Kickapoo and Glendale invited to COC

Have heard...take fwiw...SPS is telling OMC today if they won't take Parkview, then Hillcrest is out.

I wouldn’t be shocked to see Rolla head northeast to be honest.
They’ve had little to no success in the OC in football in the last 20 years other than maybe a season or two.
Now, their girls basketball is solid but I think even they graduate their studs after this year.
Thinking they do something with the bigger schools in the 4 Rivers? Or in with Eureka?

Why not find a league for Central for all sports?
Easier said than done merely because of football. Honestly, across the board in most other sports, they'd not be totally out of place in the OMC...except for football. It's pretty hard when you've got a HS of 1200-1300 that couldn't field a football team that could compete in C1. But boys basketball will be one of the best in the area this season. They were darned good last season. Girls basketball is way down, but they've had solid seasons in recent memory. Same with their volleyball. That IB program base just makes it an odd dynamic.

Well then you have 3 messes to deal with instead of 2. However the OMC should totally take Parkview.
I'd imagine they wind up taking them, but this is likely what's holding up SPS announcement of any kind. Parkview winds up in OMC, Central goes completely indy, and the OC is no longer. Rolla probably heads north and east and tries to figure out some sort of big/small split of the 4 Rivers, but it's going to take adding some schools I'd think. Then my best guess would be Camdenton, Leb, and Waynesville head north to make a conference with JC, Cap City, Helias, Rock Bridge, Hickman, and Battle.

Central's best basketball player from the past couple years (Starks-Fewell) is at Willard now. I dont know how good they'll be honestly. We'll see.

Central can get some wins against smaller schools (8-3 last year in fact) in football, boys basketball has been competitive the past few seasons, but other than that their sports are horrific.

Central baseball is among the worst in the area regardless of class size.

Volleyball had a random good season a couple years ago but were 2-31 this past year.

Softball was 0-18 this fall.

Girls basketball was 1-23 last winter. It's bad, bad, bad.

The Central feeder middle schools for SPS have combined programs recently and formed one team due to lack of interest among the kids.

At Central the biggest thing for those kids is getting a coach to get the students interested and bought in to a program. You look at all their success in the past decade and its been with new coaches who have got the kids interested and wanting to play. Unfortunately a lot of those coaches move onto other jobs and then they're right back to square one. And in SPS with the ease of transfer success is so fragile. Kids can just transfer over to Parkview, Kickapoo etc which is what has happened quite a bit, especially in basketball.

Kids in Springfield transfer? What that must be a mshsaa violation

And they got Waynesville's best player that's a D1 talent, I think.

Agreed

Don't just cherry pick a season. It hasn't been great, but it also hasn't been as bad as what you said.
Softball was 0-18 this fall.
They've been really bad, but did have some solid years 8-10 yrs ago.
Girls basketball was 1-23 last winter. It's bad, bad, bad.
Correct...But they've also been very competitive in recent memory. I mean, CJ was awesome for years and they're about to take some serious beatings. Things go in cycles.

That might help more than hurt. Get the kids that want to and can play.

This is 100% my belief too. Get someone there like Epps and they tend to have some success. It just takes a helluva lot more work there given all the factors.

Look, I don't think they'd be a power in the OMC, but it's their best fit.

Bad look for Branson.....We can't compete so let create a conference we can for sure win.

How did Neosho do in wrestling, figure they would have to be one of the better schools.
I think Neosho wrestling has been middle of the pack in COC recently. Someone else mentioned their softball team - it was outstanding this year. Probably will be again next year. They are typically good at soccer and track as well. Things change over time with most schools. 10 years ago they had one of the tougher football teams in the coc.

Carthage wresting used to also be pretty solid but I think it's trended down. Same with volleyball. Softball has actually been a lot better than last 2 years. Boys basketball has been slightly better but still one of the bottom in the COC. All of those sports have relatively new coaches so I think that could be part of it. Carthage just hired what I think will be a good baseball coach and they will be building a new facility so it's possible they will get better but they have a long way to go.

Webb City softball has been down the last couple years, but I think they will get better again. Baseball will be one of their more reliable sports moving forward I suspect.

Overall I agree with the comment that all schools will have a chance to compete in at least a few sports in a given year. But there are some that will be dominated by springfield. I dont think Joplin area will dominate in anything with regularity.

Well, as I've said before, this will lead (over time) to the end of Glendale being competitive in the major sports.

I guess I'll just have to look forward to the boys golf season in the spring.

Glendale will be phenomenal in baseball this spring and has the areas best player, but I guess that doesn't matter to you.

Welcome to the COC. It's a meat grinder in every sport. But if you will commit to things and build a program it will make you better. No nights off.

Hopefully the kids over at Glendale arent as defeated by this move as you see to be.

Sorry but I just don't see it. I don't see how their sports will deteriorate any more than Carthage or Joplin or Neosho. I think the COC will be good for Glendale and Glendale will be good for the COC. That's just my opinion of course, you know Glendale better than me.

Plus I can see a cute friendship forming between Webb City and Glendale since they share each others somewhat uncommon color scheme.

And everyone has to admit Glendale's logo is without a doubt one of the best high school logos I've seen.

The football "kids" will be in five years when we're in the same position Parkview, Hillcrest, and Central have been in the OC. I doubt SPS will move Glendale to an indy or another conference then, the program will just be allowed to die.

As far as baseball goes, I do the baseball website. So, I know damn well what kind of team they'll have. But what about five years or ten years from now???

You see, unlike some people, I think past the end of my nose!!

"commit to things and build a program"....easy for some schools to say. Not so much at Glendale. I've seen it for over 27 years now.

Great logo. About the only thing that's been done at that school over the last 15 years that I approve of.

Friendship in Webb City in most sports, but football will be a blood-letting year after year after year after year. We'll only be competitive if Webb City is down, not because we're any good. Trust me! I know!

I don't mean ALL sports at Glendale will deteriorate, but the major sports will suffer tremendously. Bank on it! Baseball will be okay ONLY as long as the current talent level continues. I recall '07-'14 losing to Nixa over and over again. Also, losing to Webb City over and over again. Also, losing to Ozark over and over again.

Golf, Swimming/Diving, & Soccer will continue as usual.

You need to understand that a bloodletting at the hands of Webb City is an anual rite of passage most COC members have endured since it's inception. The last few years have been a bit different but trust me Glendale won't be alone in repeatedly losing to WC if the cardinals get back to their winning ways. There are a few teams that have never beat Webb City as far as I know.

Aside from football I just don't see how Glendale will be worse off than Carthage, Neosho and Joplin. You may be overestimating how good these schools are at the other major sports.
