Sure has been boring on here. Pena will be a good pickup, but MM has to use him and that seems unlikely.
If they sign Heyward then that means Moss, Adams, Grichy, or Honny will be our #4 hitter. That makes me very queasy. Lynn having surgery could turn out to be a blessing if the Birds go out and spend some money on a free agent. pitcher. I'm not sure they will do this. If they go cheap this winter it could be the end of their playoff run.

Cards were supposedly second on Price. Makes me wonder if Hey isn't coming back - not sure I could see them signing two guys for $50 M per year total. Would love for them to prove me wrong.

I agree. I think they will full court press on Heyward now. That means offensively they will be very much like the last 2 years which is scary. At least Price didn't land in the NL. Hopefully Greinke is next on the list.

Pena signing won't matter a bit. He won't play much. Yadi will catch another 1100 innings. Pena will just make it worse when MM doesn't use him.

Can't argue with that. MO has made this move to help Yadi but the bottom line is MM has to use him

I'm surprised that the Royals dealt for Cruz... I thought that they were very satisfied with Drew Butera as their backup catcher. One of them will either end up in Omaha or be traded next spring.

Business is now picking up! Cruz is moved for a rookie leaguer. Just finish it off by signing JHey and collect the 3rd place Central plaque.

If I remember right you are always wrong with your predictions concerning the Cardinals.so your last post gives me more hope than ever. Thanks Eags

I mean, I'll admit I'm often wrong...and Cards' predictions are probably up there. IIRC, I think I said 86 wins and the playoffs last year. Granted 100 is a far cry from 86...but the playoffs bow out...I gotta get credit for that, right??? And at the end of the season, we were playing like an 86 win team...I get props there too??? I'll take any moral victory I can!

Seriously though, if they don't get an arm...and sign JHey...which it sorta appears what will happen...the rotation is worse...and the lineup is the same. Or at least it is to me.

I agree Eags and your voice is usually pretty reasonable. I just couldn't resist giving your chain a jerk. I agree this offense looks like it is not changing and the pitching hasn't improved yet, in fact it has gotten worst. Lackey, and Lynn are gone and the other 3 starters go into spring training have question marks. It's early in the shopping season and some of the best options for pitching are gone. I am hoping MO has some secret Santa gifts in store for us.

My chain could use a...well, nevermind.

He could make me happy with a cleanup hitter and a front-end starter in my stocking...or Sarah Hyland...I'm good with either.

I'd love to see another mid to top level starter, that or use a 6 man rotation a bit. Geez, Waino is a stud but he is getting miles on him, Garcia looked good for a year but....... does he end up back on the bench with some injury? No Lynn all year but my concern is Wacha. The guy just petered out down the stretch. Would a six man rotation help that, not sure but its an idea. I would enjoy seeing JHey here but Adams needs to decide if he wants to pound the ball or not. Our best long ball threat is our lead off man!! Heck move Carp to 3rd, but its obvious he prefers the lead off. Either we get the arm, preserve the ones we have or get a bomber! Resting the arms is easier said than done in the best division in baseball, bar none

Sure hope MO does something to improve this team, sure look like the Cubs are

Cubs getting Lackey seems like a slap in the face to me. I have always said I trust MO and I stand by this so he must have a plan. I sure hope he starts to show his hand soon because I am beginning to sense that they are not near as ready to spend money as they say they are. Probably are going to break the bank on Heyward and I see that as a neutral move for the offense which is bad because our offense needs to improve not stay where it has been the last 2 years. Also it doesn't improve our pitching staff that has lost 2 starters from last year.

Will Heyward even match his 2015 numbers??? The offense could be worse.
Big off season signings are aptly called the "hot stove" because Mo won't touch them.

With pitchers coming off the board MO now claims they will be looking for shorter term and less expensive pitchers to sign. Uhg (Lackey goes to Cubs guess he was too expensive or 2 years too long.). What happen to all the bold talk about how they were going to spend money. Looks like they are going to put all their eggs in one basket.(Heyward) I don't see how this helps the teams offense. Come on MO get busy and start improving this team..

Good luck on Heyward. Cubs are after him too.
I'm not a big believer in Heyward. It gives them the same offense as last year and that was not good. Price was the big splash I was hoping for and they backed off of that.

Heyward price scares me for the cubs, but he fits very well for multiple needs.

I wanted Price and I genuinely believe he actually wanted to come to the NL/Cubs. But dear lord.....who could turn down that Boston contract and sleep at night?

That's just a lot of dough for a guy that is still basically an unknown offensively...or if not unknown...a lot of money for what he's been most of his career. But you're right, he does fit very well with the Cubs current OF'ers. They've got the bangers, need a bit of leather. That's the exact reason I'm not all giddy about him becoming a Bird for that money. Now, if his signing leads to a trade to get a banger...then I'm all in. But if JHey is signed and no other moves follow to add some offense, it seems like money spent in the wrong place.

The Cardinals are handcuffed right now with Holliday and potentially Molina very soon. Move one to 1st and replace accordingly.

Doubt that the infielders would want Holliday at first and who would take Yadi's place.

Hence being handcuffed. I doubt the pitchers want Holliday in LF. Molina is getting to the point that you need a new catcher who can take over.....and soon. I mean I hope they keep running both of them out there until their mid 40s,but I'm also bias.

A guy who knows he's set for life no matter which offer he took? Why not go where you would like be and be slightly less rich?

Grienke laughs at you
Why go where you DON'T want to go when you'll be filthy rich either way? He could be quite wealthy AND enjoy life. I guess it's hard for a guy that don't make as much in a year as he makes pitching in 1 game every 5 days 6 months out of the year to understand his 'why'.

In 3 years he'll be gettin a little old to opt out of a deal like that and expect anything better.
You say that now, but it worked out pretty well for Sabathia. Given the rate at which revenue is growing...

And the alternative is Boston still owes him $120 M for 4 years if he gets hurt or starts sucking. Not a bad deal.

Because the alternative isn't really any better in a lot of cases. Plenty of guys will take a little less to play for a contender, but not that much less. Money you turn down just ends up in someone else's pocket, it's not like they are going to lower ticket prices because David Price settled for $25 M a year.

So you don't think he would been very rich in Chicago, or St.Louis, or where ever it was that he would LIKE to have gone? Like I said, that kind of money is so far over my head I couldn't even imagine it.

Boston has won a couple rings recently, it's not like he went to Miami. He knows they will be a contender soon. Toronto's window is not long and the Yanks aren't firing on full cylinders. Boston was a .500 team on runs scored vs. runs allowed. Their rotation was awful. Replacing one of their terrible starters with him makes them at least an 86 win team. They are 1-2 other guys away from being the best team in the AL East.

I wasn't talking about whether or not they can win, just if he wanted to go some where else, as was suggested on here, he would have still gotten a huge contract.

This is exactly what has been mentioned on this board the past two years. You are correct. Holliday is an albatross around their neck. The birds is in bad shape. Who is the next SS, catcher, 1B, slugger??????????

Big Jed is coming to the rescue.

Putting myself in Heywards shoes, I would sign with the Cubs right now. He is a winning ballplayer and is very good defensively and on the bases, but he can't carry a team offensively. The Cubs don't need him to.

Word out in KC yesterday that the Cards may make a run at Alex Gordon. Is that true and if so, what do you all think about it ?
