Buckle Up Webb City

thanks. Facts still remain. Webb City or its coach are challenged by Class 4 football.

I just wonder how JRod sleeps at night knowing he has not and will not ever prove his merit as a coach to you?
Damn, this whole house of cards sham of a football program about had everyone fooled until BP showed up and exposed it for what it is. We would have gotten away with it if not for you meddling kids!

Great coach to me. Seems like you're missing the point.

Its like a Boxer who's cleaned out their division and is clearly the undisputed champ at [Blank] Weight Class.
The next step is to usually move up a weight class.
Class 4 is clearly no longer any challenge, Class 6 will be a new and much more difficult challenge so some competitors may be tempted to move up.

What could possibly be so difficult to understand about this?

If you're him, would you uproot your family to move across the state for a job that might pay 20% more, but will also have a higher cost of living to teach them an entirely new scheme that might take several years to develop? He's reportedly turned down several college coaching offers. IMO, if he's looking for a challenge, he would move up to college, not another High School. Especially not another high school in MO.

It is ridiculous to say that Class 6 is a more difficult challenge than Class 4. If you are in Class 6 you are playing the teams you should be playing and during the regular season you are often playing down. Class 6 might be easier considering there are only 32 teams.

You got the webbflakes triggered.
Well done.
I think some of them attach too much of their self worth to a bunch of boys playing a game. When their program drops a few notches it will be interesting to watch.
Maybe it'll be like the year hville beat webb and carney for the title. This board was actually pretty decent that off season.

Class 6 has several good teams every year. Class 4 has several good teams some years.

"Good" is relative to your competition. People tend to compare Class 6 schools to the total body of Class 6, 5 and 4 teams and conclude they are good. But they should only be compared to each other.

Only Class 6 school that regularly plays down is Joplin or a school not in a large metro Area. DeSmet, Rock, CBC, Blue Springs, BSS, Lib North, Ray Pec etc etc doesnt play down at all.

And if you SERIOUSLY think that Class 4 is as competitive as Class 6 year in and year out. Competitive as in multiple good teams that have legitimate chances of winning it all then I dont think me and you should be having a conversation about HS football lol its not even close.

Ray Pec played down 3: Park Hill South, Belton and Platte County
Liberty North played down 4: Truman, St Joe Central, Park Hill South, Staley
Blue Springs South played Raytown, William Chrisman, Park Hill South
Blue Springs opened with William Chrisman
Desmet played Helias, Chaminade, Hazelwood Central, and Cape Central

You will play better teams in Class 6, but as a Class 6 school, you will be better too. And you get the opportunity to beat up on smaller schools as well.

All of the KC area class 6 schools played some games down a class or 2. Even Desmet played a a couple games down including one of them a class 4 team this year. Make that 2 class 4 teams.

I can buy the money argument. But to say that living in KC vs SWMO means a much better quality of life... is way off... I would say its the exact opposite.
Depends what part of KC you are talking about................there's NO place like JoCo KS............:):)

Every other school in the state has weak classes sometimes. Even schools that are much larger like Kickapoo and Nixa. There is some reason Webb hasn't had a down class in 30 years. No one is breaking any rules but there is no way over the past 30 years almost all of the best players in SW MO were all born within the Webb City school district lines. Most likely it is the parents of 4th graders who think their kid is a good football player moving them to WC, which is smart and there is nothing you can do about it. It is a plausible explanation and also legal.

They aren't born there but they do grow up there. I’d say it’s more preschoolers than 4th graders though. Probably half my social circle lives in Webb City though very few are actually ‘from’ there...probably 75% moved there (mostly from other nearby towns) in the last 10 years around the time their kids were just starting school. Many (but not all) said getting their kids in WC sports was the or at least a primary motivator.

Many of these parents are former athletes eager to see their kids succeed, the types that pay for private lessons, expensive club teams, dedicate lots of time and resources to sports. If even half these kids turn out to be reasonably athletic WC’s deck will be stacked with well trained and seasoned athletes for at least another 10 years. The steady influx of these types of families, combined with already high participation that is natural with a winning program is why Webb City never, ever runs out of talent and never has a down year by any normal standards.

There was a time when I felt like Webb City won tough, close games by practicing harder and playing smarter than everyone else. Their system leveled the playing field against teams with superior size and talent. They still use their winning system, but the difference now is that the playing field is often already tilted in their favor in terms of talent. So combine their system with the concentration of talent and you have a team that can turbo clock 95% of their opponents including the state runner up.

I don't doubt that there are a number of families that move here for their kids to play sports, but let's not forget that the Webb City school system is a very good school system. There are a lot of good reasons to move here. I also think that if we had scores of families with athletes moving here regularly, we would dominate other sports besides football. We don't do that regularly. I have come to know and understand coach Roderique over the years, and I think he is a coach that believes in teaching the fundamentals the right way and expects the kids to work hard and show up on time. I don't think our kids any more physically talented than any other school's kids but I do think we have an advantage psychologically based on our past experiences.

So you guys are ok with kids going to LN or other privates so that they can get a similar atmosphere that the kids at Webb City are getting.

Ignorant twit it has nothing to do with the boys. He’s more or less saying JROD is padding his numbers by playing down in such an easy Class. WTH does that have to do with the “boys”?

Something that is severely overlooked - the housing developments in Oronogo/outskirts of Webb City that have allowed many people to move into the district. The number of houses built in those areas over the last 15 or so years is astronomical compared to surrounding towns.

There have been a ton of apartment/duplexes go up in the SW side of town with more to be built as well so WC will continue to grow. With the new alignment Webb City has played their last game in Class 4.
