Father Tolton-----71---Can Tolton hang with Kansas City Barstow the defending class 3 state champions with all top players returning from last season? Father Tolton appears to be making a case for some doubt.
St. Louis CBC----61

Chicago Elite Classic
St. Louis Chaminade---86
Miller Grove--------------77

Lutheran South--------------------------63
Southheast Missouri--Cape Central-56

Metro Catholic-----Desmet------68
Rockwood----------Lafayette----47

Can someone give detail on the Father Tolton game?

Well that's not good for CBC to lose to a class 3. Why'd they even play them, lose lose situation right?

Father Tolton is not just any ole class 3 team. They are class 5 caliber in a class 3 division. Can't imagine them losing to any class 3 team. Jontay is a force inside along with his already proven brother and they have a great supporting cast and Point Guard. They are a special team in Missouri this year.

dray3654, Who wins between Columbia's Father Tolton and Kansas City Barstow the defending class 3 state champion with all their top players returning? Class 3 should be one of the most exciting final four championships in years.

I have locked two of our 5 state champions.

Class 3--Barstow the defending state champions. The Tolton ( Mid-Mo top team ) win over St. Louis CBC appears to have Father Tolton in the conversation as a potential class 3 state champions but I believe they need a few more high level wins to defeat Kansas City's # 2 team.

Class 4--I've got St. Louis Vashon as the team to beat in class 4.

Class 5--Chaminade---I feel really good on this pick.

I believe the way the state playoff format runs this year it could very well workout where Barstow and Father Tolton are the championship game and if the Porter boys learn to stay out of foul trouble Barstow is going to have to beat them from the outside. The brother duo protect the rim well, but they have been playing in foul trouble a bit early on. I believe your class 4 and 5 picks are pretty accurate and who won that Vashon Tourn.? I watched Chaminade play Oak Hill on ESPN and they are talented. Some major talent in Missouri currently.

Best talent does not always win. Tolton is thin on the bench. Good thing the Pilot Grove transfer became eligible. They will contend for the state title if they stay healthy. I believe Vashon will travel to Tolton this season. It is great to see them load up their schedule more this year than in the past. That will only help them. Jr. was in foul trouble and fouled out against CBC, but yet still had probably 25 points. Any coach would take that on a sub par night for a kid.

Vashon has 11 new kids on their varsity roster this year according to max preps. Would be nice add two 6'7 and two 6'8 kids to a roster. Were those kids on JV last year because that is a HUGE JV lineup???

Tolton has indeed improved their schedule to improve their chances for a class 3 final four or even a state championship. Tolton has already defeated a very good class 5 St. Louis CBC team.

Vianney ( Class 5 )--Tolton @ Mizzou arena on 1-23-16--Do not underestimate Vianney in this one. If Carte'Are Gordon ( Man among boys ) comes to play, the game is on. Zack Colletta 6'2" college level guard can play with anyone. Eric Krus 6'4" Junior can get it done with the top players as well. Vianney has other fundamental players as well.

Vashon ( Class 4 ) @Tolton--2-13-16--6:00 PM--This will be a good test for both teams. If Tolton can win this one, Kansas City Barstow will have high level competition for the class 3 state championship.

From my understanding, a school that beat Tolton in the paly-offs last year, closed their doors and a lot of the kids transferred to Vashon from there.

Wait a private closed and the kids just all got to pick where they wanted to go? And Metros picks are

Class 3- Private with the possibility of a different private winning.

Class 4- Public which accepted a bunch of private transfers.

Class 5- A private school.

Are there any class 1-2 privates out there?

Hang, Tony Irons coached @ class 3 power Madison Prep last season, they closed their school. Tony Irons was named the Vashon coach and all top players from Madison Prep enrolled @ Vashon. The St. Louis public schools have a rule that any student can enroll @ any of their public schools like Vashon if they have room. It appears the Vashon principal had available space for the entire Madison Prep team to enroll @ Vashon. Vashon has a very young, tall and athletic team. The Woverines have three 6'8" players and two 6'7" players and only one is a senior. The future is now for Tony Irons and his Vashon Woverines.

Sacred Heart on class 2. If they get passed Mid Buch this year they can be there. But on the Tolton/Barstow subject. Barstow returned their top 3 players from last year. Have a stud at PG in Gilyard, Shea Rush can play and Jeriah Horne is a very good big. They will be battle tested as well. That game should be fun to watch in March.

Madison Prep wasn't a private. They were a college prep HS in the SLPS district.

I thought that is what it was but was not for sure of the school. Just replying to how the big kids got there. Should bring back the tradition to Vashon for sure! Hopefully they will bring back the "Back by Popular Demand" hooded sweatshirts at the final four!

Sacred Heart seems to have transfers from conference schools on their roster each year. No matter. They are well coached and play hard. Depends on if they have to match up with Iberia or Skyline right away. Lincoln will have a good group too.

That is true about Sacred Heart. They are always tough. Skyline should give them a challenge.

The Vashon Woverines dress and act like members in a church choir when entering the gym and before they get dressed for the game. The team is mannerly and all dress alike with blue t's with a big V on the front. I saw no baggy pants and no disrespect toward anyone. The Vashon fans are orderly and show respect for their opponents. Tony's dad Floyd Irons the former coach @ Vashon is always @ the game but keeps a low profile and roots silently for his former team. I told Floyd @ Vianney he should loosen up a bit and try to enjoy himself more. He replied, thanks for being my friend.

I believe Vashon will win the " Sportmanship award " if they make it to the final four but is that a reward for a 4th place finish.

Vashon is also in the P.B. Showdown this year. Not sure how it's going to work out at E.T. Peters Gym because of all the construction on school grounds. There is currently NO street, or parking, in front the gym and only one door left on the front of the gym to enter the building. Unless they get a LOT of work done in the next 3 weeks there will be very limited parking with only one way in and out on the south end of the parking lot to Harper street. When leaving if you turn left you go to Main Street and you better know the area if you want to get out of town or to your motel. Turn right and it leads to business 67 one block away where there is NO traffic light. Should be interesting if they insist on playing the games there this year.

Thanks for the information but, What does it mean to be a college prep HS? I'm not familiar with this.
As part of a public district, I assume there is an application process of the students inside the district. Obviously the goal would be to educate students by focusing on preparation for college.

And play basketball. Not to mention they can 'reclassify' and have a do-over on whatever grade they were in when they left the public school.

So how does a College Preparatory School lose accreditation and close its doors when with the application process they should have the best and brightest students.

Never underestimate the level of ineptitude and corruptness at SLPS. Ever.

That is kinda crazy. Looking at some articles kids went from Confluence Prep to Madison Prep and now to Vashon. MSHSAA has a good handle on things.

I remember something about that. I didn't really follow it closely enough to know specifics, but IIRC, Madison opened up as a prep and that's when the transfers occurred. No doubt a coincidence the same time as hiring a coach. Gotta remember, if not for the RFT blowing the lid off of Floyd Irons at Vashon, pretty unlikely MSHSAA would have ever done a thing.

They don't always get the best and brightest in academics. Some get the best at basketball and they are supposed to get their grades up so they can play D-1 ball when they graduate.
