Coaching openings

Hannibal is down to the final two candidates....people there are pissed and potentially will get worse.

Not just residents, but many people involved with the program. One from the outside that makes no sense at all. Bringing a new guy in, especially one from a really small school, will only set the program back. The other from within has had some serious issues in the past and was very close to being let go last summer. He also applied for another job. Nothing wrong with that, but his loyalty has been questioned for the last couple of years already. The DC wasn't given a second interview. He is highly thought of there by players, parents, etc. He is from there and brings a lot to the table. Hannibal returns a lot of players off of last years quarterfinal team and looks to be better. This could get real interesting in "America's Hometown."

Jeff Gschwender, the Hannibal Offensive Coordinator, officially named as HC there. I just read it straight off the Hannibal football Facebook page, so if there aren't media releases there will be very shortly.

Crazy how someone can go from the Supe and AD telling the former HC to fire you, to being named the new HC like 6 months later.

I've heard some shady stuff was going on that definitely was not Hamner's fault. Unless you consider him keeping unloyal people around his fault.

The last two years have been strange for Hannibal football...and it wasn't all the fault of Hamner. I'm not really at liberty to say anymore though.

Come on guys... give us a little more!

I have Hannibal connections but have never taught or coached there. Everything I hear is second or even third hand. I don't have reason to doubt anything I've been told; I"m just comfortable going into many details when I'm hearing it by those means. Sorry to pique your interest! lol

Can someone clarify; was Jeff Gschwender, Hannibal's new football coach. Was he fired or let go from Bowling Green? I have someone that keeps asking, so I thought I would ask a broader pool. Maybe neither?

Jeff Gschwender was hired as HC at Hannibal

As far as I know, he left on his own accord but I can't say for sure.

Pretty sure he was forced out. I know his brother had some legal issues there and was let go...not sure if directly related to him being forced out too.

Braby did a heck of job at Tipton. But he also had the Bill Snyder approach to scheduling - loved him some cupcakes. Hurt several of his really, really good teams in the state playoffs. Just didn't get tested until the state playoffs and they just weren't ready for it. Shame because he had some teams that could have won state or get to the finals.

The schedule routinely included Southern Boone, North Callaway and South Callaway. People say it hurt them, but in all reality only 2 years did they have a loaded team. One of those years they had the lead, up 11 in the 4th on Thayer I believe. Couple turnovers and Thayer converting a 4th and 4 for a TD late was the difference. Kids made plays. Nothing at all to do with scheduling. I believe one year Tipton beat South Callaway and South Callaway knocked Blair Oaks out of the play-offs.

I know for sure That Braby was at Sweet Springs in 82 and then I think he has went straight through from Maysville to Tipton. That is 39 years.
Trivia fact...I coached against Braby in his rookie year at Sweet Springs when I was at Santa Fe and his Greyhounds won 48-46 in triple overtime.

We then coached against each other last season when his Tipton Cardinals came to Kingdom City to play our North Callaway Thunderbirds.

Might be a record for most years between two coaches playing against each other for the first and last time...nearly a 40 year span!

DAMN we are OLD!

I was talking with Weik about your run yesterday.

1. Congrats on the coming retirement.
2. You were aged when Weik said you were coaching when he was PLAYING.
3. I was 4 years old when you won your district title with the Dragons.
