First, I think Mshsaa got the numbers for class 2-5 wrong. I removed all schools moving to 8 man, added the Clayton/Brentwood co-op and add Pleasant Hope and KC Kipp, who appear to have varsity schedules. That equaled 308 schools. With class 6 at 42, class 1 at 36, class 2-5 averages out to 57/58 per class. So either Mshsaa is flat out lying or they know of 10 schools not playing 11 man next season.

Second, you'll notice enrollment #s are different for public and charter schools. I pulled those from DESE. They are the current 9th thru 11th grade classes currently being reported.

Third, you will also notice it will cause private schools to bump in classes as well. For example, you will find Lutheran North in class 4.

they're is Probably 7 Schools won't be in 11-Man this year. The 4 that Went to 8-man the Clayton/Brentwood Co-op and the 2 Closing KC schools Central and Northeast if they do.

The COC will have 3 class 6 schools and 2 more who could get there within 5 years. Republic is much more likely than Carthage.

I like your version better than mine

I just wonder how in the world Kearney’s high school population is on a shrinking trend since the city itself has done nothing but grow. Maybe it’s all just old people moving in?

I’m glad it was decided to protect class one. Maybe fewer schools will opt to 8-man because of it.
I know there’s a dislike about adding a class but I think it would have been beneficial to have two sections of 32 team in class one.
What has happened has ticked off 50ish teams that have moved up a class.
So things were better for 36 teams and worse for the 50ish teams that moved up

Should just divide the total by 6 .
But then the big schools would whine

Looks like they are "coddling" Class 1 now...right, Veer?

Somebody has to be the smallest school in each class...and likewise somebody has to be the biggest in each class.

Just like "There IS no Perfect playoff format" that will suit every single school...there IS no perfect way to divide all the schools into their respective classes and districts.

If your school is one of the largest in your class...you probably like the way the classes fall.

If you are one of the smallest schools in your class...you probably hate it.

The lines have to be drawn somewhere...unless we want to revert to Indiana Hoosier Basketball format and just put everybody in one class.

What could be unfair about 6 equal classes

Yes I removed those schools with the exception of the KC schools and the schools district seems to have modified their decision and closed a few elementary schools

Actually it is the opposite. Very young families are moving here. Once these kids all reach HS age things will change fast here.

I didn’t a actually think old folks were moving in. I’m just amazed that the HS numbers have declined over the last several cycles. It doesn’t seem logical.

It is a weird anomaly in my opinion. The upper middle class neighborhood across 33 continues to build like crazy and most of the move ins are 20-something families with little kids. The swimming pool went from adult friendly to pre-teen frenzy the past five years.

wouldn't it be comical for Archie to move back to 11 man and see Adrian get pushed to class 2 because of it...
I am pretty sure under that scenario Adrian would remain 11 man. The way I read it, they will let class 1 go to 42 if 8 man teams go back to 11.

The more I look at this the more I don't like it. 36 teams in class 1 is a really low number. I keep leaning towards the idea of splitting all 6 classes evenly.

Curious what the difference in the DESE numbers and MSHAA numbers are. Because like you i'm seeing some wild variations (Carrollton for example)

Young families can't afford the price spiked on new housing. That has flattened out the families with children from moving in. Starter homes in Kearney/Smithville are $350,000-850,000. New housing, but double income with three school-aged kids not moving there.

Have you been to my sister's neighborhood to which I am referring (west side of 33 coming into town from the south)? Little kids and young families all over the place. Getting ready to head home from work will do the Roosterville "country" drive totally shocking all the huge home construction ongoing in that area! Where are people getting all this money?
