Girls Head Coaching Jobs

There's 2 or 3 interesting comments to the article about Talbert going to Nixa on the Ozarks Sports Zone Facebook page having to do with the Fair Grove superintendent.

I just read those comments. The Fair Grove people are not happy but no one is mad at the coach.

No, not one single person in any of the comments I've seen to the various articles about her going to Nixa had a bad thing to say about Talbert and in fact many raved about her in a positive way. She's obviously held in very high esteem both as a coach and a person and educator. I think Nixa is getting a good one.

I have heard from some Fair Grove people that there are plenty of politics there involving administrators and their kids that play sports and it sounds like it could have been a potential reason why she left a team that returns everyone but their big from last season. That and the obvious reason that Nixa is a great opportunity for any coach.

So now who ends up at FG? They have a ton of talent right now. Maybe their Sup will coach em lol

Fair Grove has 1 district title the last 10 year. She had a really good class come through won State and parlayed it into the Nixa job. Good for her. Thinking she is one of the areas best coaches is a stretch though. It's hard to believe she was the best Nixa could come up with.

Haven't they been in the same district with Strafford for most of the past decade?

Well to be fair they had the Strafford Frank dynasty teams in their district for most of those years, but they had teams good enough to win most other districts and more during those 4-5 years

I never said she is one of the area’s best coaches. I believe she is better than Pendegrass and much better than Perryman. Class 3 in SW Mo is much more competitive than Class 6 in SW Mo. Pendegrass has had more talent during his time at Poo than anyone else in SW Mo.

I show they lost to Strafford in Districts only 3 times in those 10 years and one of those times was a year they were 8-17. 2019 was the only year they were good enough to win districts and lost to Strafford.

The 2015-16 team was good enough to win districts as well and they lost by 10 to a 30-3 Strafford team that eventually won the Class 3 title.

Then they had two other good teams that lost to Clever in districts, and then Clever lost to Strafford.

The point being that they have been in a really tough district every season with her there.

I'm not even saying that she's one of the best coaches around, because I've watched them and questioned some of her in game decisions, but I do think she can do better than Perryman with the same amount of talent, and she seems to be well liked.

Good luck to her. I guess my point is Nixa is a really good job. I think going from Perryman to Talbert is more of a lateral move.

I am pretty much in agreement with Ftballfan. Just seems like a little bit of a reach to me when it looked like Pendergrass was an option and there.

CJ doesn’t have much in the pipeline from what you guys have said on this forum and thus it’s not a desirable job for someone with a lot of success at another school, like Talbert. Some coaches who get the best jobs have generally done a good job at “riding the wave”, getting jobs at schools with talent or upcoming talent, winning a lot of games, and then getting out when things dry up and going to a better landing spot talent wise. It’s somewhat of a game of smoke and mirrors.

He was done with Health and out of the classroom. And check the baseball staff.
That’s not correct. Has been teaching Health. And still would’ve been. Maybe I should’ve said Poo doesn’t have a new HEAD baseball coach. I thought that is what you meant. In any regard, trust me, your info is inaccurate.

Have any of you folks that know about all these openings heard anything about the Poplar Bluff girls basketball head coach or assistant coach job? As far as a I know both are open, the head coach moved to head coach for baseball and the assistant is the head coach for softball.

This is correct. A bit more to it than that, but that’s the short version.
I can’t imagine that the idea of Pendergrass being the head coach went over well with the players (one is still there at nixa) and family who transferred from Kickapoo to nixa to supposedly get away from him

No clue if that was the antecedent to the blowback, but you're pretty much on point with how it went down.

I have a correction to my post about P.B. basketball. The head coach resigned as girls basketball and took the head baseball job and the assistant resigned and took the assistant softball job.
I'm told that leaves them with no teaching positions for the the girls basketball openings so they'll have to find someone that is already in the system to fill those jobs.

That’s honestly the fear of the community. That it’s so late Bell will just do it.

Larsen applied for Kickapoo job. Maybe he’d go to FG. Add his daughter this year and they might be best team in area. Add his younger daughter next year and there’d be not much doubt.

That sounds like an illegal transfer to me. Did the family move? That family will never be happy with any coach UNLESS their daughter leads the team in scoring.

My understanding is that they've lived in nixa all along but were using dad’s address when they attended Kickapoo

Did Larsen apply at Nixa? Would think yes...and if they weren't going to hire Pendergrass would be a little surprised they wouldn't hire Dustin knowing his two daughters would bolster that roster.

Dont know. But he doesn’t teach. That’s a non-starter a lot of places.

No word yet on the Fair Grove coach search, but I've heard that Elfrink and possibly Hepler turned it down.

Soley Webb has been hired to coach the girls at P.B.

Is the thought of working for Fair Grove’s Superintendent making good candidates reluctant? It should be appealing job. They should be state contenders for a couple of years

3R fan or anyone more over that way....any word on new Van Buren Girls bball coach?

I haven't heard anything and my wife who see all that kind of stuff on facebook said she hasn't seen that.

Houston Herald reporting that the new Girls coach at Houston is Micah Lee (formerly Micah Stephens) who was the all time leading scorer at Thayer.

My wife looked it up and Torrie Ricker is the new Van Buren girls bb coach. She is from Bismarck and has been an assistant coach for the Park Hills girls for a few years.
