The Sticks of Missouri
I'm still chomping at the bit for C1 & C2 Hoops to get started, so lets talk 8 man football playoffs. 23 bracketed teams will pursue the title which will be contested on November 24th at Faurot Field in Columbia at 2 PM.

Will Stanberry run the table and return to the top? Will Worth County repeat with a revenge victory in district play against Stanberry? Will upstart Pattonsburg break through after a solid run to end the regular season or will Mound City put the 275 back on the map and go undefeated after being largely untested this season? Or will we see a sleeper from outside of NW Missouri?

I went with a newbie (Pattonsburg). This class is about as wide open as the other (11-man) Class 1.

I pick Stanberry. But you can almost guarantee a GRC team will be in the championship. Last time the 8-man championship featured a team not currently in the GRC was 1992.

Hoops, MSHSAA (and thus, you) have that 1976 Princeton/Midway score wrong. Midway won 21-14 on a touchdown with 38 seconds left. I was there (I was young then) to cover the game. 18 degrees at kickoff on the Tuesday after the Saturday when the game was supposed to have been played. Princeton got 10" of snow the afternoon and night before the game (Cass County got almost none), and at least half of Princeton's team couldn't get to town to meet the bus.

Don't any of y'all make any snarky age comments, now.

I changed. Why does MSHSAA have it wrong, I wonder.

Don't know. I am going to send Jason an email today or Sunday.

I voted Mound City, but it could be any of the top 4 teams. MC has some great skill players and they will have the easiest path to the title game, so may be healthier than the other teams. They also have very good skill players and very few common opponents.

As far as strength of schedule and head to head, Stanberry is definitely the favorite overall, or should be. They have a super solid backfield that's very experienced. Worth County has great size, but struggled against the pass offense of Pattonsburg. Could Pattonsburg make the appropriate adjustments to get past stanberry in a matchup, or would worth county be able to counter the first matchup? Should be fun.

I see 4 people voted for Orrick...was there a fluke week where St. Joseph Christian beat them?
They are one dimensional. If you can stop the run, you can beat them. Of course, it is easier said than done. Both their losses were by two points. However, they haven’t faced Mound City. And if they do happen to get past them, they will have Stanberry or Pattonsburg who have the two most explosive offenses. I think those two are at a level above everyone else.

According to Cal Prep rankings, there were only two upsets the entire season.

SJC over Orrick
NHC over North Shelby
