Coaches Jobs

In another part, I coached at Stockton as an assistant in 2004 during the first of many football staff changes. We had a board with a member who had a son in the program who was average. But because they were AWESOME in junior high and beat up on some lesser teams, all this team needed was a great coach and they would have to book the rooms in St. Louis. They got rid of us against the recommendations of administration, then tried to get Jack Randolph- he said no, tried for another top tier- he laughed then they got Paul Carney who did great things for the program but the same with Coach Carney- he didnt win although he had a HUGE impact on the community - he left to take Osceola to the final 4x. Since then Stockton has been through Welch, Edwards, Kansas and now has Luke ( Please take care of him).
Some times you have a board with no clue as Stockton has had, and as I learned over the years and accepted- You learn as a coach and as long as you know you did every thing for the kids that you could, go find a place that deserves and appreciates what coaching is really about.
student taught in Stockton in the spring of 02
worked with the football coach there all semester as well as the really good girls basketball coach
just missed you coming in

Regardless of overall athletic ability, thought his teams were always very disciplined. True testament of a good teacher.

The one and only.

Mtn View Liberty is now open. Coach Kenega is retiring.

He took over after Acklin left.

If I remember correctly, they went with an outside hire that was from out of state after Acklin left and he bailed before even showing up or something, Kenaga was going to retire or at least be done with coaching, and then after the guy bailed, Kenaga took over that summer.

Tad may have some more insight to this than I do.

Y’all think Spittler is going to try to get the job?

After Acklin left Mtn View, he went to Mtn Home to be the OC with Ary, then came back to Missouri after one year and worked with Spittler(his former player) at Cabool as either the OC or just an assistant so he could finish the 1 year he needed for his 20 in Missouri, then he went back to Mtn Home and is the OC there again.
I wonder if Spittler would get Acklins endorsement. He’s younger, but he’s done better with Cabool than I think anyone thought he would these last 5-6 years and is a Mtn View-Liberty alum who played for Acklin and Kenaga

I would say it is very likely that Spittler puts his name in the hat to be the next coach. Seems like a solid resume. Liberty grad who played for Acklin. Head coach who did pretty well at Cabool. I would say the only way he does not get Acklins endorsement is if a son of Coach Acklin wants the job. I know there are several folks who are very high on one of his sons who is their special teams coach. But he would be pretty young with no head coaching experience.

Can confirm about Coach Hopkins. Had him as a coach and teacher. Was fantastic at both. Glad to see he continued having success.

Sounds like no coordinator or playcalling experience either. I wanna say spittler is early 30s with 5-6 years head coaching experience in that conference.
After Jaelon, Acklins next oldest son can’t be more than what…24? Just spitballing

I would say that is pretty close. I think he graduated from college in 2020.

With a name like Spitter... He has to be good.

Honestly that can be said about alot of schools today. There was a time when all high schools no matter the size had a Freshmen JV and Varsity team. Today many school can barely field a decent Varsity and JV forget about the freshmen.

Schools IMHO don't make it easy for kids who want to participate in athletics today. Many schools had 7th hour athletics you started an hour earlier and let the kids out an hour earlier. Kids then had more time for Homework jobs and Family. School admins say they want what's best for kids but then want to make it harder to participate in sports. Yet you practice Band, Speech and Debate Choir just to name a few all during school hours? Why not start sports the last hour? They are all extra circular activates? Then take basketball where you might have to get up at 4 just to make a practice because you don't have enough GYMs... just seems weird to me no wonder many kids and parents don't want to be part of it, especially today when many parents are working two jobs hard to get kids to all these places.

And now you have soccer at a lot of schools. And swimming. What? Didn't have that back in the boomer days.

Word is that a certain HC that just stepped down from another SW MO program and has roots in the Mountain View area is interested in being the HC at Liberty Mountain View.

First name that came to my mind when I saw the MV-Liberty coach retired.

We shall see. I didn’t even think about that.

He prefers to run the ball a lot more than pass though so I wonder if that’s going to count against him.

Liberty has been a spread passing school from the mighty mites all the way up through HS for probably almost 2 decades now

Who’s this man who must not be named?

That would be an interesting hire, like you said more of a running style than throwing. But strong ties to the school.

I think he would be a great hire. I just think it would be a toss up as to whether or not they would.
Especially when you’re going back to coach in your home town, a lot of this comes down to does he have any one on the school board who has a reason not to like him.
Small town BS you know.

I think he would far and away be the most qualified on all levels, alum, college player, 17 years of head coaching experience which for the majority of his career was in very competitive medium to large school conferences and a state title under his belt.
It’s a no brainer if he’s interested. But would they give him time to implement his system.
It would be a big change.
