Blair Oaks vs Lamar

Lamar's D is legit, they have players on both side but if BO lives up to the hype (I have only seen highlights) should be a great contest for the title. I think it is BO game to lose.

BG relied heavily on their running offense and only made adjustments when they fell behind later on. You could see them keep trying the same thing over and over thinking we will just break through for another running TD like we all saw early in the game. BO made adjustments and contained them and did so over and over again. Once BG tried to make adjustments later on in the 2nd half it didn't work out too well since the passing game was not something BG wanted to do and was not consistent on. So many dominoes fell into place where they just could not keep up with BO late and stop their offense since their playmakers were tired.

When it comes to Maryville BO game, the BO defense was in tune up mode. They was tuning up and fixing issues in the game (especially on protecting the edge). This was all in preparation for LN and the rest of the season. The issues was fixed and BO defense has been stout ever since. Funny thing with the BO LFL game in St Louis, before the game the head referee was chatting with the clock operators and administration from LFL and Cardinal Ritter. A word came up about turbo clock, the ref said we will talk about that if it came close to happening but he didn't expect that to be the case. I was sitting next to them in the press box and laughed. During half time that discussion happened. They didn't expect once again for BO to turbo clock one of the STL "super private" teams. Well, they did, again.

They weren't "stout" against Bowling Green. I'd call it serviceable. Certainly leaky in the first half. Blair Oaks won that game on offense outscoring Bowling Green with both numbers and quality in those numbers. Bowling Green exposed special teams weaknesses, both on returns and 2pt conversions. If Bowling Green was as deep as Blair Oaks it would have been a nail biter.

All that being said I think y'all do much of the same things this weekend and pull away in the 2nd half.

Leaky in the first half, I will give you that. Adjustments were made as well as players getting tired and containment improved. Special teams was just bad on containment period

Seen many very good Lamar teams over the years, this Lamar team and kids play very good as a team and they have the best defense and are the most physical kids I have seen all year. My gut tells me if Lamar plays thier game they will win this one by a few. BO will not have seen a team this physical all year.
And Lamar has not seen a offense like BO. This one is going to be a good one.

They play in the Big 8 they have seen it all.
Looking at what Reeds who is like the 5th best team in the Big 8 did to Osage and Boonville who BO played this year I just think Lamar is the better team.
Which team in the Big 8 threw the ball the best this year? Any?

Nobody against Lamar

My gut says BO is better than Lamar. Like 14 points better. If Lamar didn't have the history they have they'd be looked at as much more of an underdog. Ultimately it really comes down to how impressive are the BO wins against teams like Lutheran North and Bowling Green. Other than those two games, I don't think BO has played much more of a difficult schedule than Lamar. It's so hard for me to imagine Lamar being an underdog that I'm even starting to convince myself they aren't while I'm typing a post that says they are!

TL;DR - I think Blair Oaks beats Lamar by 10-14, but this is the best matchup we could possibly get in C2.

It's just a an observation...wondering if who you play may make you look really good on paper.
I see. So Lamar playing in the tougher Big 8 but having a cakewalk to the final trumps Blair Oaks playing in the weaker Tri-County yet taking out 2 of the top 6 teams with one of those taking out another in the top 6 on their way there? Logical.

In general?
I would say it would be Reeds Spring, but as mentioned before Lamar didn't play them. I believe Mt Vernon has a good passing game as well. Lamar is not going to be dumbfounded by the pass. They've seen the style BO plays many times before. They'll be ready schematically, it'll come down to the athletes.

I didn't realize BO was only a passing team. They are balanced. They come at you in many ways. And no Lamar has not seen a offense not even close to what BO will present. Likewise BO hasn't seen a defense like Lamar. You are right it will come down to athletes...I am sure they both have a stable of them. It will come down to depth and who can keep fresh legs on both sides of the ball.

I didn't say they were going to be dumbfounded by the pass, nor that they won't understand the schemes. But not having to defend a decent passing game all year, then playing a team like BO, can be a problem. So can defending RPO's. So can defending veer option. So can defending Single wing or any other extreme running offense that is well executed. And no, I don't believe that playing in the world-renowned center of the football universe, the Big 8 conference, prepares them for everything.

Never said anything about logic Cards, it is just my gut feeling or observation on how I think the game will go. No need to take it so personal. I could be very wrong come on you have your opinion and I have mine.

Lost to Nevada, Seneca, and It's pretty well accepted that Lamar is better than Reeds. At best Reeds is the 4th best team in the conference. Struggled in districts with a bad cassville team. 5th best isn't a stretch.

This is what is so awesome about this matchup! It can be argued for days about who the better team is, and no one be wrong. Two great perennial powerhouses facing off for all the marbles. On the 10th anniversary of their last epic matchup, no less!

I remember that game in 2012 like it was yesterday. It was my first trip to the dome, hadn't made the trip the year before. Most of us in the stands were pretty high on our team to repeat and were kind of oblivious to the fact that it would even be a game. For pre-game the falcons came out in just warm-up shirts and helmets waste up, no pads or jerseys. I remember thinking and commenting on how small they looked and particularly plain size wise. We were really big that year on both fronts, and I thought we would dominate the LOS. It didn't take long after kickoff to realize we were going to have our hands full. They were excellent fundamentally and played together as a team. I think maybe we were down at halftime, and everyone was pretty worried. The seesaw battle continued into the second half until late in the fourth when Cedric Gartman was able to get two pick-sixes and secure the win. I don't think without that game we would have gone on to win 7 straight. They sure got our attention. I believe it fueled the teams the next few years to never underestimate an opponent, and take care of every manageable detail.

I haven't studied BO. I don't need to. I know they will be thoroughly prepared, extremely well coached, superbly conditioned, and have great athletes on both sides of the ball. But guess what? The same can be said for Lamar. Gosh dang this is gonna be a fun one!

Reminds me of when I watched Lamar beat a team in Springfield with vastly superior "athletes" a few years ago. Boys from Lamar were knocking snotbubbles out of them.
That's right. That's what that fast runnin and high jumpin will get ya.

This should be the best game of all the state games. BO will be the best offense that Lamar has seen. Lamar will be the best defense that BO has seen. I don't think that BO will have seen the physical play that they will see Friday. I'm going to take Lamars defense as I think Lamars offense will control the clock. I don't think BO defense will give up a bunch of big plays, but I don't think they will stop Lamar from getting their 3-5 yards per run. I first thought this would be high scoring, but the more I think about it I think Lamar will eat up some clock. I think it's going to come down to which defense is able to get a few stops or a turnover.

I would agree after watching them all play. Reeds is probably the 4th best in the Big 8 this year behind Lamar, Seneca and Nevada. It would be hard to put them any higher than that.

QB from Trinity kept coming back on the field , don't know these days he would have been allowed to play after some of the hits he took. Young man had no quit in him
What was the score?
That was the “Trinity is for real” year.

Can’t wait for this matchup. It’s got all the fixings of being an instant classic. Good luck to both teams. They both earned their right to be playing in December.

If I was a betting man, I’m putting my money on the player with the most yards in MSHSAA history wanting to will his team to a win in his senior season.

Could very well be. Will be a good one.
