I am guessing he is at Joplin until the junior high kids are in high school. They don't have as much talent let's say.

It appears Jasper is doing a fine job despite his 1-3 record against Carthage. I would assume Coach Jasper feels like Coach McGinity did at halftime against Dallas. Joplin is gonna need "miles and miles of heart" to even the series back up..
As someone who mainly follows Carthage this is kind of an irritating stat to be 3-1 against a team who is 4-1 against Webb City while themselves being 1-6 against Webb City.

Teams match up differently to different teams, I'd guess that's at least partially a reason.

It is. I credit a lot of it to Webb City's defensive strategy. They force Carthage into doing things that aren't their bread and butter and it creates more opportunities for turnovers, penalties, and stalled out drives.

I also think 25 years of mostly losing gets in the heads of Carthage where Joplin is a relatively new opponent with a clean slate and they are able to go into that game with a lot more confidence.

Joplin's only win against Carthage was by stopping a 2pt conversation, the others have all been pretty lopsided. Carthage is really the only regular opponent that Joplin has struggled with. I'm looking forward to seeing these two teams play in a few weeks!

Is it a coincidence that a coach like Roderique that is wildly successful and has been around a while is experienced enough to take the one or two things a team like Carthage likes to do away, and then see if they beat them without their bread and butter?

It ain't rocket surgery.

And Webb usually has enough of those 5'7" 155 pounders that run a 5.0 40 around to pull it off.

To me, it's the difference between a good coach and a great one. Plenty of coaches are good enough at what they do to not change anything and win a good number of games. But the REALLY good ones are able to tweak a little of what they do to exploit (or take away) just enough to give them an edge. Read an RMK book once and he talked about how they would ALWAYS run reverse action motion. But when he had Alford they set a helluva lot more screens for him than anyone else. Or when they had a guy like Calbert Chaney they found ways to get the ball reversed to his side and delay coming back to the ball, obviously giving him time to create off the dribble with space. Man, the little differences (and a healthy dose of luck), can be the difference in 5-4 and 7-2.

Joplin Eagles goal each year? Beat Webb City.

Win a state championship in Class 6 or any other accomplishment? Meh.

you say this realizing they were in the Class 6 title game just a few years ago 🤣🤣🤣

Joplin won the OC in their last year as members, won the COC in their second year as members.

Also that year, they lost in the Class 6 championship game.

this should make year 4 out of 5 that they finish in the top 3 of the COC, even in their one down year, they still finished in the top half of the conference.

In conference matchups the last 5 seasons in the COC(including this season thus far)

Carthage: 39-4
Webb: 35-8
Joplin: 35-9
To date they are 35-9 in the COC

I think I speak for a lot of people on here who thought that initially it would take Joplin a few years to be able to contend with the top dogs in the COC once they joined the conference but boy did they show up ready.

Curtis Jasper has done a hell of a job

He has but winter is coming for Joplin. Both of their junior high teams are really bad.

Pulling the we win championships (in a smaller easier division) card is how the Webb fans try to change the narrative that Joplin keeps beating them.

I know it gets on a lot of people’s nerves that they win a few games here and there, but I’m wondering: should Joplin not be beating them most years?

Ozark is the program that has no excuse being as bad as it is. I will say both of their junior high teams are pretty good.

JV has been awful for two years too. And their frosh are ok at best this year. I’d say this is their last bite at the apple for a few yrs.

Meaning no disrespect when I say this but you all need to take a better look at Joplin starting Varsity roster this year. There is literally only 6 or 7 Senior starters. The rest are Junoirs and Sophomores and 2 starting Freshman. #44 TE is a freshman 6-2 205 Lb. #9 that they had on Hudson Moore the other night at CB... #70 on the D-Line is 6-3 290 Lb. Sophomore. #56 on the D-Line is a 6-2 290 LB. Sophomore. Joplin has only 2 Seniors on the O-line and 1 Senior at WR... and 1 at RB that has been starting lately with his twin brother on defense but that offense will be back next year. Joplin is going to be very good next season.

I agree about next year. I am talking about after that.

Your right on that. I think the JV team has 1 win so far. I believe the Freshman team has 1 loss to Nixa and a Tie with Webb City. Jasper's son is Center on the Freshman team. I believe they sent him in to center on the block FG attempt at Carthage.

Joplin will be awesome next year. The decline will start the next year.
Next year I think Webb, Nixa, Joplin and Republic will be good. Not sure about Carthage but they seem to always be good no matter how many they graduate. Nixa will have the VanGilder brothers from Joplin other brother #5 to replace Green... he is very good. He should pick up where Green leaves off.

Joplin's freshman team is pretty dang good. Have you looked at Nixa's JV and Freshmen teams this year, though. Wow, it looks like they're going to be very good the next few years.

I was waiting for someone to pull out the enrollment card.

overall the conference voted them in so it didn’t seem to matter enough then, but hey losing can make you bitter. I’ve been there myself.

The enrollment card? That’s not a card; that’s math. There is a reason we have classifications based on enrollment. I think most would agree that there is typically an advantage to having nearly twice the amount of people to choose from. It’s not always that the starters are better, position for position. It’s usually because there are more and better backups in a sport that is a war of attrition every year.
