record information from the schools you follow/cover/research, please send me a message and I will share his mailing address with you. He can no longer drive and his research is limited to what he can find on his computer at home and digging through old newspapers he has collected. So if anyone would want to share their sports research with Mr. Welch, it would be appreciated.

Yesterday I delivered to him updates on the Carl Junction football and basketball projects ... football has every score, date, opponent and location from 1920-present. Basketball has every score, date, opponent, location, tournament and box score from 1956-2004, missing box scores from 2004-present and the occasional missing game here and there (January 25, 1958 at Pierce City, 2018 COC conference game vs. Neosho).

Any correspondence with Mr. Welch would be deeply appreciated ...
